Formula One : US Grand Prix

Some quotes from the mouth of Michelin.
The tyres were not intrinsically flawed, but were insufficiently suited to the extreme racing conditions encountered through Turn 13 of the Indianapolis circuit this year
LOL.........
the loads exerted on the rear left tyre through Turn 13 at Indianapolis were far superior to the highest estimations of Michelin's engineers.

he problem was that we under-evaluated the extreme constraints to which tyres were exposed through Turn 13 in the specific context of 2005

However, in keeping with its principles, Michelin did not sacrifice safety for performance.
ROFL, and they said modifying the ckt would have been safe when no car was tested with that modification and drivers never raced or even practiced on modified ckt

When 1 company can come up with tyres and other cant then there is no excuse for that. As simple as that :p

Michelin had a very very bad weekend...hope they learn something out of it!!

I think some1 said the point is not to win the race in the fastest possible time but to win in the slowest possible time...or something similar...please correct me if i am wrong...

Thats wat Bridgestone did went for the slower but the more reliable tyre n Michelin did the opp!!

Heh, it was funny that Bridgestone made announcement the same day that their tyres are good for 100 more laps of the circuit.
It was like rubbing the salt on Michelin's wound :p

2005 United States Formula 1 Grand Prix, Indianapolis
Straight talk and a sincere gesture for the American spectators: It could have been an exciting race

One week after the Indianapolis Grand Prix, Michelin wishes to make a sincere gesture of goodwill towards the people present at the GP, a group whose passion for F1 is encouraging in the development of this sport in the United States.

Therefore, on our own initiative and in total solidarity with our partners, we have taken two decisions:

1. Michelin has decided to contribute to the costs incurred by the spectators present at the circuit on Sunday June 19th 2005 by offering to refund their tickets. This is an important decision, since Michelin is not at all legally bound to do this.

Michelin deeply regrets that the public was deprived of an exciting race and therefore wishes to be the first, among the different groups involved in the Indianapolis race, to make a strong gesture towards the spectators.

2. Michelin also offers to buy 20,000 tickets for the 2006 U.S. Grand Prix to be given to spectators who were present at the Indianapolis race in 2005. We are offering this to promote further Formula 1 interest in the United States.

We would also like to take this opportunity to underline the fact that it is unacceptable that our partner teams have been accused by the FIA of having boycotted the Indianapolis Grand Prix. The reality is that together, Michelin and its partners have done everything possible to assure that the race could take place in total safety.

We are extremely disappointed that the proposals made with all our teams were not accepted. These proposals, including a chicane, were technically viable and totally met all safety requirements. On Sunday morning, June 19, the sporting authority had all the means necessary to preserve the interest of the race.

And yet, the sporting authority rejected the proposed solutions. Why? In our view this is totally incomprehensible and reflects a lack of respect for the spectators.

It is the spirit of respect for the spectators that brought us, with our partners, to propose solutions to allow the race to take place in total safety. It is this same spirit that leads us today to make this gesture.

@Michelin : stop the crap....pay the money get it over with....stop giving us bullshit like we tried to save the race n other crap.

And yet, the sporting authority rejected the proposed solutions. Why? In our view this is totally incomprehensible and reflects a lack of respect for the spectators.

In my view what they put up is totally 'incomprehensible' and reflects a lack of repsect for ppl who understand the sport!!!
Man this is pure nonsense!! first all they commit a suicidal mistake and then blame FIA n others for not 'listening' to their 'suggestions' what a load of crap!

Hell they made huge errors estimating the stresses the tyres would go thru on a circuit which they had already raced on n had tons data already on the same...
what would have guaranteed that their tyres would be safe even if the chicane was put up.....its not just worth the risk!! who would michelin blame then???
The reality is that together, Michelin and its partners have done everything possible to assure that the race could take place in total safety.

This must be a joke!! you make a fundamental error like not having the 'safe' tyres and then say this....Michelin will burn in hell!!

Bridgestone enjoyed a head start in preparation for the ultimately calamitous US grand prix.

That, in a letter to its seven partner teams, is the furtive contention of disgraced F1 tyre supplier Michelin.

In the email correspondence with teams including McLaren and Renault, the French company explained that it was surprised by the nature of Indianapolis' resurfaced asphalt.

Michelin said Bridgestone, through US brand Firestone, 'participated in the Indianapolis 500,' thus imparting experience of the newly 'diamond ground' banking.

''(Michelin) ... needed to make several assumptions about the surface,'' it declared.
you can believe that,,,:)

Not Bridgestones fault that their brand Firestone participated in the Indianapolis 500....
I guess good things happen to good ppl :D

I guess some ppl still have to come to terms with whats happened and accept that it was Michelins fault. Making stupid excuses wont help:bleh:. Michelin messed up, so the teams using them also messed up. Thats it. No point talking about it anymore. All is clear. Michelins ruined everything.

Excuses like Firestone and all are nothing but ways to avoid the inevitable. Besides, its almost like diverting ones attention to another topic when you know you are at fault and not willing to accept it due to embarassment and other probs:p.
So, no point arguing about this.
The above is my view alone and I donot aim this post at any member. Any offence taken is unintentional.

isn`t it the time now to prepare for new race and rub the new wounds on the michelin body in their own backyard ................
:p :p

the ultimate will be for Ferrari to get a 1-2 in France on Michelin's home turf......

but imagine if this had happened at Magny Cours!!!! That would have been awesome!!!! Michelin humiliated at home!!!
