PC Peripherals Goodbye Pentium III

Somebody (while repping, of all places to ask) asked me a question - why not intel?

Intel CPUs have lower power consumption, usually. A face-off will show that up quite easily. The problem is that Intel onboard GPUs pretty much suck, so to eke any performance out of that platform one will need to buy a graphics card (even for video and reasonable desktop usage).

That throws any power consumption advantage out of the window. If you are looking for a middle-end gaming PC such as the i5, Intel has got some kind of chance, but the platform costs become obscene at that point (though it may still make sense given their immense clockability). Only at the real high-end (i7) does Intel have a pretty fat advantage, as nothing AMD has can touch it right now in terms of pure horsepower.

its been 3yrs with my pc that is powered by a stock smps
from the zebronics cabinet
its good even for 24/7/30/12/365 use:ohyeah: and its still cool when we touch it

my stock is going good since 5 years
but wat abt power consumption!!
kabi socha hai?

I think my stock PSU beats urs MohitPreet. 9 years of operation and still going. I'm not even sure the manufacturers knew if their product will work for 9 years.

So far +3 for Seasonic 380W (this is definitely my choice now)

Well 5750 seems to fit my bill. But have to wait atleast two or three months for the GPU, since I'm investing my money in some lenses for my DSLR :hap2:.

The problem with Intel now is new generation i5 and i7 platforms are still out of reach for most PC buyers. i3 which is budget segment still not launched. so budget conscious users are left with dying LGA 755 socket CPU(C2D,C2Q) which is now E.O.L(End of life). intel does not make that anymore. its only clearing the dead stocks.

Unless you have a very tight budget which cannot be increased, it makes sense to Switch to AMD platform(Athlon II/Phenom II).

AMD means budget. Plus intel will never give a quad core for 99$, we have to wait for the release for i3 to see if they are able to do that. But AMD has scored with the early introduction of AMD II X4 processors that too at an unbeatable price. long live AMD.

had been to delta peripherals today. the mobo is out of stock and will probably come tomo. And the PSU seasonic 12II 380W is not available. i asked in a few shops but noone has them, the delta guys had a corsair VX450W. In one shop they even said there is no such company called seasonic. how does the Corsair VX450W compare against the Seasonic 12II 380W. So if all goes well by friday I should all the components ready for my build. :)

I repped u  and FYI G31 onboard can easily play full HD content with 0 hitches! On-board graphics of today are much powerful than u think. I am not trying to convince u of buying intel, just clearing your misconceptions, amd onboard is even better!

We need to keep in mind things were different years ago, the dvd drives had longer lifes, bullet engines had a heavier crank, wires were better, companies manufacturing anything gave importance to quality. Now things are different, competition in everything is cut-throat. Manufacturers find ways to do cost cutting in every possible way hence spending money on a good psu makes sense to me atleast, don't know about u. In forums we can only educate ourselves/others but our responsibility stops there!

That is true, since intel has regained the market with the launch of conroe they will never bother to do intensive price cutting they did when AMD was beating them right/left/center/bottom/in the ass back i 2003-2007 :cool2:.

Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB - 3.1 or 3.2k max. Don't go in for Seagate IMO.

Check out Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Edition - That's the one I'm planning to buy, looks shmexy

I'd suggest a good C2D setup with a good G31 board to save on the cash with a decent GPU.

And be sure to take the advice of the good people here and go in for a good PSU, that's what's usually the culprit when something effs up in your comp. You DO NOT want to be left with a dead mobo/GPU/faltering HDD.

rockafella I don't have anything against INTEL or anything, after being a loyal user for 9+ years. But i would like to go for a quad core.

I will try for a 640GB sibot, if it is available for the price around 3k.

Also what would be the price of Corsair VX450W in chennai? The delta guy said he can give it for 3.2k! Most likely I will start my purchases today.

Very unlikely. It must be the CX400.
If you are getting the VX450 at that price, you should be buying his entire stock and selling it in the dealers section :)
