Hey!

Well, I've read through quite a few articles here and even online to help me decide, but I honestly can't make up my mind.

What's the problem? - Which one should I pick up? X360 Arcade or the PS3 40GB?

I went to Croma earlier today to check it out. I looked at HD Playback cause I've got an LG 32" HD Ready (Read: 720p) tele.

Now, aside from the obvious price difference, I can't make up my mind.

I know we have a big group of people from both fraternities, so this is where your expertise would really help.

Not sure if it's worth investing 9k extra for the Blu-Ray player considering I don't have a collection. I do intend on starting one, but maybe a year down the line.

Aside from that, I'm open to any other reasoning for the pro and con of each system and your choice.

Your inputs would be really helpful and I'd really appreciate your help fellahs.

Cheers!

It depends on whether you have a decent PC or not.

If you plan to have a decent gaming PC at all times, I would suggest you spend the extra money and go for the PS3. All XboX games will come to the PC at some time or the other. At that time, the PS3's exclusives make it a better option.

If you plan to game only on consoles the 360 should do. The extra 9k (if you want to spend it) will be spent for MGS, Little Big Planet, Team ICO's games and God of War.

well the difference isnt exactly 9k. if u consider buying a 20gb hdd for your 360, a good pair of rechargable batteries & a online subscription to play online with a 360 i think the difference is hardly anything. also u will need to spend extra for a wireless controller. not to forget the possibility of the console failing is over 50%.

also with ps3 u are getting the top model i.e the 80gb with a wireless dual shock 3 controller & a new game free (resistance 2 or motorstorm) & online play is free.

i have owned both the consoles. i would always go for the ps3.

Well, I too own both Consoles (PS3 40GB and XBOX 360 Elite) and just like stormblast, I would rate the PS3 over the 360.

I believe the X360 Arcade comes with a Wireless controller. The Core isn't available locally, so the Arcade should be around soon. Not to mention, supposedly the new Jaspers should have fixed the RROD issue, right?

Doubt I'll find an Arcade locally though, would prolly have to import it via KMD.

Don't really think the new 80GB PS3 is that appealing, I'd rather just get the 40GB, or maybe import one considering the chances of it failing are 3% or less.

^^^I own Xbox360 and believe me, there is nothing great about the console, almost all games are available on PC, live gaming needs more money, always wary about it going kaput. Though I wont say anything positive about PS3, but it sure looks more attractive at this point of time to me......

I personally feel that consoles are not that great....thats strictly my opinion....i am a big fanatic of PC Games......and when tried my hands on Console gaming i personally didnt like it that much......about whether to go for XBOX or PS3...well i personally feel.....that PS3 is certainly more appealing.... well i also...did some research before buying my console.....and that time...according to a few sites XBOX was better....but still PS3 boasts off crispier graphics and packs more punch than an XBOX, if you are planning to play it on HD........:D

If you want a Blu-ray player and don't plan on getting a stand-alone player then get a ps3. If you want simply gaming and a good multi-player option then get the x360. RROD is covered under a 3 year warranty and turn back time incase the console goes kaput is under a week. The ps3 hardly looks like a good option in these slow times and it's suffering in the international market as well due to this perception. Other than this i wouldn't suggest importing either console due to warranty issues. Given the financial health of Sony and SCE in general, i wouldn't advise on investing on a ps3 right now...........

@roman: ps3 boasting crispier graphics ? Give us a break mate......... :|

ur only giving such a biased opinion cause u own a 360. ms fanboy.

I dont know why the hugh issue with RROD. If you get it, you get a brand new console no questions asked ! If the RROD problem repeats ? Well you get a new console again !

The main positives for the Xbox 360 are

- better controller. I have used the Six Axis controller and never liked it as much as the xbox controller.

- cheaper games ! Xbox games are on an average cheaper than their PS3 counterparts. Also try getting a PS3 game < 1499 and try the same with the Xbox and see the difference !

Main negatives

- Xbox live is not free - I hate to pay everytime I want to use Xbox live. Though the experience is awesome (fast servers) it is still paid and not free.

- No bluray - Not a biggie since it is a gaming console, but still the PS3 has a dang decent bluray player.

- Less number of exclusives that remain only on the Xbox 360 - Ok so great 360 games like Mass Effect, GeOW and others all made it to the PC. So thats less value for the Xbox 360.

I have not touched my 360 Elite in the last 6~7 months where as I still find that I use my PS3. 360 is only worthwhile for those who do not have at least a low end gaming PC.

I think the 3 year RROD warranty applies only if the first RROD occurs within the first one year. The remaining two years are extended coverage for just the RROD. Also the console being replaced within a week is hardly the usual experience. First they look for all possible ways to turn down your RMA request stating all sorts of reasons like tampering (even when its not). Even if they cannot find any reason, relacement is hardly the usual solution they follow. They try to repair it whereever possible which means that there is a high chance of the console going bad again. I have heard many horror stories about the XBOX RMA in India. Even Sony has shitty after sales support in India as I have personally experienced. But the thing going for PS3 is that its chance of going bad is far less than that of a 360 going bad.

360 shares most its titles with the PC. The titles that are truly exclusive to the XBOX 360 are far inferior to the exclusives of PS3. I found Halo 3 which is considered the most popular of 360 exclusives to be pretty boring as an FPS. Even Resistance was a far better console exclusive FPS. The last throughly enjoyable game I completed on the 360 was Mass Effect.

As for graphics, while PS3 is on par or some times inferior in graphics of cross platform titles, but I found that the 360 cannot compare to the graphics of PS3 in exclusives. No exclusive on 360 can compare in graphics to the exclusives on PS3. The only conclusion I can draw from that is that PS3 is capable of better graphics than 360, but needs dedicated development to bring that out and that does not show in the usual crossplatform games where the development is focused on PC and 360 and then the same ported to PS3.

You sir are very neutral :P :ohyeah: But anyway you look at it it's a failed proposition the ps3 i.e. :bleh:

what is with this sir crap. you are elder to me btw.

2ndly my opinion was way more neutral than yours for the fact that i have owned both the consoles together. same as what lord nemesis is saying. i had not touched my 360 for 6months when i had both consoles after which i sold the 360.

just cause rrod is under warranty doesnt mean its proper & acceptable. u have to go through the trouble of rma procedure etc which isnt that great in india.

THE ONLY SANE REASON TO BUY A 360 IS IF YOU MOD IT & PLAY BACKUP GAMES.
which is what i did with my 360. games were way cheaper than what bf1983 said but still they were not good & not in the same league as the ps3 exclusives. i rather spend 2-2.5k on a game that i will thourougly enjoy rather than spend 100rs or 1500rs on a game that i force myself to play. only good game on the 360 for me was gears which i enjoyed a lot playing & which eventually came on the pc.

@bf1983 - the controller thing is just personal preference. i feel that the 360 controller is pretty much useless compared to the sixaxix / dualshock3. that is just my opinion cause i am used to that style of the controller since ps1/ps2 days.

Hahahahahhaa....mate i was just selling it....you were the one who bought it....i only told about the condition of the XBOX.....i was careful enough not to divulge my personal opinion..... heheheheheheh :P:P:P :D:D:D:D

OMG i forgot to mention 1 more advantage.

THE PS3 owns the 360 when u use it as a media server. i am using my ps3 connected to the tv & streaming movie/music/youtube etc on the tv via ps3 wirelessly. this is simply amazing & very convenient.

if u want to make your 360 wifi then u need to spend around 50$ or more to add the feature. so come to think of it. both the costs are pretty much the same.

in the end ill tell you what it comes down to.
if u like halo, gears, project gotham etc type of games then u should get the 360 blindly.

if u prefer mgs,kz2,r2,gran turismo, god of war, motorstorm, unchartered drakes, lbp etc etc then get a ps3 blindly.

Sarcasm dude :P You just don't get it :P
Let's not get with the "i have owned both the consoles" (however one was sitting eating dust cause of my bias :P) argument. The bias of the posters showed very clearly in the thread and i thought it would be good if someone put in a word for the x360. :) Besides the sales figures speak for themselves and the fact that people purchase the x360 again even after the earlier revisions had the rrod problem speaks volumes about the enjoyment on the console. As for replacement it's usually swift in the metros. As for ps3 exclusives not being in the same league it's a personal opinion and not a objective one. People will beg to differ with yours ;)

I bought a 40Gb PS3 to play MGS LBP and Killzone..after that it just sat there and collected dust, What can I say..The PS3 doesn't have huge games library like the 360. So if you're intrested in buying the cheapest blu-ray player on the market and play a few decent games then go for the PS3 otherwise its 360 it is.

The 360 is the ps2 of this generation, just look at the games library - so many great exclusive titles, all the PS3 has is MGS, Killzone and LBP,sure previous versions of the console have had major hardware problems but the new jasper model is very reliable.

Lastly games look better, play better on the 360, take any major multi-platform game..its sad but true that PS3 for all its hardware superiority on paper doesn't play games all that well.
