I dont think ebay gift has something to do with Manufactures warranty.. correct me if I am wrong.. anyways If at all there's any defect you can directly take the product to the service center, they will check the code present on the HDD and get it through

Normally the stuff as gift doesn't have any warranty but this HDD came with a VAT paid bill,so IMHO you can claim warranty.
