hello guys

Recently bought a Galaxy S4 and i was shocked to find that apart from the binary counter there is one more thing called Knox counter and for which there is no app until now to reset the knox counter. So i have kept my device unrooted and hence not able to install several apps.

Is samsung very serious in rejecting warranty in case if my device is rooted ?. How do the service centers in Chennai (atleast) deal with such situation ? . Do they ignore the root counter and honour warranty or reject it ?

Any experienced user may kindly share his experience..

thanx

I have a s4 i9500 . I regularly check XDA if Knox counter can be reset but it's still not possible . I bought my phone this April so it's still in warranty so will try custom Roms only after warranty expires .
BTW in my two year old s3 I did root it and installed cm ROM . As cm made all the smart stay and native 3g video call feature go away I went back to stock . Happy with the stock ROM .
If you do root the s4 you will loose smart stay , smart gesture , android beam , native 3g video call and some more eye candy features .

Rooting per se will not kill these features imo. And i am going to root only for the purpose of installing full version apps and will never ever install custom roms. Even in that case will my warranty be denied ?

Even if i am going to loose smart stay i am least bothered as it is not useful that much.
Btw can you please tell me how to check if all the components in my s4 are working properly. Particularly the smart stay feature which never work most of the time. Is the 90 deg angle strictly followed by the device ?

Smart stay is buggy . I have the same problems as you . I install full versions of apps from apk archive . Google it . To install full version of apps root is not needed . The need for root in your case arises to remove bloatware only . Contrary to what others say some times I find touchwiz good and it never lags . The phone is pretty darn fast .
BTW I do not use the fancy features and turn off smart stay air gesture etc .

There is one keyboard called swype which comes with dragon speech recignition. The pro version of this app works only if the patched google play is installed. I have not attempted to install that google play in s4 but i have it installed in my tab 2. Can i get a patched google play which does not require root ?

If all the apps work properly without root i dont require it at all. Is there anyway to do it ? There are some apps which require root even genuine ones i suppose..

Imo pre installed apps are full version only with basic features so the question of limited version or pro version will not arise with pre installed apps. I am talking about 3rd party apps or the apps which dont come pre installed.

And initially i was about to buy s3, but circumstances made me shell more to get s4. Is the extra amount spent worth it ? .

To be honest the extra amount is not worth it really . S3 is sleeker and has better battery life , but is stuck on android 4.3 but s4 is on 4.4.2 . Screen wise even though s4 is full HD you can't really differentiate between the two .

Try towelroot it does not requires flashing with Odin, I had used it on At&t S4 and worked perfectly.
Towelroot will root the device i9500 without triggering knox ?. The last version can work properly only with i9505 i.e, google play edition i read. Are you sure ?

When i asked customer care about warranty for rooted phone he just said that a rooted phone is disqualified to be a Samsung product and it is not material whether rooting is responsible for the issue or not. This is unacceptable. If there is a display or a touchscreen or camera or sound issue, how can these be the cause of rooting. Clever Samsung
