the benq 8x is pretty decent. wrote about 4gb of avi files at 12x (took about 6 mins)

bottle posted 8.4 minutes later:

any good ?

maybe as the guy said it could cause problems with some dvd dl media.. maybe TechHead can enlighten us

ANy PI/PIF errors on the disc can cause read slowdowns when read >8X, so the drive manufacturers artificially limit the readback speeds on certain media (mostly RWs and DLs), so as to prevent read errors. But conversely, a readback at 16X can also be seen as the ultimate stresstest for a disc.. if you get a smooth readback curve @16X, rest assured your disc will do fine in all drives!

Why is this thread dead ? This is an extremely useful thread. Why don't we keep posting our scans here with different media that each of us get ? It would also be helpful when a new firmware for any drive is released coz' anyone would be able to compare the scans and decide to flash the newer f/w or keep the old f/w. Mods, sorry for digging this old thread but came across this just now and found this to be extremely useful. Why not make it sticky ? :cool2: There's one other scan here :

I agree..
Maxell 8X -R, Made In Japan. Oversped to 16X, 1640/BSLB.
6:17 for the full burn (-R burns on the 1640 tend to be slower than +R burns..)

Here is one I did yesterday Moser 8x +R @ 12x. (The date shown in the scan is the date on which I made the Nero Compilation.)

Also attached a screen capture of this disk during the Nero burn - burn took about 6:20 minutes @ 12x.

for ppl who say fuji-film edgetec r bad, old scan -

I had major problems with the Edgetec disks burning at 4x and not above that. But now I have returned those disks and have found that the problem was probably in the way I had flashed the hacked firmware. I dont think I will try them again as the MBI +R 8x disks work fine.

Can I make a suggestion - everyone should please do the Disk Qality Test scans at 8x which seeems to be the norm in forums. If scans are done at different speed settings in CD Speed than the results are going to be different.

Correction : 8X for Benq drives, 4X for everything else.
