English TV series discussion

Just finished watching Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and it’s a really well-made series that sheds light on the disturbing reality of his crimes. It does a great job of showing not just who he was, but also the failures that allowed him to continue for so long. What’s even more shocking is that after looking into it further, I found out that some people actually admire him and even fangirl over him. It’s unsettling how some glorify such a person.

Surprisingly wholesome. Also today I learned Ahsaas channa is daughter of Kulbir kaur. I must be living under a rock or something...

The Count of Monte Cristo

A quite well-made adaptation with some obvious mistakes but overall great acting and good pacing. Some suspension of disbelief is required but I still enjoyed it. Sam Claflin carries the show. I wish more period dramas/ classic stories are adapted with this style and set designs. It's just beautiful to watch.

7/10
Some mistakes indeed but the pacing was so good. I feel like the movie is too fast paced or cuts corners while telling the story and since the story is of patience and ultimately revenge the suspense needs to be there to fully savour it. This mini-series is just long enough to keep you within its grasp while not becoming boring.

Hiroyuki Sanada and Fumi Nikaido carried that show IMO. Season 2 when.

Iirc, it is based on a standalone novel and the story has concluded. If they still want to make a season 2, they will have to come up with a continuation of the story on their own, which as we all know, always lacks the essence and meat of the original work by the actual author. I don't know why they always have to continue making sequels when stories are meant to end at some point. There are so many historical fictions/novels waiting to be adapted.

If I remember correctly didn't the show end kinda ambiguously. Which is what made me think there will be a season 2. Better than what happened to GoT but I would have liked a finished finale with things coming to a decisive conclusion.

When I mentioned it to a friend he said the focus with sex ed was on the poorer classes and avoiding pregnancies. Made sense. Funnily enough this applied in the west too especially countries with social welfare and discouraging young girls from leeching off the system. Once they had a kid, they became wards of the state with an allowance to take care of the child along with state provided housing. Want your own apartment? Get pregnant and become a single parent.

In other words for people with more disposable income or middle class these Sex ed classes were for the most part useless.

Do you think they are any better these days?

Those two videos suggest nothing has changed in the last two decades. They want to prevent that pregnancy but could care less what happens to you after you pass that step.

Naah, it is the actual ending. Toranaga’s path to becoming Shogun is assured, but the Westerner remains caught between cultures, forever altered but without true power. His ship is burned, his lover, Mariko is sacrificed for Toranaga's cause. The person, he kept debating with himself for, Toranaga is the actual worst powemonger worse than Ishido, the antagonist and Ochiba, the widow. It's supposed to be a bittersweet ending, enlightening the protagonist as well as the reader/viewer that the person they rooted for is as bad or as heartless as the antagonists they rooted against. And they were just a pawn in the overall game.
