Yep.

Good batting. I had switched off the TV after Dravid got out. I was cursing Ravi Shastri when just after his tongue slipped regarding 55 runs off Swann and he got 2 wickets in the over. :@

But Good batting in the last 10 overs.. Could have mustered about 18 more runs in around the mid of powerplay but then neither its India they are playing in, nor do we have the line up or the confidence these days. Good innings nevertheless.

And they call this an English "Summer"!! Its actually a farce to be even playing like this - the advantage to the batting team when rain interferes (without reduction in overs) is just too much to accept :|

I think in this match England suffered as much batting in the rain. They walked in and walked out at least 3 times IINM. No time to settle whatsoever.

I doubt that. Everytime it happened, they did not have a new batsman in but settled batsmen. With the bowlers already struggling with a dry ball, the impact is all the more on the fielding side

cant help but think what was the RP Singh doing well inside the boundary when bopara offered a straight down the throat chance ?? :cursing:

That would have been match for India. Turned the set off after that drop.

India [strike]305-6[/strike] after end of their innings.

Dravid - 69

Kohli - 107

Dhoni - 50

England need [strike]306[/strike] to win now.

Edit its 304-6 and England need 305 to win. :)

Rahul Dravid, led India to 17 successful ODI chases, Led India to Overseas Victories In Tests, Kept wickets, Scored a mere 10,000 Runs, Played the Assist role better than anyone, Scored the second fastest 50 ?

One of the finest batsmen and sportsmen of my generation calling it a day today. Sad indeed! :(

End of a torturous tour, finally. Come CL 20-20 and all pain will be washed away before the ODI series and Australian tour.

That ends the torturous tour.

I have always felt Dhoni has been :

1. More of a lucky captain than a good one.

2. A bull headed person.

These can be seen from his persistent selections, like:

a. Munaf Patel - The guy cant bat, wont field properly - whenever ball goes to him on the boundary 2 runs are assured. To make up for all his shortcomings he should be an excellent bowler which sadly he is not.

b. Ravindra Jadeja - No words for this guy. Cant bat, cant bowl - only fielding. He did play in "one" of the matches but then so did Agarkar(he scored century at Lords which even Tendulkar/Ponting couldn't). But now that he has played in "one" of the matches he will become the modern day Kanitkar - The guy played so many matches becuase of a four in "one" of the matches.

c. Varun Aaron - This guy supposedly bowls fast and has recieved all around praise. He was brought to England only to sit on the benches. Why? So that Dhoni could prove his arrogance by playing Vinay Kumar repeatedly even when the guy shows lack of any variations. Many wonder why Pakistan has produced fast bowlers whereas India has not. In my opinion one the reasons has been the gut instinct while playing bowlers. Look at Wasim Akram - he was an unknown bowler who had failed to get into his college team and got selected directly into the national team. We need that kind of faith and instinct while selecting our players.

^^ you also forget this is first series loss , he has now got the man of series award , he got us to champions in all aspects of the game! , he must have done something right.....

theres always a down period , you cant just keep on going up , but this was a sad loss indeed , anyway look forward to october when they come here

As for the ODI series, don't think England would have fared better had they batted first. For all the strength in bowling they have in tests, they suck in the limited over format :P

They just got lucky with the toss in all the matches and ended up chasing in all!

And to be honest, it was ridiculous to see every single match being halted due to rain, more so in the 2nd innings. And they call this an English summer!

Not to forget the fact that when they toured India in 08, they also went back home empty handed - did not win a single match on the tour.

Well for one, things always happen for the first time before it becomes a habit :) That aside, yes you do have a down period but not even winning one match - thats not a down time, it's a total system crash, Blue screen of death ...

Dhoni has taken his chances and succeeded and not many have questioned his bull headed selections. Look at T20 World Cup - last over bowled by Joginder Sharma not by his best bowler - many might applaud as a brilliant decision but even in retrospect it was one horrible decision. Yes, Misbah tried his luck with the paddle-scoop and dint succeed. On any other day that was a sureshot four and what would have Dhoni done then?

At the very start of this tour - 1st England Test, Ishant was bowling superbly in English 2nd innings but dint come back to bowl after lunch. Any reason, any sense? He was the best bowler at that time but Dhoni went somewhere else.

England did win many matches on pure luck. Broad chancing his arms and getting away with it. India also had their share in past. Ishant and Laxman partnership in Mohali is one. But that doesn't take away the fact Dhoni needs to retrospect and stop backing players like Jaddu, Munaf Patel.

That all said, when you say he must have done something right - I digress.
