I am proud to be an Indian and yes Im proud to live in India.
But there are certain things that make me wish I was born elsewhere occasionally.
1. Corrupt politicians & cops
2. Flamboyant spending Capitalists
3. The failure to eradicate poverty
4. The greed of the masses
5. Unhygienic educated elite
6. Unhygienic illiterate masses
7. Pseudo-Intellectuals who just mouth off [may be including me & some of us here]
and last but not the least
8. Barkha Dutt
It's very easy to blame all the politicians for all evils and picturing ourselves as victims who did not have the power to stop them. But lets look at our neighbours who have attained freedom more or less at the same time. They are floundering with their failure to live up to their promises. Even though we are no better, we are still showing a lot of promise. This would not have been possible without politicians. What we need now is a leader instead of a politician.
But change doesn't come easily and it should start within each and every one of us. Before we can stand up and say I hate to be an Indian and I don't like to be in India, do we really care on what we do to make it better instead of complaining and whining about it all the time.
To quote Robert Frost "I have Miles to go before I sleep" should be the Mantra of everyone of us. Mediocrity has become an acceptable standard, because we never fought against it. Let's for a change try to fight mediocrity and strive for excellence in making our country the best there is.
Modi is not the answer to all of India's problems, neither we can ignore leaders like him. But high-handedness and excellence does not go hand in hand.
For a change all of us in Techenclave should try and vote this coming election. That would be the first step. As the OP has pointed out, if the white collar comes out and starts controlling the vote bank, I'm pretty sure we can change the course our country has headed.
