Secondly i've been using only johnson&johnson acuve 30 day lens for almost 5 years, and i've found them to be good. I was surprised to see the huge price difference between acuve and B&L59, which almost costs double. Any reason why B&L are expensive? I've always had problems using their Renu solution, so i never bothered about their products. Also Acuve has UV protection which B&L doesn't have. So i'm surprised as to why the B&L are expensive?

You are telling me this now, when i have placed ordered of B&L 59 lenses. Damn it :mad:

B&L is very popular brand & hence expensive.

While J&J Acuve i was never heard of, so I thought its may be of cheap quality ones, hence cheap !!!

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

Guess it all depends on the type of materials used for a particular contact.. no experience of using b&L59 so cant comment, but i started off with B&L first. Next I found Acuvue Clear much better to B&L and switched brands. Finally, have become a big fan of B&L HD..

BTW, seems B&L59> Acuvue Clear ..so you need not repent :)

@haris5sani
How can you say you haven't heard of johnson & johnson :D
@eXcesscaLIBER
That blog is inconclusive, both have their pros/cons... So i guess it's more of a personal choice. B&L solution really irritated my eyes, so don't even wanna try B&L lens.

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

nj dude, there's a world of difference between b&l solution and lenses. lenses in fact, will suit most people with the only difference being the runtime you get outta them, but solutions have very different reactions with diff people. The B&L purevisions are very good lenses, many people using them find the material extremely comfortable.

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

Can anyone confirm if the HDs come in torics? I haven't seen any such information anywhere, but my local optician says they're available. Btw he quoted Rs. 3300 for 6 pairs of HDs regular and Rs. 4400 for 6 pairs of HD torics.

@eXcesscaLIBER where in mumbai do you live mate? doesn't the dust cause any issues with extended wear? My optician also said that extended wear is very possible in cleaner [sic] countries, but here, the dust may be an issue. Anyway it depends on each person's comfort level.

@Julian
Well comfort is subjective, isn't it? Also I follow the age old adage - "If it aint't broken, don't fix it" :) I'm pretty comfy with the acuve ones :)

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

^^ But what if it's better/faster/stronger! :p

A question for everyone out there, back in the day of yearly lenses and protein removal tablets, solution was considered very expensive and was used for the rubbing and cleaning phase of lenses. Rinsing was done using saline, like right from an iv bottle. Is there any problem in doing so even today for modern lenses (i know some people use them for the extended rinsing required by hydrogen peroxide based cleaning solutions), or is it 'necessary' for the lens itself or for performance of the lens in the eye, to only use cleaning solution and not to rinse with saline.

Once, i was staying over at a friends and ran out of solution. So i used his sister's (semi?) hard lens solution and screwed my eyes. My soft lenses absorbed the solution and eyes were totally watering and burning. Rushed to the optician (this was lawrence and mayo at fort) and she just rinsed my eyes out with the ole saline bottle for 5 mins and they were fine.

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

stay @ kandivali. I avoid public transport and use A/c Car to travel. If i have to take a public transport, i prefer wearing sun glasses. with these lil precautions I guess am all right.. and even if I have had a dusty day, like i said previously; sleeping at night seems to have automatically cleaned the lenses.

@Julian: why do you need toric.. how much is your cylindrical?

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

Cylinder is -1.5.

You started wearing the 2nd pair? What's the longest you've worn the first pair continuously till now?

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

yea.. longest i wore was 33 days. i was quite comfy on the last day as well, i think i'll have to setup alarm in future to remind me of the expiry of 30 days !

not sure of -1.5, i have 0.75 but don't need toric as such. Optician increases spherical by 0.5 to compensate..

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

Tried the compensated method once, didn't work. So no option but toric.

Anyway, this is incredible. You used them a full month continuously! Don't think many people have done that even in other cleaner countries, leave alone india.

I have -0.75 cyl, tried the compensatory method it didn't work. In my opinion, after 0.5 (the start of cyl), one should go for toric only. A pair of B&L SL59 lying idle as a result of experiment :p

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

hey man, just a suggestion, visit an eye doc sometime and see if your corneas are perfectly okay? of course this would make more sense if you had an eye exam before wearing the hds but i'm sure they can see if anything is wrong. maybe after one more month of wear. don't wanna freak you out but extended wear sometimes results in corneal scarring, staining etc. nothing too serious, but just to be sure.

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

Thanks for the suggestion, perhaps I could have eyes checked after like a quarter.

Cornea scarring/staining - shouldn't it be visible to people around you as well? for example reddening eyes, irritations to self and all? I haven't had this issue even once on HD. Otherwise, with Acuvue clear i used to have issues after 12-14 hours..

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

I'd say if it's not too expensive then get monthly checks done. This is especially because you're wearing them for a whole month non-stop.

Nope, a doctor would need a slit lamp to be sure. The two major issues from extended wear could be corneal hypoxia (low oxygen) and corneal neovascularization (fancy word for blood vessels developing where they shouldn't). Also keratitis or conjunctivitis, either allergic OR GPC. These would be kinda evident with visible inflammation, so you look good there, but there are other checks only a doc can do. And i mean a proper ophthalmologist, not opticians who play doc. I don't think you have anything to worry about, but these are just routine checks which should be done. I would suggest monthly checks for the first quarter and then quarterly or semi-annually after that.

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

sounds convincing.. shall go for a check next month.. and yes, such docs are expensive.. its like spending more than a box of HDs ;)

Re: Contact lenses online from Lensstreet

Well, at a hospital where these specialists visit, it may be as low as 500 bucks? I dunno, i haven't visited any doc in a long time, and i'm sure with the inflation etc. their rates must be higher too...
