Front loading or top loading washing machine?

Anyways, the shop rep has confirmed that their machines have sealed drums. I take his word.
Does he even understand your question? maybe he interpreted it as you being nervous the thing would spring a leak Well, off course its sealed then yes.

Ask him to prove it with a photo. For the Serena ZSS. He's got help surely

And ask him to give you the dimensions of any 8kg machine he has. Diameter of the drum and depth

Guys, What would be the best FL washing machine under 32k for a family of 4

It's got steam since that is the fashion these days. Unnecessary. It comes with a touch panel since we are now in the touch era. Fewer options than available earlier. No Rinse hold.

If you can spend a little more and have delivery available for your post code then you can get something more old school with actually useful features and no steam

This Serena WX has all the features of my no-frills LG bought in 2016

Cheaper than 32 k only smaller capacity drum models are available and I don't find them suitable for one person let alone a family of 4.

Is the "Inverter Direct Drive" tech on LG better than Samsung's "Digital Inverter" ? Is this just a marketing jargon?
Samsung is offering 20 yeas warranty on its motor whereas LG is offering 10 !
Need a front load 6-7 kg fully auto

I got its 7kg version for like 21k. Notice the difference in the depth. 7kg has bigger drum which can fit more clothes. But yeah, 6kg version should be fine for 2 people.

Edit: Just noticed that samsung has reduced warranty from 3 year to 2 year. Although it doesn't make any difference, they doubled the warranty on the motor.

So there is a 7KG Samsung with WI FI - https://www.flipkart.com/samsung-7-...g_capacity&sattr[]=wifi_connectivity&st=color

and one without which is 2.5K cheaper

Does anyone have any experience with this "Smart" version.?

Imho the only thing I really miss in most modern machines is the lack of a timer.

I don't really have any real brand preferences. I'm guessing whatever has good after sales support and is relatively easier to maintain.

I have moved to Gurgaon so no more excessive humid conditions like Mumbai

Once one company makes the claim they all they have to include the feature regardless of whether it works.

Samsung steam.jpg

Maybe it will help keep the drum cleaner.
Takes longer to select options on that
and one without which is 2.5K cheaper

Older display which is easier and faster. I miss the Rinse Hold feature that seems to have gone missing on models of late. That is a really useful feature for a number of reasons.

Say you have to leave the house for whatever reason. You switch the spin speed to rinse hold so the clothes remain soaked in water until you get back and then you can resume a spin. Otherwise, the spun clothes in the machine left there will lead to mildew and get excessively crumpled.

You can put additives in the rinse cycle that need a longer soak time.

Why is it in POLISH though?

Not necessary unless you want remote control

Since you are a first time FL buyer do yourself a favour and go to a store and browse so you understand what you are getting in real life

When I go to shops I usually open doors and slam them a few times to hear the sound. Stick my head inside the machine. Tip the thing to see what is underneath

That sort of thing...you can't do with these online stores

Thanks. I clearly wasn't paying attention to the display.

I think I'll see if Croma has the 7KG Samsung. Sometimes they have better deals in person.

I've used an IFB Front load from 2009-2012, then an LG front load till 2017. Don't remember models as these were all provided at rented flats so Yeh I do have enough experience with them.

This is the first one I'm buying for myself (and the wife)

The IFB was used with 4 other roommates and was heavily used and abused. It had to be fixed once thanks to some idiots not emptying their pockets before putting in their clothes. The amount of coins and matches that came out were ridiculous.

My in laws have had issues with IFB in the past so they have convinced the missus to stay away from IFB, however if there is a highly recommend IFB I think I will be able to convince her as long as its within our budget

Which area are you going to? How is the water situation and the quality? I found IFB a tad bit nosier than my LG because the former still relies on belt and pulley while the latter is Direct Drive. But I am satisfied with the wash quality of both LG and IFB.
If your area has soft water and LG has a good service, then go for it. My main reason for going with IFB was they have 4(warranty)+10(motor warranty)+10(spare parts available) year support. LG gives only 2+10, so long term spare availability can be an issue.

Make a note of any model# they offer as deals and post it here before buying. I'm wary of anything called deal

There is one that does not have touch panels and has functions that I consider helpful. See post #603 and more at post #527 & #547 for an alternative called Senator

It's called Serena WX. That WX is important. You do not want the Serena ZSS. Confusing.

If you can see it in a shop all the better but that might be harder since it's an older model. I found the IFB lineup confusing to figure out compared to the Koreans.

Keep in mind with IFB there is no automatic load sensing like with Samsung or LG. So you have to select a shorter time when doing lighter loads. The Samsung & LG will automatically select time depending on load. Usually between 1h30 for light loads and going as long as 2h30+ for full loads with the cottons cycle.
I suppose you can get used to this. The water level will surprise you though. The newer ones use even less water.

User Manual (pdf)

I think having the features you need easily accessible without needing wifi is the easiest

The funny thing I notice with the new Samsungs is they have to be 'calibrated' every six months. There is a key press combo you need to activate to get it to run this self-test program.

My understanding with LG is they have spare parts for their appliances for ten years.

Don't need WiFi per se. Just thought it would have been good to have as I hope the machine lasts at least 10 years.

I have no preference between LG and IFB. The only reason I am leaning towards Samsung is because of a better price and most of my Samsung home Appliances (Fridge and Convection Micro) have been ok so far.

It offers an alternate way to operate the machine in case there is a touchpanel problem in the future

Could you get used to operating a machine like this? the catch here is the cheaper models might only allow monitoring as opposed to setting and changing settings. But still advertised as smart capable.

Boil wash with intensive selected once a month, every month or a drum clean and you might go beyond 10 years.

I am looking for a replacement for my current LG 7kg Front loader purchased in 2011.
7kg or 8kg.

First took a loot at the LG website. Price is what is mentioned over there, so we can
treat it as an upperbound.

One thing that caught my attention is the present 7kg ones all have 45cm depth, where as
my present one has a depth of 56cm.
Does this mean the current 7kg models have smaller drum ?

Yeah, big-time upper bound. Prices are lower everywhere else

Yes

They added 1kg to their weight ratings a few years ago

My 7kg also has the same depth as yours but today someone would need to get a minimum of 8kg LG to enjoy a similar size drum

Any reasons you need to replace your present machine? You got 12 years out of it which is good.

Two days ago I had been to the LG showroom. The sales rep talked endlessly, I
remember him saying if you want 8kg machine, you should buy 9kg now.
I didn't get it then. He also didn't explain.

About two years ago a LG service engineer made me change the control panel though
I was not convinced. I was under pressure to get the machine running.

Now there is a different problem. Display is fine, I can select the wash program, set temp, speed etc.
But when I press start, I usually get the red "child lock" symbol and machine starts running. But
now that symbol does not come and the machine just sits idle.

A local service guy pointed finger at the control panel, wants 2000 rs to repair the
current panel. I suspect the door lock assembly (the solenoid stuff), but I am too
tired to fight these guys.

Any ways, it is the right time to change the machine.

The depth of 9kg machines is the same as 8kg so the drum capacity is the same. I see no advantage in going with 9kg unless you need the features.

Spin speed makes a difference though. A 1,400rpm model typically has a stronger gauge steel than a 1,000 rpm max model. I'd not use the high speeds though to keep wear and tear on the bearings to a minimum

The only red symbol on my LG is that the door is locked. Any way to reset the machine? might clear up some of these hiccups.

For 2k it's worth a shot.

It's interesting that your problems mostly have to do with electronics. No mechanical problems whatsoever.

Tell us how you used the machine. What temperature washes do you do most often? What kind of detergent? How you maintained the machine etc.
Any ways, it is the right time to change the machine.
You want a machine with a clear untinted door. I see a few models with dark tinted doors and that is just not good

They are all touch screens these days and that means contact issues down the road if you see earlier posts in the thread.
