Gaganyaan uncrewed mission scheduled for Oct-23. Things are really getting heated up !!
I was wondering sometime back as to why ISRO has gone quiet with these scientific missions since Chandrayaan 2. But they are making up for it.

Most space missions are planned years ahead already.
It's just that sometimes technical delays or sometimes a failure of precious missions may lower the confidence to set out for something risky immediately.

Chandrayaan-3 has boosted the confidence level even further and to add Aditya L1 is on its way to achieve its objective.

ISRO is now not feeling pressured ( that Chandrayaan-3 lifted the spirit of entire nation) so they going ahead quickly with their planned missions.

If we compare to China and Russia. We still have many standard space missions objectives remaining to achieve. Chinese are all set out to land on Moon by this decade.

We have to aim atleast by next decade so say 2035 ...if Chinese are doing by 2030.

The real long term competition will be from the likes of spaceX and blue origin. Govt funded showcases (e.g. Chinese, Russian Indian programs) will remain hobbled by the politics of the day.

India, which has a decent private sector, might have a slight advantage provided some of our big business houses (yes, that means Adani and Ambani) start to share the responsibility. However, competing for talent with spaceX will be hard.

This is such an awfully written article. The main points have been made in paragraphs that start with 'Reportedly...'. And it ends with the writer editorializing about motivation. Why inflict this trash on everyone?

TLDR: The govt changed the pay structure and a low level journalist was asked to convert it into 'Breaking mega super news'.

BTW like everything else, USA is decades ahead in space race. No one is going to reach their prowess anytime soon.

So according to you a giant statue will make everyone feel motivated and united, whereas a "low level journalist" covering a pay cut following a failed mission is not worthy of news. Spoken like a true B.

Ask yourself this: why didn't a "high level" journo cover this point? If not in 2019, why not now when the whole world is talking about what ISRO did? You don't think they should be rewarded for their years of hardwork? Or do you prefer they be commemorated by building a statue on the moon?

For further reading, here's another article that includes the petition by ISRO employees themselves. Don't judge based on who wrote the article, judge based on facts alone. And the fact is someone just likes to hog all the lime light for himself, national pride be damned.

I tried my best to keep silent. I am politically neutral but can't resist saying this

That is not some bystander who hopped into the camera frame

1. The Prime Minister of India - democratically elected leader of 140 crore people
2. Elected representative from Varanasi - ~20 lakh voters
3. He was elected by the people directly, not through Rajya Sabha or nominated by the President
4. IIRC, enjoys an absolute majority in both houses of the parliament

True. It's his job to run the country and facilitate all departments, not give a live reaction video from a different continent. The post landing address was perfect for him to talk at length, in person. Not occupying half the frame on a live stream while the entire nation, and most of the world were watching a scientific achievement. The director of ISRO barely got a word in about the mission. His silence speaks volumes.

Same thing happened during Aero India. Also why is no one talking about how he allowed US Navy jets to be used in a banner that said Make In India? The reason is simple: he cares more about his own publicity. Understandable for a politician, but his facetime is longer than actual content.

Also just because someone was democratically elected doesn't mean they are above reproach - to be answerable to the citizens and serve the nation's need is the essence of democracy.

In other space news - Japan's SLIM mission is attempting precision landing on the Moon, their payload is much lighter than ours and is taking a more energy efficient way to reach the moon, hence we'll have to wait for while, but it should be very interesting. We had a target area of 500m x 500m during Chandrayaan 2, but couldn't make it. They are trying a target area of 100m.

Whenever I see someone, usually a bhakt or ''''centrist'''' or ''''neutral'''' defending poor Prime Minister because he's democratically elected, I wonder if these people know limitations of First Past The Post voting. Or if they know Adolf Hitler was also democratically elected.
