Atlast finished this giant game

still some side quests are left.:-[ and some areas unexplored.

I always had some kind of dislike towards this genre. But two games successfully forced me to change my likings.
I still don't prefer rpgs much but of its something similar to oblivion and fallout 3.Then i will think twice.
(Though i have not completed the later.)

in short how this game is.

1.The story has nothing much to offer. But the quests are quite good.
2.Though some quests are repetitive (main story). But still fun.
3.Brilliant music.
4.Impressive ai and gameplay.
5.Tremendous flexibility.can do many things.
6.Impressive scenery.
7.Huge world.even san andreas will be put to shame.
8.some side quests are interesting.
9.brilliant voice acting.

Took me more than a month i would say in total to finish this game's main storyline with few side quests which you cannot ignore.

Oblivion lovers have to agree with me.:D

One of the best side mission was vampire cure. (Towards the end of the main mission i realized that i have become a vampire:devil2:) i still remember how i had to suffer in this quest.

This alone quest took me around 10 hours(by that time i would have completed dog days and mw2 :D) i think to get completed. But nevertheless it was fun.

IN all this game is quite impressive.Or outstanding!

Oblivion is one of the shallow RPG's i have played

If you wish to play some great PC RPG games, try the following ( based on what I have played)

Star Wars: KOTOR 1 & 2

Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2

WITCHER

Dragon Age

Mass Effect 1

Risen

Gothic 3

Fallout 3

Fable : Lost chapters

maybe for you.:) But i loved the beautiful scenery with the matching music.Yeah the story has not much to offer. But still overall i liked it.

as i have already told i still dislike rpgs. But few exception titles are there which attracts me.
like i have played mass effect 2 demo.and it was awesome!i can say it even didnt felt like a rpg.
i even liked fallout 3 a bit.
This was my first rpg game completion
if i next play any other rpg then that would be either the mass effect series or fallout3.
actually i didint liked the hud of dragon age origins.

Anyways thanks for the list.:)

The only RPG i used to enjoy was Pokémon and is Mass Effect now ^^, tried playing morrowwind (is the name correct?) and didnt like it, this was 2 years back.

^^i think morrowind is its ancestor.Sorry i also have no idea.
Actually i tried mass effect 2 demo. and i feel it was also prodigious! never seen such a fast paced rpg lol.

One of the very major plus point you missed about oblivion (PC version of course) is its modding support. There are mods for everything ranging from new quests, companions, weapons, clothes (or lack of clothes :P) to even graphics improvement. If you think stock Oblivion looks good, just try one of the uber texture packs that are available for the game and see the difference. It puts many newer games to shame.

As for Mass Effect, Mass Effect 1 is an RPG. Mass Effect 2 is less RPG and more of a shooter with character development thrown in. However they made sure that that the upgrades play a pivotal role in the outcomes in the later part of the game.

Oblivion has cool mods And thoese mod are very well implemented by gamers.I played almost all the side missions first and then completed the main game.It had one of the largest game world but after sometime u get bored of exploring every where and savage items cause it should have been a little less enormous and developers put variety of gears, cloths, weapons and items. On the top of it u can have more than thousand custom tailored spells having different elemental damages. This was the game which i spent most of my time other than (fifa series & CS).But dont have the courage to replay again altogether

How the hell I missed :ashamed: . Its right up at the top in my list. Thanks for pointing out

Hell no one mentioned The Witcher ? It'll butcher all the other games. If you liked Oblivion, try Witcher. Its even better.

Absolutely agree with you.

KOTOR 1 & 2 still remain my favourite RPGs of all time.

Oblivion is excellent in terms of expansiveness, and Dragon Age is very very cool too albeit a bit repetitive.

Best RPGs imo :

Baldur's Gate 2 ---------------------------------- 10/10

Icewind Dale 1/2 -------------------------------- 8/10

Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 --------------10/10

Neverwinter Nights oc, underdark --------------9/10

Neverwinter Nights 2 ----------------------------8/10

Witcher -------------------------------------------8/10

Dragon Age --------------------------------------9/10

Mass Effect 2-------------------------------------9/10

Although both oblivion and fallout 3 are very popular I cannot seem to get over the flaws in them (some of which i guess can be overcome with mods).

-gamebryo, the engine bethesda uses gives a very awkward model animation [npc's seem to glid across the floor]

-faces are typically very drab and expressionless compared to modern games, and generally look quite ugly

-although the game is advertised to be huge everything feels the same : as if the same generic places have been copy-pasted over and over

-the voice acting is good only if you consider the few lines done by celebrity actors; aside from that it's really badly done.

-particularly in fallout 3 the combat/VATS mechanic isnt well done; it tries to be a shooter; but isnt really good at it

-the combat in oblivion also feels similarly repetitive

-the world/lore/story isn't very well narrated and there are (particularly in fallout 3) lots of lapses in the logic.

^^As i had already mentioned.yes its a bit repetitive.closing those oblivion gates again and again really gets a bit tiresome. but nevertheless its fun when you get along with it.

the bad things apart from the technical point of view are 1.Those lockpicking system.I really hated those.but i think when you join the thieves guild.you can easily enter any house.though not tested in all i have tested this only in imperial city.
2. making magic potions.they are really tiresome if proper ingredients are not selected.
3.majority of the places have forts and caves but incide some of them you can really find some cool stuff.

I have played the witcher.what i didnt liked there was it has same type of interactions which dragon age origins have.and the camera angle was also a bit different.

u knw there are 2 expansions right or was it 3.

theres knights of the nine and shivering isles to add another few hrs to the experience.

I usually love RPG, but Baldur's gate 2 overwhelmed me, it was too damn difficult to get used too...

Neverwinter night series was awesome though..

Nobody mentioned Planescape Torment... It deserves to be there on any top rpg list :)

I hope you tried the enhanced edition of Witcher and you do realize that it came before DAO.ie, DAO ought to do it better than Witcher. Im a DAO fan myself and I think of it as hollywood-ized rpg where you find everything done right in the past in right proportions. Of course, the repetitive nature of the game comes as a side effect of its lengthy main quest-line.

Did you finish the vanilla version? Im asking because I never could get past level 6 with my barbarian- Every single average monster kicked my ass all over the place:D

Star Wars: KOTOR 1 & 2 This was one of the best games i have ever played and specially KOTOR 1

WITCHER looking forward to Witcher 2

Mass Effect 1 & 2

Fallout 3

Fable : Lost chapters

KOTOR is brilliant. And so is Planescape: Torment if you are willing to put up with a lot of reading.
But NWN is mind-numbingly boring imo.
