Am assuming that many of you around here would have already watched Rock on, and would have loved to see how Indian cinema has really come of age.. the movie has its fair share of flaws, but it is a pretty neat flick, and so is the soundtrack of the movie which can easily claim to be the first

Same goes for the soundtrack which can easily qualify as the first OST rock album in Hindi, and esp Zehreelay which is probably the first thrash metal in Hindi I have heard

And then you get to read reviews by some super inane jokers like the one here

Music Reviews | Rock On Music Review | Shankar Ehsaan Loy | Lyricist Javed Akhtar

Now this one is really one of the biggest disappointments of Rock On!!. A number with lyrics like 'Yahan Pe Saanp Baste Hai, Sabko Saanp Daste Hai' can't really be taken seriously for making inroads into popular segments. Well, believe it or not but there is a song like this that has been titled 'Zehreeley' and it is such an assault on your ears that you want to move on to the next number (or rather even end of the album) without spending any more seconds into it.

same goes for the review on rediff which is equally idiotic

Music review: Rock on

I wonder why I even bother with the music & movie reviews on the desi portals

even though i love the fact that bollywood has been improving by leaps & bounds over the last few years, so much so that I have been enjoying my last few bollywood movie outings far more than even the top Hollywood flicks of the last one odd year (a notable exception being Dark Night)

It's rather sad to see how the Indian media (internet as well as TV) has been absolutely going down the drain

+1 for that brother.

In fact, I remember reading couple of music review of Dil Chahta Hai... where authors have trashed the music. We all know how that turned out.

One thing I've learned over the years is that, Watch the movie first, then read the reviews and laugh at idiots who wrote it. If the movie is good, you'll find quite some respectable(?) reviewers writing otherwise... and most of the time trash movies of big banners being praised by these same asswipes. Either way, it's more fun to read someone exposing their brain cavity. :)

For example... this idiot writing about song "Socha Hai":

Raja Sen from Rediff said:
The track itself is a basic rock song with the kind of wannabe lyrics -- 'duniya mein hain jung kyon? Behta laal rang kyon?' -- straight out of a bad college band.

Those were probably the best lines in that song. For the record, he is one of the most trashed critic on rediff comments... in fact, it's a popular theory (and quite proven so far) that, if Raja Sen trashes a movie in review... then it's a must watch and stay clear of any movie he praises (mostly chopra, johar, faraah and srk camp flicks).

Most of the journalists now are people who haven't made it into an Engg/Med/Business school. Can't really blame them for a below average IQ and narrow mindedness.

Blame the Indian education system!

That review is such a piece of ****. I myself thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and even more surprisingly, liked the soundtrack. I expected it to have the usual masala dance numbers, which is why I tend to avoid Bollywood movies.

I don't know what Mr Sen was smoking when he wrote this review, but it must have been quite potent to have affected him so!!

For a Bollywood rock album, it's a damn good effort.

Don't know about the Reviews and all. Also I haven't seen the movie yet but don't tell me that you guys actually liked the 'Zehreeley' song. The music is alright but the lyrics are pure trash material. :P The rest of the album is somewhat okay and actually 'different' from the usual bollywood songs. :hap2:

i had completey stopped listening to hindi songs til the time Rock on came..
havent heard anything as sexy as those songs in the last few years..

Rock on!!
Sindabad the sailor!!
Pichle saat din
Socha hai..

Actually havent heard zehreeley:ashamed:

hated zehreeley. rest of the songs except that emotional one were good :D better than normal hindi crap.

Love the music and the lyrics. It's awesome that Javed Sahab, at his age, can write lyrics like those which every youngster can relate to.

Duniya mein hai jang kyon...behta laal rang kyon
Sarhadein hain kyu har kahin

See how he raises a poignant issue in a seemingly fun number! :)

eggjactly my reasons to hate the songs :P

SEL can atleast claim to have some pedigree. their music has always had a rockish touch to it.

cant say the same for javed saab though. javed akhtar has really gotta stop writing lyrics. atleast for such pseudo rock.

Though mainstream by rock standards, the music ain't that bad at all and definitely doesn't deserve a thrashing. That one title ballad is actually a pretty decent composition and the recording quality ain't too bad either :P.

I didn't like the music while watching the movie, and have started enjoying it a bit now :) I do feel that SEL could have done much much much better :ohyeah:

I liked Zehreelay though
As I said, the first thrash metal Hindi number i have heard, and loved it completely

I liked that song too.

btw, The singer Suraj Jaggan, who sang that song, is the same guy who sang it onscreen.

Only movie for which I haven't seen a Promotional 'item' song on TV for a long long time. The movie's music is the best way rock can be packaged in india, its Pop-rockish but what the heck its good!

Zeeherely well, hurts my ears(but then again,I never liked Metal genre).

all other songs are pretty decent, sinbad the sailor and socha hai are good, and phir dekhiye is awesome.

One of the better music album in recent times.Fcuk reviewers, just listen to what you like.

^^ Phir Dekhiye and Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein are my favs. as well. Phir Dekhiye has awesome chords and the latter has that extremely addictive lead :)
