Hi All,

We know that Cable Amendment Act is going to applicable from 30th June, 2012 in four metros viz Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai & Kolkata.

I am currently using normal cable from nearby cable-wallah. So he said you need to buy a STB from us & monthly rent will be same i.e. 150rs pm & new STB cost will cost me around 1000 - 1200rs.
Also he said, number of channels & clarity will be increased.

I think that instead of going for STB of normal cable-wallah, it should be better to opt for regular cable providers like DishTV, TataSky, Sun Direct etc etc.

Please let me know which Cable Operator is Cheap & Best and provides good no. of channels to watch in their cheapest plan.
I don't want HD ones, as i have CRT TV.
Any on going offers of cash-back & free subscription will be welcomed.

I have shortlisted few cheapest ones:
1. Sun Direct
2. Videocon DTH
3. Tata Sky(cheapest plans as per their latest ads)

Location: West Delhi.

PS: I have earlier used Airtel IPTV services as i am using Airtel BB, but stopping IPTV due to some money crunch.

I would suggest to go for STB from your cable guy only. You will get almost all the channels at cheapest price. When in future, you upgrade to LED/LCD, you can purchase digital box from Tatasky, etc

Also you should negotiate with cable guy. The price of STB is around 500-600 only.

go for Videocond2h .
You get the SD box with 1 month Diamond pack subcription about 1500. Also their Diamond pack have all channels including the new Sony SIX :) just under 300rs.
And you can pay online by Credit/Debit card and Net banking of alll banks

^ i bet he's getting Sony Six in that 150 rupees he's currently paying to the cable guy. I think best option for him would be to stay with his cable operator since every dth provider will cost around 300+ bucks a month for all hindi and english channels.

If you are not watching HD channels, stay with your local cable. The STB will unlock all the channels for a lower price than you would be paying for any DTH connection.

You should get the STB for 1000/- anything above that is the extra the cable walla is charging. I have seen the 500 - 600/- STB conking off. Now those STB's have been discontinued and the ones available are only the ones that cost 1000/-

If you are OK with spending 300+ /- per month you can choose any DTH provider.
P.S. Hathway provides nearly 150 channels via the STB. Monthly rates may vary according to the area you live in.
Also P.S. IMO there is nothing cheap and best. Its either cheap or best :)

150 bucks is a steal.....stay with your cable wallah....

if you go for DTH you will be forking out approx. 1200-1500 for the STB + installation charges (in case you need longer wiring than the default) + atleast 300 rs. per month. simple math

I think the no. of channels you will get in 150 Rs. from your cable wallah will be more than those in Rs. 300 pack of any DTH.

In my quest of finding a good HD DTH service provider, I have noticed that all packs of <Rs. 300 have hardly any English channels (almost none) and no "Ten" & "Neo" channels.

I too vote for cablewallah. They will give almost all the channels (no bouquet, hindi pack, south indian pack and such crap) and you will get additionally their own movie channels.

I also have connection from cablewallah who has provied Humex digital box some 3 years back. Quality is amazing. Best part is that it does not cost fortune and still I get almost all channels at very reasonable rate.
Does anyone has any idea when will Hathway start providing HD Recorder and what will be charges?

31st May, 2012

I guess 30th June 2012.

My LCO(from SitiCable) first took Rs.400/- from us for STB at April and then next month at May took more Rs.200/-.
Told STB got expensive due to high demand.
But,still they did not provide us STB. :(
I'm not going to pay any more money unlit they give STB.....

Ahem guys.. Its cable Wala and not Wallah.. :)

@ OP
As everybody has mentioned already, stick with the local provider.
The STB i been provided with costs 1100, and out of that 1k is refundable w.e i choose to ditch it. For monthly charge of 200 i have nearly all the channels coming into my house and is a cracker of a deal.

Thanks guys for the valuable input.
Apart from cable-wala i have one more option of going back to Airtel IPTV services as I have their STB & remote.
Need to choose from 2 plans, 1099 or 1199rs + taxes.

I found their TSTV(Time Shift TV) very good in that. U can access last 7 days of material anytime.

Considering 2Mbps 10gb internet in that, don't you guys think its good ???

i too am in the same dilemma. i mainly want to watch football matches and movies for my sis.. when will they start giving out these STBs?

If you do not need HD channels, stay with your cable operator without a thought. Yes, the STBs will be sluggish and the remotes will be crappy, but you'll get to enjoy all channels @ 150 whereas the same would cost around INR 400 via DTH.
Even for HD channels, the local cablewalah is your best bet. In Kolkata, Manthan(MSO) has 16 HD channels(CAS zone) at Rs.5 per channel and 3 HD channels(including Movies Now HD) for free on non-CAS areas if you opt for their HD boxes which they sell for some INR 5k(no recording facility).

@ssdvisiongermany1933 whats the cost differential?

i am sticking with local cable provider for bedrooms - 500/- STB and only 150/- a month for unlimited connections ( need to pay 500/- for each STB but no monthly )

for hd i am planning to switch from the current tata sky plus ( non hd) to a dth provider

My TV requirements are almost negligible ,So opted for supergold pack which costs around Rs 180 ,maximum 1 or 2 hrs daily and it has all channel which I need and also service from local cable is also not that good

I heard that Cable Amendment Law is getting stay order for next two months, so we can save few bucks by continuing with normal Cable-wallahs !!

Actually Cable-wallahs wants 'Cable Amendment Law' get stay forever.
Don't know good for us or Cable-wallahs or our Govt ???.....
