I'll have to quote myself from my response at Digit Forum:What is the diffrence between a modded and a retail version of ps2?
Couple of them. You can play any region DVD's on the modded one whereas the original one will only play the region which it resides to.So say an original PAL PS2 console won't be able to read an NTSC US/J DVDs.Also you can connect your portable HDD to run games off the HDD on a modded one.Though the procedure is very complicated & needs a lot of luck too.You can load certain exploits like Gameshark & ARmax to run your saves or get access to cheat codes on a modded console.
It is possible but modding can cost anywhere between Rs.500 to 1k.So add that to the cost of the original console & it should surely be higher than that.H2O said:The MRP of PS2 at sony showrooms is 6.9k. So 6.5k is achievable for a modded one.

I was referring to the local consoles being modded. The already modded ones can vary in their price range. No doubt they are imports but that means the dealer can have his take at the price.I had found a modded SCPH-9006 model for 6.5k when I was hunting for my PS2.When I peeked into the box I realised that the default controller which is supposed to be an original one was swapped with a fake one.Hence I backed out instantly.Got it for 7.5k with a years service warranty from the store that I got it from.:hap2:sushantV said:The modded consoles come in the grey market, without paying any taxes/customes/excise, hence cheaper.
Even after modding, they are cheaper than the showroom price.

You still haven't completed it yet? Man without that the entire GOW experience falls flat. When GOW 2 ended I was like what the hell? Is that it? Ah come on.It's a pity that GOW 3 is a PS3 exclusive.Wish they could bring it across to PS2.This console still hasn't given up yet. It's like that saying "The show ain't over till the fat lady sings" hyeah:sushantV said:The best idea is NOT TO BUY controllers and mem cards. Instead..buy the main unit with the power adapter.
The controller and the mem card are sold in a pack ....get them from the showroom.
But still I like that PS2 still rocks. I wish I could finish my GOW2.
