Will be joining my PGDBM course soon and will require a laptop for it. Need a machine which meets the following criteria:

1. Light weight

2. Portable

3. Good screen quality

4. Good battery life

5. Webcam

6. If it will be able to play TF2 then its an added advantage. Lol.

7. Should be VFM.

8. All the usual Wifi, Card readers, USB ports, etc should be there.

Budget: Around 50-60k I guess. The lesser the better :P

I am really out of touch with the hardware scene and need help. Thanks in advance.

How good is the ATI 3450 card on the Dell Studio 14" and does the WLED screen really make a difference?

performance wise slightly weaker or equal to 8400gs, It should be able to play TF2 and source with medium/low settings, since I have played TF2 and CSS with a 8400gs that too on 22" screen with good fps.. :P resolution 900x600, all settings at low, FPS was constant and very good > 60 ( assuming, didn't check)

How is the HP DV5 with 9600M GT GPU? Any idea about its price?

and

How is 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 9500M-GE with Hybrid SLI®? This one comes in the Dell XPS 13".

^^Even I am inclined to Dell because of their on-site warranty. My college campus is real far off from the city and if I get on-site warranty it will be great as I will be in the hostel.

Was the 8400GS that you talked about the desktop version or a laptop version???(I didn't understand if you meant you played the game on a desktop or on a laptop as I have heard of very few laptops having a 22inch screen)

If you are speaking about the desktop version of the card then you are making a big mistake since laptop graphics are much weaker than their desktop counterparts.

Check this benchmark list: Notebookcheck: Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List

It is a pretty good list which compares different laptop graphics.

Thanks for the link. That link shows the ATI 3670 to be better than the ATI 4570 though :S

Studio 14 = ATI 3450 = Very low gpu performance

Studio 15 = ATI 4570 = Decent performance I guess.

Btw, anyone has any idea about these,

1. Does a 9 cell battery weigh more than a 6 cell one?

2. How much does the weight difference between a 14.1" lappy and 15.6" one come out to be?

Why isn't there even one decent portable laptop with a decent gpu? :@

there is a HP model around 47k which has AMD and Ati 4650...i think its 16` and it has numpad...lol. :).It selling in croma.

I think it is common sense that a 9 cell thing will weigh more than a 6 cell one.

But I have no idea about the weight difference between the batteries.

Yea you can try the above one. It's named dv6 1110ax if I'm not wrong. And because of the far better card it should run games better than studio 15 (though the processor can be a spoil sport).

Also Mohit, please change your avatar. It makes it hard to go to the next post :ashamed::)
