Chrome to Edge

I'll tell you why I call it a scam, firefox paints itself as the last hope for humanity, "muh privacy" also google as default, your donation does not go to the development of the browser itself, but to the lavish lifestyles of the CEO and other random e-celebs. Read the article I linked. https://lunduke.locals.com/post/4387539/firefox-money-investigating-the-bizarre-finances-of-mozilla

because, its a poisoned choice and people should know about it. some firefox users think they are doing humanity a service by using this amazing web browser which at best performs on par with chrome.
Not sure why you would construe someone using Firefox as serving humanity or however else you would like to stereotype Firefox users. It is a choice and as of now it plays a part in not having a complete Googlised web. The fact that many websites work better on Chromium is mainly because developers take the easy way out but Mozilla is at least supporting initiatives that keep the standards alive and ensure that Google doesn't completely decide how the web should work.

The Manifest v3 adoption by almost all Chromium browsers also indicates the power of Google. Unfortunately, all the free mainstream Chromium alternatives are mostly relying on data harvesting for revenue. Google pays Mozilla foundation to keep competition alive in theory and to avoid anti-trust lawsuits. Mozilla foundation has not covered itself in glory over the years. However, the fact that it is a foundation ensures the transparency you can easily see what they are doing wrong and criticize them, unlike the opaqueness of Big Tech. Also, Mozilla is not Firefox with its myriad community projects.

Personally, I use it across devices because it works for 99.9% of what I do, I like the cross-platform support, extensions that are not gimped and also work on Android. I have no qualms using Edge but just haven't liked the direction Microsoft has taken to monetize it. Chrome is still a massive resource hog. Brave has been extremely shady with their practices and Opera is under Chinese ownership. You can use whatever works for you but it is always good to have options.

I'm curious to know if any of you who were heavy Chrome users have recently made the switch to Microsoft Edge. If so, how has your experience been with the transition? I'm interested in hearing about the pros and cons you've encountered – anything from speed and compatibility to specific features that stood out (or maybe didn't).
I switched to edge for my work pc, and I can say I find it better than chrome. The problem is edge has so many bloat things enabled by default, if I turn off everything, it looks fine.

You can remove bing as default search engine and set to google, also you can make the bottom search bar also point to google, the only thing I can't remove is this copilot button but it's okay I never use it.

I kind of like it now, because I have one less app to install, the chrome and it being running in background. Edge also runs in background but now there is one less app.

I feel like edge has more optimzations than chrome, something about it feels smoother than chrome.

I had to make microsoft account and log in to save all my browser settings, so I don't have to do it again and again, but a lot of things need to be turned off, good thing is they have toggle buttons for them.

Once in a while there is certain news or weather type bar shows up in new tab page, which I can disable, it only happened once.

Other thing edge asked me once or twice to set bing as default search engine which I ignored.

That's all the nagging it does.

It just feels better that it has integration with the windows defender so all things are like coupled and glued together, which you don't feel in chrome.

The performance is snappy, it's in no way slower than chrome. In fact you will feel that it fires up faster than chrome, something about it being pre-loaded, always in ready state to be executed.

Any video playing in the browser can be popped out of edge, and it is resizeable and always stays on top of everything you are doing. I didn't have to install any extension for this, it is native. I hate extensions, the less the better.

Only extension I added is adblock.

Passwords are a issue now, I have passwords in chrome, edge offers me to import all the passwords, but there is no way to maintain a sync between the two automatically, the only way I think it's possible is through a third party password manager which has extension on both the edge and chrome.

If you want to try edge, make an account, log in, in edge settings turn off everything, even turn off the things you don't understand, and turn on all the things regarding security, after you have done making it look and work the way you want, do one forced sync with your account, now check if everything stayed the same, if not change it to your setting.

and you are done.
