So i just got my first pay from freelancing, and thinking to build a better PC than my current setup. Would love to have the community's suggestion over this.

What am i using right now?
It's a old Dell laptop with i3 6006u and 8GB RAM (already upgraded) and SSD. I also have a mini pc with celeron j4105 but that mostly get used for media consumption.
both running linux (i use arch btw)

What am i planning to get?
I've found some deals in this forum itself so right now I'm planning i5 4440 for CPU, and 2060 for GPU.
The cpu, mobo and ram (16GB ddr3) coming around to be 3.5k and I'm still not sure how much the gpu gonna cost (estimated 9k for it tho). 500GB ssd, 450W psu, Case not sure but 2k for it.

This will be mostly used for development and gaming. I might dip my hands in Machine Learning, my current setup gasps just by hearing this word.
For gaming, i am not sure to be honest, i haven't played much newer games as my pc didn't allow, only minecraft. so would like to play Spider man 2,forza horizon 5, Detroit become human ( i really wanna play it), elden ring, cyberpunk probably?
Being a first year student, this is all i have so budget is quite strict.
I've been lurking here since years, this is my first post, so just wanna say Thank you :D

Oops, I'm sorry for that.

Questions

  1. What is your budget?
    • 20k (excl Monitor, KB and Mouse)
  2. What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • PC-1 (Dell Laptop)
    • CPU - i3 6006u
    • Motherboard - NA
    • GPU - Intel HD 520
    • RAM - 2400 Mhz 8GB (Dual Channel)
    • Monitor - Inbuilt (it sucks)
    • PSU - NA
    • PC-2 (Dell Mini PC)
    • CPU - Celeron j4105
    • Motherboard - NA
    • GPU - Intel HD 600 (not sure)
    • RAM - 2400 Mhz 8GB (Dual Channel)
    • Monitor - Hyundai TV
    • PSU - NA
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Will keep both pc
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • CPU - Intel i5 4440
    • Motherboard - intel DH87MC
    • GPU - RTX2060 or around that (3060 if i manage to find deal)
    • PSU - Ant VS450L
    • RAM - 1333Mhz 16GB
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    • Not Sure about it.
    • Probably better CPU on same mobo.
  6. Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
    • Indore
    • Open to online purchase
  7. What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
    • Gaming
    • Development (I'm student so not a definitive answer, might try AI/ML)
  8. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
    • No bias, beggars can't be choosers : P
  9. If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
    • Minecraft my fav
    • other than that detroit become humane, cyberpunk, spiderman 2, will explore more.
  10. What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
    1. It's a 40Inch TV, 1366x758 reso. Pixel density is low but it's all i have rn, will save for 1080p monitor in future.
  11. Are you looking to overclock?
    • Depending on the setup i get, and if there is headroom.
  12. Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    • Preferably Windows 11(with hardware bypass)

See if you can source an i7 2700 (non-K) or 3770. The extra threads would be better suited for your use case, especially given the lower resolution. A 2700/3700 (non-K) combo with an (okayish) mobo with 16 GB (look for 2x8) DDR3 shouldn't set you back more than 6- 7 K.

PSU - even for such a budget build, do NOT even consider any PSU under the ANT eSports banner, especially the VS series. Those are absolute garbage. Get something like a CM MWE 450 V2 for around 3 K

GPU - with games such as Cyberpunk on your list, I would avoid a 6 GB card like the 2060. If you change to a 1080p monitor, you'll face issues. For around 10-11K, get something like a 2060S.

Total would be around 20- 21 K.

Cheers.

I would strongly advise you to avoid that old cpu and platform. Spend some more and you can get am4 combo (b450+r51600) at around 5-6k even if you have to downgrade your gpu.

That is actually ideal, maybe snag a used RX580 8GB for 6k

That looks better choice, I'll also get access to ddr4 then, How hard is it to find 1600+b450 for that much? do they normally go for this much

A used 1600 should be around 3-3.5k, a basic used b450, maybe 4k or so. Last year, I sold my 1600 (launch 2017 sample sent to me by AMD) for around 3k to a friend
