Update time:

Got a good 5 hours in yesterday and obtained the Drake's sword. This is all I needed to make some real progress. This sword is insane. It's has a damage stat of 200 and lightning element attached to it. Now the undead soldiers and balder knights are just one hit away from being sent to their grave. I was able to clear out all the mini bosses in the Undead Parish. However, I couldn't defeat Havel The Rock in Undead Burg. That f*cker's weapon is really powerful. Will approach him later.

Ventured into the Darkroot garden and took care of the Moonlight Butterfly boss. I died on my first encounter, as I didn't know what to do and was low on Estus flasks. The moment I re-spawned, I just bum-rushed through the garden and went straight for the boss fight. Since this boss stays at a distance, I used my pyromancy flame to do some massive damage to it. Then it suddenly fell down and was dazed. That's when I started hammering away with my sword. Just 2 more hits and victory was mine. :D

Now I'm really getting confident, as I'm going purely melee. I now have the Elite knight's armour and shield. The best thing about this game is that there is no inventory capacity restriction this time, unlike Demon's Souls. So you don't need to dump or deposit your loot anywhere. Just let them pile up in your inventory. I dispose off the useless ones, as they can't be sold. Also, I re-visited the Firelink shrine again and now it's a piece of cake to take down those Skeletons which were giving me a bloody hard time in the beginning. This game is brilliant.

Good going Allwyn! :)

obtained the Drake's sword

From that dragon's tail? Did you have sufficient arrows?

However, I couldn't defeat Havel The Rock in Undead Burg. That f*cker's weapon is really powerful.

So what happened? You died? And what of the souls?

The best thing about this game is that there is no inventory capacity restriction this time, unlike Demon's Souls.

You mean there's no restriction concerning weight?

From that dragon's tail? Did you have sufficient arrows?

How did you know that? I did not have a bow, but used a crossbow instead. Got some heavy bolts from the blacksmith Andre. The downside to using a crossbow was that I couldn't zoom in to aim for it's tail. I had to blind fire and found a fixed spot to shoot those bolts to get it right. After about 20 something arrows, the tail was cut-off and I got the sword. I had purchased around 120 bolts, just to be safe. :P

So what happened? You died? And what of the souls?

I died quite a lot. The souls were safe, as I lured him to a spot where I would be able to safely retrieve my bloodstain later on. I figured out his attack patterns today and finished him off without using a single Estus flask. Very easy, once you knew what to do. I managed to get Havel's ring, which now doubled up my equip load capacity. I can now move and dodge much faster *phew*. Miraculously, I was also able to beat the Prowling demon (mini-boss) as well. Got a Demon titanite from him (upgrade shard). :P

You mean there's no restriction concerning weight?

Yep. You can carry unlimited amount of loot. However, the equip burden still exists. You're movement will be penalized, if you're equip burden is high. So endurance stat needs to be boosted for it.

Purchased the heal miracle, but sadly, I'm unable to use it as my faith stat is at 8. The miracle requires it to be at 12 and I can't even equip the Talisman to cast it, as that requires a faith stat of 10. :mad44:

How did you know that?

I've been following a guide. :P

So Allwyn do you reckon the starting is fairly simple? I remember I got raped in Boletarian Castle 1-1 and died at least 6 times before I got every move straight.

And what about the Pyro's magic ability? Is it like Soul Arrow? Can be used unlimited number of times?

Well, it's not simple, that's for sure. The start will instantly throw you into a boss fight with the Asylum demon, who isn't hard at all. Once, you're transported to Firelink shrine, that's where the fun really begins. Like I said before, it's an open world environment and hence, you'll have to explore, die and explore again to get it right. Same rule as before, except no Nexus to go back to out here. Even if you're stuck, we can chat here and I'll provide some handy tips, based on my experience and vice versa.

And what about the Pyro's magic ability? Is it like Soul Arrow? Can be used unlimited number of times?

A pyromancer can cast fire spells by default. It does not have a long range, but is useful for short range combat. Since there is no "magic bar", you'll have limited uses. At start, you'll have 8 fireballs to be cast, once depleted, you can refill them at the nearest bonfire. If you want to increase the number of uses, just keep adding points into your 'Attunement' stat.

Better get used to melee in this one; dodge roll, parry and riposte. Demon's Souls may have spoiled us with the Royalty class, but this game aims to rectify that. :P

Just read another guide (Dark Souls The Official Guide: Future Press). Everything pretty much laid out neatly from every item to weapon to NPC to enemy to boss to area. 383 pages long but a lengthy read for beginners. Skipped it for now lest it should spoil the many surprises the game has in store for me.

In the meantime, I should muster up all the strength and courage and *hopefully* begin the game after I am done with Dishonored.

Allwyn how's your progress? :)

Allwyn how's your progress? :)

Capra demon defeated. Pinwheel (the boss in Catacombs) also down. Re-enforced my Estus flask to +1. Also, got the ability to kindle 20 Estus flask by defeating the Pinwheel boss.

Like I mentioned on the phone, Catacombs was a nightmare. Dozes of traps, narrow areas, necromancers, exploding skulls, skeleton wheel and the smaller mini-bosses. I have currently parked my character at a spot, where I'm not sure how to get back to the nearest bonfire location. I'd stand to loose 18k souls and 2 humanity points, if I don't play wisely. The next immediate area is Tomb of the Giants, where I have no clue, what challenge awaits. :(

Got the Darkmoon Seance ring (adds one extra attunement slot), the Cleric armour set (mage's armour basically) and 3 Eye of Death (not sure what this does) from this level. I have cleared most of the necromancers in this level, but I think I have missed one, as some of those skeletons still continue to get revived. Also, need to take out the Black Knight, who is the only remaining mini-boss of this area. But I'm mostly concerned about my current state. You have no idea how many times I have performed suicide runs today, in this level, just to know the perils that await you on your next step. :(

Dude backup your save file! Better be safe than sorry. I don't know if there's any area in Dark Souls where we could farm souls unlike in Demon's Souls.

I always keep forgetting to back-up the save file, but thanks for the heads up, I will now. In games like this, we can't EVER afford to loose the saves.

About the farming thing, I'm not sure either. I guess we'll just have to keep wandering around to see, which area yields the highest souls.

Totally man. I mean we aren't cheating or something so that's perfectly alright. Call it as a workaround.

But yeah if we die, that's because of our own actions - stupidity, impatience, you name it. :P

Nope. Didn't try that yet, but I stumbled across a video on YouTube which showed how it works. I wasn't able to spend a lot of time with the game, just managed to park my character at a safe spot in the 'Tomb of the Giants'. God this place is so dark, I can barely see a thing and there are giants all over the freakin' place. And guess who I ran into while I was there? Patches! Remember this SOB from Demon's Souls? He's the same guy who lured us towards the pit in Demon's Souls and kicked us down and you know what the joke is, this guy has the nerve of telling me the exact same thing in this game as well. He tells me there's treasure down there. Should I look? :P

Haha yeah I read that Patches The Hyena makes a comeback! :P

Want to believe that bastard who pushed us into that pit before and made us fight a black phantom? But WTH! I guess he'd give us something in return for sparing his life! Dude exercise extreme caution when you do that - I mean full health, plenty of estus flasks, mana full, equip the best armor, rings and weapons!

Just spent a few more hours yesterday and as expected, Patches kicked me down but it wasn't as bad as I thought. I got hold of the Skull lantern, which is highly essential for this area, as nothing is visible within an inch of your character. Also, found Reah of Thorolund and her two bodyguards who had turned hollow. Defeated them and she gladly handed over the 'Replenishment' miracle. My first aim was now to get the hell out of that Tomb, as those giant skeletons were proving to be a bit difficult for my Drake sword's attacks. I have the Black Knight Sword, which has an awesome stat, but it needs my strength to be at level 32, while mine is still at 22. :(

Looks like I'll need to farm my way through to be able to use this sword to it's full potential. Hope it's worth all the farming. I managed to haul my ass out of The Tomb of Giants, swiftly made my way through the Catacombs, then Firelink shrine and finally rested at my favourite hang-out spot; Undead burg. :D

Soul level is now at level 43.

Sweet man. Can I request you to take the game a bit slower please? :P

Let me complete Dishonored and I shall fire up the game right away. Read up quite a bit on the game and some of the enemies, bosses and levels. I don't know why but although I am playing Dishonored right now, half of my mind is with Dark Souls. Like this dark passenger inside me is already playing the game. :ashamed:

Don't worry! I'm just repeating the same areas over and over again. I'm 17 hours in and barely visited the major places, not to mention the DLC locations. There is a lot of ground left to cover. So for now, I'm just shuffling back and forth in the Undead burg, Undead Parish and Darkroot Garden/Basin.

:console:

Don't read up too much though, as it would really spoil the adventure. :)

Is there a way to get rid of this pest? Permanently? Seems like a massive infestation has been plaguing the Gaming board.

Taken care of! Anyways, now that I am a global moderator, I can issue perma-bans. :D

Allwyn, Dishonored is making some progress as we speak. Completed the second and the third chapter today.
