Somebody (while repping, of all places to ask) asked me a question - why not intel?
Intel CPUs have lower power consumption, usually. A face-off will show that up quite easily. The problem is that Intel onboard GPUs pretty much suck, so to eke any performance out of that platform one will need to buy a graphics card (even for video and reasonable desktop usage).
That throws any power consumption advantage out of the window. If you are looking for a middle-end gaming PC such as the i5, Intel has got some kind of chance, but the platform costs become obscene at that point (though it may still make sense given their immense clockability). Only at the real high-end (i7) does Intel have a pretty fat advantage, as nothing AMD has can touch it right now in terms of pure horsepower.
