Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Discussion Thread

Re: Activision confirms next Call of Duty for 2012!

I think that they should not release any COD game for atleast 2 years.In the time being make a better game engine(with DX11 for pc), bigger and better SP storyline and gameplay and make the MP better.

In the next 2 years from now, i think even DX 12 may come out :p

The games was confirmed by Activision on February 9,2012 During its 4th quarter early calls.

This year, we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all new epic first person shooter title under the Call of Duty Brand.

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]From what we've seen the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovation to the franchise. I could not be more excited[/font]

Rumors are that it would be a prequel to the Black Ops game and also that the COD: Elite 2.0 will be released at the same time.

I'm inclined to agree with the majority sentiment regarding CoD... the name has become iconic and to be sure the creators are really raking in the big bucks, but that's no excuse for releasing games where the action is so arcade............ There is a plethora of real-world engagements that they could be modelling the in-game experience around, so why stick to the same old mid-east/central europe criminal/counter-terror themes that have dogged the franchise in recent times??

CoD can be so much better, and the fans deserve a little more bang for those big bucks...... (imo)

Indeed. It takes a minimum of two years to develop a new engine. If they had one, we surely would have seen trailers, previews or at least screenshots, as dictated by the laws of marketing hype. So no, I think we will see the beautiful Quake 2 engine next year also.

Didn't look it up but I am pretty sure they have not been using the Q2 engine since COD4

^^ From the wiki:

The engine was first used for Call of Duty 2 in 2005 under a proprietary license of id Tech 3 created by id Software in 1999, as at this time, the engine was a heavily modified version of the Quake III engine. The engine did not have an official name until IGN was told at the E3 2009 by the studio that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would run on the "IW 4.0 engine".[sup][1][/sup]

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released using version 3.0 of the engine. Treyarch began using an enhanced version of the IW 3.0 engine for Call of Duty: World at War.[sup][2][/sup] Treyarch, however, then modified the engine for their James Bond title, Quantum of Solace.[sup][3][/sup]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released using the IW 4.0 engine, the only game to do so. The IW 4.0 engine featured texture streaming technology to create much higher environmental detail. Treyarch then further modified the IW 3.0 engine for Call of Duty: Black Ops. The engine was also modified by Eurocom in a different way for the GoldenEye remake. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 utilizes the IW 5.0 engine, the fifth iteration of the engine and an improved version of the IW 4.0 engine.[sup][4][/sup] Improvements on the engine allow better streaming technology which allows larger regions for the game while running at a minimum of 60 frames per second and improvements to the audio of the engine have also been made.

It was a modified Quake III engine, not Quake II, but it's still the same engine. With more iterations. But seriously, one does not need to quote the wiki to prove this.

Which Date is true?

black-ops-2-logo.jpg

Just a few days ago Activision told us that Black Ops 2 is coming and then they leakedmultiplayer modes info. According to image below, a reveal trailer is likely to occur on April 28, 2012. Though this is just a rumor and Activision has neither confirmed or denied the validity of this leak, it should be noted April 28 was the reveal date for the original Call of Duty Black Ops game in 2010.

THE next Call of Duty video game will be announced in May, according to a "leaked" poster.

Gaming website Kotaku posted an photo they believe to be a poster advertising the "reveal date" of Black Ops 2 - the sequel to the popular 2010 first-person shooter.
[/font]

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]
The photo - which advertises the date “05. 02. 2012†and the words “Return For Debriefing†- was forwarded to them by a retail source, Kotaku wrote.

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]
The website suggests the words on the poster refer to the debriefing featured in the first Black Ops Game, where players went on missions to uncover a secret conspiracy.

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]
Kotaku believes the date will be a reveal rather than a launch, as Call of Duty games have traditionally come out at the end of the year in time for Christmas.

Earlier this year a screenshot promoting Black Ops 2 was posted on Amazon France briefly, saying developers Treyarch will be offering the game for €69.99 ($89) and will be released in 2012.
