Front loading or top loading washing machine?

My 2 year old LG top loader has started squeaking when the drum rotates. The sound is like a toy and progressively gets louder when the wash cycle starts. Then after 4-5 minutes it just disappears. I tried to make out the source of noise and it seems to come from back bottom of the drum. Is it scaling or is it something else? I didn't get time to descale the machine from a year.

There can be a number of reasons for this. So start with something simple.

Is the machine level? See here how to level it.

That's the first thing i checked. Yes it is level. I checked it with spirit level 2-3 times. Even checked the drum. Everything is level. Outer Drum does not touch the sides anywhere. There is almost 2 inches space between drum and body on all sides. IN a YT video, the noise was coming from the drum scratching the foam pad on the body but in my washing machine, the foam pads are above the drum level for some reason. So they will never touch the drum. And the foam pads are just 2 inch in width. Looks like normal foam pads available on Amazon. Foam pads should have been at least 4-6 inches in width looking at the Yt videos. Cost cutting in india.

My Bosch machine seems to have finally given up after almost 9 years. I had changed the dampers 3-4 years ago but more recently the machine was making a terrible noise beyond what happens due to poor hock absorption or levelling.

The Bosch technician said he could change the dampers again but the issue is with the drum itself and replacing it will cost almost as much as a new machine and recommended I change the current one under exchange while it still works somewhat.

So, what are the current recommendations for 8-9 kg load with an above average budget?

Surprised it's so much. Would have expected half the price you paid when it was new.

Which is still high but not as high as he said. Also if they don't have the drum assembly they will have to order it and that will take more time.

The terrible noise is the bearings that are shot and need replacement. Unfortunately the tub is sealed like all Euro brands making repair which is a fairly straight forward repair on other brands but not feasible with Bosch.

You can go with the model @altair21 has selected. That is the minimum base model you can get.

If you want a little better then look at the model that @Alucard1729 or @MrGordon has selected.

Difference between the two models is here

It is always better to see both models in a store so you get an idea of the size. The Z5M has 10cm less depth than the base model and compensates for it with a larger diameter drum. So volume of the drum for both is similar.

Doesn't seem like I will get any decent offer now. After checking few reviews, I will mostly be going with the Samsung WW90T504DAN instead as price-wise, (not on Amazon, below is reference only), I can get it for about 31k. Most sellers are offering only about 1k in exchange now, so going ahead with one that might provide 2k, so effective cost is little less than 30k, including a total of 4-year general warranty and 20 years on the motor.

What is the final price you can get for the LG's?

4-year warranty how? A top-up warranty for 2 years?

I made the final purchase on the Samsung website and surprisingly the retail site was cheaper than the corporate one. There is an offer for 2-year extended warranty for 499 till Jan 31 and purchasing that along with the machine also results in the "Buy 2, Save 5%" offer being applied, which actually reduces the overall price.

There is a 17.5% instant discount on ICICI, HDFC, SBI cards and since I used the SBI cashback card, there is an additional 5% cashback as well.

Sold off my old machine to Attero Recycling who picked it up from home without checking anything and credited 2k before leaving, all done in about 5 minutes, so would recommend them as well.

The machine was delivered the next day after placing the order and overall damage was about 26.5k, which I suppose is fine considering it was an unplanned purchase. Was not getting comparable offers from other brands online or offline that would push the price below 30k.

Makes you wonder why isn't it.

I'd pay the premium for the LG. Upto 10k more even.

This is not about getting the cheapest available which some people seem to think. L1 syndrome it's called.

You get what you pay for

As I said, going by all the Indian reviews, the Samsung one was rated better than the LG one and it is the model I shared previously - WW90T504DAN1TL.

Yes, the cheaper models are always more popular. So get better ratings.

Sammy adds more features. LG less. Also less attractive. But its got the better wash action with direct drive.

You won't notice much difference going from one belt driven model to another.

Check whether the door latch has loosened a bit. I get similar noise in my 3 year old front loading machine. But when door is pressed a bit while drum is rotating, the noise stops.

Price-wise, both target the 40k mark before discounts, so none is cheaper than the other. Also, not talking about ratings but reviews where machines were tested by the same team. Nearly all of them put the LG and Samsung one neck-to-neck in terms of cleaning. LG gets kudos for its DD, Samsung for its Eco Bubble, diamond drum and AI implementation.

Personally, in such cases, the better price matters more.
