Hack to use microSD and SIM simultaneously in hybrid slot

no no, jio just needs to be set as the default data sim. why dont you try putting jio in slot 2 and set it as default and check? before doing the hack.[DOUBLEPOST=1476536678][/DOUBLEPOST]

Lol now i'm wondering what if my sim dies, or for whatever reason i need to separate the sim and microsd. This superglue has stuck TOO well. Should have used a softer adhesive maybe, but most of the rubber based ones are solvent based and could damage either surface. Maybe plain old fevicol is a good option.
My sim 2 slot has my main Sim which I'm more afraid of performing the hack on, so better is sim 1 remains Jio which I can waste. If you ever want to separate the sim from the microsd then pour some isopropyl on that area, do not put the whole microsd in isopropyl, don't know how it can effect the microsd, just pour it on the glued area and insert the blade in between both (sim and microsd) go in perpendicular action.

According to this page, acetone dissolved the sim but did nothing to the microsd. So maybe the plastic is different. And alcohol is weaker than acetone. But the big problem is when we used the alcohol on the sim, only the outer edge had the glue to be dissolved. Now the entire sim chip area, even the center is superglued. And there is no way the alcohol will penetrate that deep.

well, you'll find a way to remove it once you require to remove it, there's always a way for everything.

On miui 8, 2nd sim+microsd is working fine. 1st sim is in other phone, haven't tried with both sims yet, but it should work.

My biggest problem right now is miui 8 doesn't allow disabling of system apps, and i cant even login to my google account without disabling hangouts first. seems need to unlock BL, flash twrp and root for this. I root my devices anyway, but it's a convoluted process and miui forums are full of so much crap. why cant they keep things clean like xda...

IPA won't dissolve the plastic but acetone will. Hint: IPA (-diluted) is sold in plastic bottles and the nail polish remover in glass ones.

Anyway, that superglue layer must've been very thin... one~five minute glues are quite brittle when dried. Just use a razor blade to separate the SIM and SD card. You can experiment the technique on scrap plastic, like a ruler.

Something funny: the 'Surgilclin' i bought has no mention of the concentration, and neither did the pharmacist know.

I've noticed that with some kinds of plastics, cyanoacrylate has a solvent action and kind of welds surfaces together. When my first attempt using feviquick didn't work, the layer on the sim IC came off easily with a earbud dipped in alcohol, but the one on the microsd looked almost fused to it. I was able to scrape it off with some effort using the blunt back end of my tweezers. And yeah, after i stuck the two cards using superglue gel, a vernier test didn't show any increase in thickness (two decimal points).

Anyway, i don't plan to remove it just yet, but just trying to gather info and keep in this thread while it's still warm.[DOUBLEPOST=1476562382][/DOUBLEPOST]@paarkhi did you try using the jio sim in slot 2 yet ?

It was maybe a week or two old after opening, kept in the fridge. I first used two small dots on either end of the rectangle shaped sim chip. It didn't stick. I then used a thin line down the middle, even that didn't stick. It would stick to the microsd but not the sim. I've noticed years ago, a quality difference between indian superglue and even chinese imported ones. maybe that's it.

In hindsight, maybe i shoulda used a little less of the gel, it stuck TOO well.

the one you ultimately used is 100% cyanoacrylate. indian version is shady (contains curing inhibitors to give more adjustment time).

cyanoacrylate shows maximum strength in wider and thinner layers (as thin as 0.2mm).

also, it needs to be stored away from moisture. it cures/polymerizes from the moisture in the air. therefore, big blobs of CA don't work well as the core never cures. to prolong its shelf life, better store it in airtight bag/container with a desiccant pouch.

I know CA cures using moisture, not pressure/heat/air as some people think. I remember reading in the instructions to store in the fridge somewhere. So i've been doing that for a while now. Has never dried out in the fridge even after a long time. But the airtight container with silica gel is a great idea.

I actually got the gel to stick together my bike's taillight after i cracked it open to fix some dead LEDs. I needed to be able to draw a long intricate line of the stuff, without it drying, dripping or running and the gel was perfect for it. However i didn't factor in that the fumes released had nowhere to go once the taillight was sealed and they proceeded to deposit on the transparent plastic and make it whitish. I needed a glue that would set in a few minutes at most because i had no way of keeping it clamped tight, like for araldite, but have no idea what would cure so quick without releasing fumes.

^^ Those taillights were most probably acrylic or PET, which CA happily eats away. CA melts the material and turns to opaque white in this case. Plastics such as acrylic, poly-carbonate, PET etc need to be 'fused' together. You need some kind of 'solvent cement' to melt and fuse the stuff back to it's original form.

I am sure the SIM and SD cards are made of different type/grade of plastics and you might've melted one of them with CA :D. If you happen to separate them later on, share your findings.

I think they are acrylic, or could be polycarbonate. The problem is not with the fusing together, that went just fine. The issue is the fumes released. And like the CSIs use, god forbid any fingerprints on the surface exposed to the fumes. You will get permanent white fingerprint marks on them. I learnt this the hard way when i made an acrylic knife holder for my kitchen.

I'm really apprehensive about trying to separate the sim and microsd, as long as the sim is working, i can get a new sim easily, get it activated by sms, and then destroying the old sim won't matter. But since it stuck better to the sd than the sim the first time, i'm afraid it'll just rip the outer plastic layer off, and probably damage the circuit too. And this is an expensive 128gb, but it was the thinnest, so...

I just ended up ordering the 128GB Mi MAX. Although I might not be using 2 SIMs, I can always put the 128GB card in the discrete OTG I have and transfer data between phone and card easily when using 2 SIMs.
