Iam planning for a slight GPU upgrade. The system configuration is as given in the siggy & the resolution i play is 1680x1080. I was planning for a HD5670 512MB DDR5 or GT240 512MB DDR5, but locally only GT240 1GB DDR3 (5.1K+tax) & HD5670 1GB DDR5 (6.4K+tax) is available. The card won't be used for a long time, just need it for a month or so. I would be mostly playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Ofcourse the HD5670 is a better performer among, but my question is whether its worth the extra 1.3K?

I need a buying advise real quick, coz i'll be going out to buy it today evening..
The HD 5670 obviously is a better choice..its not just better than the GT240..but will have a better resale value too..if you plan on selling it after a month..
but at that price..its a big no...
why dont you buy online..or try to find a second hand HD 5670..
Dont buy anything more than that..you will have to upgrade your PSU for that..

how much can i pay for a brand new ATI sapphire hd 4850 1gb or 512MB versions.
Also is it enough to max out in max games.
i dont much care about dx11 feature so what do you think about HD 4850.

hey ragzdiablo you told me to go for a ati raedon 5670 hd, bt i seen the reviews , they say it isnt that good plus i called a shop @ laminghton in bombay they told me the price 6.4k.. where as my budget is only 6k.!!

My current config is

amd 3800++

3gb ddr2

psu is a ibal one i dont knw the voltage.!

Which reviews have you seen?
It is the best card in its budget..

Its slightly slower than the 9800gt..
but that sort of performance at ~5k..
totally VFM..

Go to some other shop and check the price for the same..
it should be around 5.2k

They must be quoting the price of the 1GB ones. Check with TE dealers such as TheITWares(Has a shop called E-lounge in Lammy) and Mediahome(delhi based). Price of the 512MB is 5-5.2k. Better change ur PSU too. Get an entry level unit like the FSP SAGAII 350w ~ 1.5k

HD 4850 is a good card..
better than the HD 5670..

If you can invest 2k for a FSP 400w or gigabyte superb 460(it is also 400w)..
then you can go with the HD 4850..it will be more than 6k though..

The HD 5670 was launched early this year..In January i suppose..

GTS 250 was made to defeat the HD 4850..and it did..

costs more though.. :D
allright... then if i go for a nvidia gts 250.. hw much will a 512mb cost me.. and will i have to change my current 220volt psu.??

hey thats really nice, congrats.!! even my frnd has the same setup but he purchased it a year back.!!

GTS 250 is not a DX 11 card..
and yes its better than both 9800gt and 9500gt..

GTS250>HD4850>9800gt>HD5670>>>9500gt>8600gt..

I guess this explains you everything..
If you want to get a DX11 card..
and want decent setting at DX11 settings..
Get a HD 5770 ~9k
and a
FSP SAGA 400w ~2k

The HD 5770 is better than every card mentioned above..

If you want to stick to your budget of 6k for the gpu..
then a
GTS250 ~ 6.3k
and
FSP SAGA 400w ~ 2k is your best option..

First thing's first.. many congrats to ragzdiablo for starting this thread .. i have been looking helter skelter for advices for a graphics card and now i have found this awesome forum.. well now 2 tha issue @ hand .. ( argh! i did copy the template.. ya here it is)

What is your budget?: 7 - 7.5 K's

Current rig Specs: Errm. a really sad 1, nonetheless .. ASUS MX-M2N SE// AMD ATHLON X2 64 2.4 Ghz // 2 GB Transcend RAM // Generic CRT Monitor // 250 gigs of HDD (planning to upgrade shortly) //

Which PSU/SMPS will you be using?: Currently have iBall 400W (Default) , will buy Corsair VX 450 for the card//

Primary use?: Casual gaming/ Hardcore gaming

What resolution do you game on? with the integrated Nvidia 8150 on the motherboard was happy with 800x600 @ <30 fps but with the new card preferably >= 1280x1024 and >30 fps

Interested in Crossfire/SLI? Hmm.. One of my major concerns, i have a PCI-e 1.1 slot ( i do hope so) and im looking to buy a card supporting 2.0 .. will that: wont work at all/ hamper the card's performance?

Open to both Nvidia/ATI?: Preferably the red brigade.. have my eyes on Alpha Tango india , Hotel Delta 5-6-7-0 ( Ati HD 4670 :p ..DX 11 for future proofing ) and will XFX be the best?

And where to get the best deal @ nehru place?

Kindly advice.

ok
first things first
your cpu and psu are both terribly underpowered
you have got to get a good psu like fsp saga II 400 or gigabyte superb 460 @2.2k
if you don't want to change your processor,
anything above 9600gt would be bottlenecked by the cpu

considering you are going to change your proccy,
i will suggest
Amd athlon II x3 435@3.5k
Sapphire HD5670 512MB @5.2k
Fsp SAGA II 400w@2k
total damages close to 10k this should be fairly future proof system overhaul

else if you dont want to change your processor and are short on cash,
go for Powercolor HD4670 512MB@3.5k(since 5670 would be held back by the proccy)
FSP saga II 350w@1.5k
total damages 5k, but not at all futureproof

@Apocalypse: There will be a performance hit when you use a PCI-E 2.0 GPU on a PCI-E 1.1 but nothing significant.

1280x1024 is a relatively "light" resolution considering the CPU also shares some of the load of the GPU in the lower resolutions...And considering your specs, well...

@Funky: He would have to change the mobo too, since its an AM2 board. Athlon II doesn't run on AM2. :p

Add another 4-5k for the mobo and for 15k you get a fairly futureproof system.
