Yeah, I'm referring to computer speakers directly connected to a PC. With good speakers and an amp, I'd rather play CDs :)

Computer connected to an external DAC with stuff ripped to hdd is a better source anyday compared to a cd player ;). Next to zero transport jitter compared to a cd player.

Nikhil, I would suggest you give Breaking Benjamin a try. They kick ass.

One more vote to breaking benjamin.

And since this is a rock thread I thought its time someone listed some alternative rock. :P

So among the new bands you just have to try the following. (not all are new, they include new to me as well as those with their first commercial album)

  • Hinder - if you like nickelback there is no way you would not like them, their first album Extreme Behavior. Favorite songs, 'Lips of an Angel' and 'Get Stoned'
  • Three Days Grace - album OneX
  • Burn Season - first album Burn Season, favorite song 'Suffering' and 'Closer'
  • Tool - cant believe it was all along with me and I never even tried them, needless to say they are awesome, favorite album 10000 days.
New bands that I will try within a week (I heard them on pandora and liked it). They might end up as one song wonders for me.
  • Shine Down
  • Guano Apes
  • The Raconteurs
  • Taking Back Sunday
  • Smile Empty Soul
  • Imogen Heap
  • Kasabian
  • 30 Seconds to Mars
  • Blue October
Among the regular others - 3 doors down, Nickelback, 12 stones, staind (listen to 'right here' if you still havent), Barenaked Ladies, The Calling, Creed, Default, Evanescence, Finger Eleven, Seether etc etc

I dont look for a particular genre but when I really like a song it usually is alternative rock. I too dont know whats the difference between various genres of rock.

EDIT - I'll give special mention to Megan McCauley for being the only other female alt rock in my absolute favorites list.

Then there are those who think disparaging Bryan Adams makes them """Rockers""".
So very true. "you are still listening to Bryan Adams!! grow up dude". However I dont play his songs these days coz I got bored. I end up listening to the album until I get bored of it. Takes a few months.

^^ chris daughtry and hinder are climbing up the alt.rock charts these days.

btw..hinder lyrics are sad (literally) :P..seems like the songwriter is really hurtin :P

And yeah, Staind rocks, I missed them on my list :P

You should check out Incubus too :)

Tool keep experimenting with progressive, alternative and art rock...no one mixes the styles like they do..thts what makes them special...they r heavily influenced by king crimson..the god of progressive rock..:hap2: 10000 days was good but my fav still remains undertow..:ohyeah:

Hell, no one likes german bands here?? So many prog rock fans but no one like vanden plas, dreamscape etc?? :S
