Gaming mouse, does it make a difference?

Rave

ex-Mod
Ive been playing CS for quite some time now, and have came across this far too often, people on server start discussing about all the latest and the best mouse that are outin the market, that made me wonder, now wud a so called better mouse make that much of a difference?

I
ve seen ppl play like geniuses with mices like MX 518's and the Razer plasma, and have also seen ppl play like pros using standerd basic mouse by Microsoft/Logitech. now does that mean that if given the 'better' mice, those ppl would perform out of the world? or is it just that u play best with what ur comfortable with or a blend of both

O
k, now lets see..

we have, at the moment 2 Mouse that are called the TOP gaming mouse money can buy, one is the MX 518, the other is the Razer Diamondback Plasma.

MX 518

Now from what ive heard/read about this mouse, this mouse is gooood, excellent response, no lags, and loads of functions few being on fly resolution change and, what else? loads of keys that u can program using the configuration utility that comes with it. the downsides of this mouse mainly is that its only for righthanded ppl, and the right click getting stuck problem when the mouse is new that Chaos recently pointed out to me, and its compraitivly heavy...

Razer Daimondback Plasma Edition

Now now, ive heard only good things about this mouse and have not done that much of a research about this mouse to comment on the downsides of this mouse, but the plus factors are first and foremost is its weight, its super light, and can be used by both right and left handed people. Again, this mouse sprots extra keys that you can program and is a rather sexy looking mouse....

Now comes the main point, does these mice really make their price tags worth it? and am not comparing these mice with the alcheapo Adcom or some crap, lets say, MS or Logitech Basic mice, MS wheel mouse optical or even their IE series....

Post your views about this.....

Well, id pick the 518, as its good w/o the drivers and i lan a LOT. so i need to take it everywhere i go and i cant install drivers everywhere i go.

Secondly, the db plasma is USELESS and yes USELESS w/o drivers.
hopefully the Copperhead is not as bad.

The mx518 fits my hand perfectly infact and thats why i stick with it.
So its on comfort more than anything.

First things first... Its your reflexes and not the mouse when playing FPS's...

Though a good mouse does make a difference but not a lot... I use a MS IE 3.0... And its quite good to work with but yes somewhere down the line i would like to upgrade to a MX 518... Only upgrade if your mouse is a wheel mouse or your optical is dying... Otherwise i dont see much reasone to upgrade... And never upgrade due to peer pressure...

makes no diff. at all. play what your comfortable with.

if buying good mouse & mousepad would make u play good then everyone would more or less play the same.

^^Hell it does make a diff.... my rail accuracies went up from high thirties to low fifties just by changing the mouse. No kidding.. a good pad+mouse is absolutely necessary!

I agree it makes a difference but then reflexes are the basic. We once saw this guy come into our gaming center, picked up the standard Zebronics mouse lying there and fragged the hell out of everyone, many who were using Dual Optical mice and all...

I'm planning on buying the MX518, not sure about it though. Can anybody tell me if it has two optical sensors cause all my freinds have Logitech Dual Optical mice but they don't know the model no.

It doesnt have dual... no mouse has dual sensors anymore... it has a single high precision 1600 DPI sensor.

eh........

Where is my post gone? some weird stuff happeneing. I saw many posts simply vanishing.

Anyway what i said was.

Mouse helps, specially 1600dpi helped a lot to me.

Its about the sensitivity. At 1600DPI you can cover the whole screen with little movement of your hands which is advantage. You can point from point A to B quicker. No mater what people say its an advantage if you can cope up with high sensitivity. Some pople cant.

Some people know how bad i was at CSS as I never played the game before MAY, not even CS. But MX518 has helped me a lot. I can stand 1600DPI. And thats the only setting i use these days. And i can call myself avarage CSS player now insted of bad :p

I was never good at shooters. But I can kill more than i die now :p

MX518...fits in right hand percetly.PERIOD

I wasnt a games at all..but still liked the MX518 for its shape n the DPIs....

Big Hand? 518 or G5.
Small Hand? CopperHead.

what jhatuGiRRI!!!

@ goldi: Who said its useless w/o drivers? Dude, I have not used the drivers after around 10 days of getting the mouse. I just it use it at full 1600 dpi as it comes stock w/o drivers or any modifications. And it rocks.

Yes the mouse is a personal preference. Actually, I found this interesting. I sold my Dmb Plasma to a friend. Now I am waiting for my Copperhead to come and using a Rs 350 Intex mouse. Yes I do miss the accuracy but boy o boy. I never played like this on Intex when I had it before. So ur gameplay maybe be lifted by say 25% but if you dont have the reflex or the abillity to spot heads in dark areas, your game is not gonna improve by purchasing uber leet mouse.

Yes, the MX518 / G5 is larger and heavier. So it gives way to a stable aim. I.e. stability is forced on u due to the weight. With razer you can be even more stable if you can handle the sensi. Its a freaking fast mouse and can be used by the best players to do some really dangerous damange.

So I hope you guys understand..............

Cheers,

Karan
