Fired up the game once more. This time it was a little less frustrating. tried out the tactics i read in the IGN guide days back. And successfully got to the 1st boss fight. Now this guy is huge, so read the iGN guide once more and found that the only way to get him is to have a sh1t-load of firebombs. I mistakenly used them all up. About 20 of them. Now I think i've to restart the chapter once more as items once used are lost.

Don't worry, you'll get used to it. I already built up some immunity by dying endlessly in the first chapter. I didn't use that many fire bombs. How did you get to the first boss fight? Did you collect the required souls in the first level and go back to Nexus? How does it work?

Only killing the boss will tell this tale of save mechanism or so i assume.
And there are two ways to get to the boss, one hard and the other easy. Read about it in the IGN guide.
And this time i was using Knight character. He is swift and damaging.

I seriously think this game's difficulty is way too overblown...its intimidating because in 1-1 every beginner will die a lot but after that it becomes easy imo (World 3 was just puzzling but not hard).
Just watch playthroughs on youtube if you get stuck. If you're on ign or gamespot go on the forums and ask/read about the powerful weapon combo (sword/shield) you can reasonably acquire at your level or progress. It'll REALLY help. I played Knight and I got purple flameshield and Dragon Long Sword+1 from world 2-2, and level'd those up and I was 1-shotting through enemies.
I never played a magic character, but I've read playing as a magic character you get to attack from long range so the game becomes easier. There are lots of build paths you can follow from here (Character Builds - Demon's Souls English Wiki).
Dark Souls is releasing in October, which the devs have said will be more difficult than Demon's Souls

Params, the reason I find this game difficult, is not just because of it's initial difficulty level, but I'm not used to the RPG genre. It has never been my forte. If it's so difficult at the start, I shudder to think, how will I measure up to it later on?
