Hi Guys,

I have sent an RM1000i PSU for RMA to Corsair and they want me to accept an RM1000x PSU as a replacement which is an inferior product in many respects (list below). There excuses are "the replacement Model RM1000i is not in stock and is EOL." What are my options here ?

1. RM1000x is missing a higher quality FDB fan.
2. The RMx doesn't have the test fan button.
3. The RMi is a multi-rail unit by default - switchable to single rail via Link. The RMx is simply a single rail PSU. [not sure about this one]
4. RMx does not have software monitoring (very important to me)

How old is your PSU?

RMi series is actually discontinued so you won't get the same unless they had an old unit lying around on an off-chance.

If your intention is to get a higher-end unit and it's significantly costlier than your RM1000i or RM1000x then they cannot do so because even they have a certain liability cap for RMAs. Sure they can offer a model that is costlier by a little amount but certainly not by a lot.

Thing is whichever model higher or lower end is nearest to the model you submitted or is the actual product successor is the one you're going to get.

~2.5 years old.

Then I am going to challenge them through various ways. Shouldn't sell something you can't provide support for. FYI, I just want an RM1000i. Even an HX 1200 wont give me software monitoring.

Given it was released in 2015 with a 10 year warranty it's weird the I series is already EOL while its co-launched X series is around. But, It's already stated in their warranty terms. They're not refusing support. As per their warranty terms, the support they are providing is a similar replacement for an EOL product.

Obsolete or Discontinued Products

An obsolete or discontinued product will be replaced by the same product if it is available. If the same product is unavailable, Corsair will replace the obsolete or discontinued product with a product of similar function and capacity.

You and I have a very different definition of similar. Even if you ignore the three missing features out of four, lack of software monitoring is a critical thing and one of the main reason I brought the PSU. These PSUs are not similar or even equivalent.

You and corsair have a different definition of similar ;). The only model that still has monitoring is the Ax1600i iirc. Did you escalate the issue? If they don't have a iSeries lying around to provide replacement, then like Enthusiast said, you'll be offered the nearest model to your current one.
My only RMA experience with them ended with an upgrade from semi modular to fully modular PSU for me with couple of months left on warranty.

If those are their terms then you can definitely challenge them on the basis of the replacement product not having similar functions. But the big issue is that you will definitely have to take them to court and even that will probably only get you a refund.
I would suggest try and contact Corsair Global directly and see if they can ship you your exact model if it is available anywhere else in the world, if not in India. You won't get much help from Corsair India, and I am assuming you have already tried explaining your POV to them.

Well, if push comes to shove, consumer court will decide what is similar or not. Not saying things would go in my favor but let's see. FYI, They also have 1500i with monitoring capabilities.

I have replied to them on their support ticket/mail. I am waiting for a reply from them. I will create a support ticket with Corsair USA afterwards with details. If that doesn't work then I will go to consumer forum portal, and then I will have to contribute to a lawyer's salary.

If the monitoring is that critical to you, good luck with Corsair. Just hope the indian courts resolve it in timely manner if it gets to that.

I've become somewhat of a PSU aficionado over the last couple of years and there's very little difference between the original 2015 RM1000x and RM1000i apart from the USB interface.

However, the 2021 RM1000x is a far more superior and robust design compared to those two.

The RMi is a multi-rail unit by default - switchable to single rail via Link. The RMx is simply a single rail PSU. [not sure about this one]

All modern designs are single rail by default, it's extremely efficient which translates to less heat output at full load. Switching from single rail to multirail in the 2015 RM1000x almost always lowers efficiency. You would want multirail for an added layer of protection for multi GPU setups, at the cost of decreased efficiency and increased heat output.

2. The RMx doesn't have the test fan button.

The 2021 RM1000x can provide the full 1000w at 47C and it has Corsair's newest maglev fans which are much quieter. This outclasses any previous Corsair PSU that's 80+ Gold and below.

4. RMx does not have software monitoring (very important to me)

Arguably, this is the only downgrade. All of the 'i' series except the AX1600i were discontinued due to the chip shortage during the pandemic, USB interface chips had become highly sought after and were scooped up by other manufacturers. That and most motherboard's reporting of the voltages were more accurate so this feature may have been redundant.

I am not sure which model they are asking me to accept. The model no. shared by them is CP-9220201-IN -RM1000x. I can't find any details about it.

Or for balls to the walls system overclock including CPU,GPU and MEMORY in a very hot environment.

Like I said, not sure which PSU they are offering. The PSU that is generally available in India is model SKU CP-9020094-UK not the one you are referring too.

Not sure whether we can confidently say that readings from Mobo are better or not but Corsair Link provides many other details including power in/out, efficiency data and a way to control PSU fan as well.

That is probably the 2021 model. Confirmation is here https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-rm1000x-2021-power-supply-review with this image:

If you can get them to confirm it's 9020201 and not 9220201 then they're offering you a better, newer PSU but with less features (USB interface).

This is the 2015 model.

You may not get the "next upgrade model." That's the thing with warranty policies. The model you receive it not as bad as you claim it to be tbh. Even if you want to go full technical on them you will need to resort to consumer courts which you may not even win. You think its worth all that effort aka headache? Personally I would accept it since it would be a brand new sealed piece.

I am not looking for a "next upgrade model.". This is the best model for my needs in this class of Corsair PSUs. I am waiting for an update from them regarding some of the details of the model they are offering me and then I will make my decision.
Update: Corsair has agreed for a refund but haven't confirmed the amount. I have told them I would accept it (or not) after they confirm the amount. They are offering CP-9020201-UK model btw.

So once they refund the amount, is there any other PSU that still meets your requirement?

Nvm, just saw the bump to your WTB thread

I want a Corsair AX1600i but it isn't available anywhere in India to my knowledge. Everything else falls short of what I need. Either the PSUs don't have software monitoring, or are legacy models or are substandard in performance & build quality or just outright not available.

The refund amount will be on the basis of pro rata+depriciation. Jo psu de rahe hai le le bhai.
