Have r/India always been like this?

But here what the allies say is more important than the opposition.
If opposition is capable of influencing people and bring their opinion to fore, such activities can influence policy making.
Reason why you are not impressed by current opposition is because people even forgot what and how an opposition should work.
Hence your samples from other countries and their politics.

How well is it working in Israel?

Opposition there is only interested in toppling the government and pushes for policies that will make Israel lose the war.

Then blame government for losing, get the media to amplify the message and if not Likud then Bibi will be gone at the next elections.

Ever thought how it's working or not working in India ?
Then blame government for losing, get the media to amplify the message
Only if the same happened in India for right reasons.

With the kind of performance by ruling leader of Israel, no wonder their opposition is desperate. Luckily, opposition there is not having much to do it seems, unlike locally here.

Answered you already here

It was worse in the past

This government has learnt its lessons well from their previous experiences.

Desperate because they can't win and when they do they can't hold on before a no confidence vote takes them out.

In the end its the people who decide. Political volatility is high over there. Five elections in as many years.
Luckily, opposition there is not having much to do it seems, unlike locally here.
Opposition there is much more visible. National strikes holding up traffic?

Now they are resorting to lawfare over there. That card has been played here already and thankfully failed. I'm referring to the SC exonerating Modi in 2012.

Everything collapsed after that because they aren't learning from their mistakes. They aren't offering a viable alternative and until that changes they will spend even more time being in the opposition.

It was worse in the past
If ruling party can change their perspective, so should opposition.
Past issues should be an excuse now, at least they should learn from history.
Again, does not address the sheer reality that opposition is ineffective as of now, not giving any hope to people whatever the reason.

I honestly don't understand their thought process.
It's a protest vote. They vote as a block as a show of strength to take them seriously the next time.

It's a win for the Israelis.

"They didn't vote for Trump because they believe Trump is the best candidate," Osama Siblani, publisher of The Arab American News, told Politico. "No, they voted for Trump because they want to punish the Democrats and Harris."

This happens often in France where people will vote for the extreme right just to punish the party they normally support.

What they're asking for isn't feasible. Regardless of the party there is bipartisan support to defend Israel.

The main reason dems didnt win was, because Kamala's policies werent really aligned with the left, and this is a problem Dems have had for decades, they might be all for freedom, liberalization or whatever but their policies still support corporates mainly, this disillusioned a lot of their voter base, and also a majority of dems didnt even turn out to vote
No progressives in Congress?
when their main selling point is increasing reservation quota, introducing reservation even in private jobs (look at Karnataka's bill, which thankfully wasnt passed), and adding even more reservation for the second highest majority in India, then you know all these idiots want is to come to power and thats about it, tho tbh there are some good people in Congress being hamstrung by the party policy and BJP is also regressing pretty fast
Where did I say I was for suppressing opinions/rights of minor party voters?
did you not imply it with your stance? that whatever the ruling party says is the official stance?
What I said or prefer is comments on whatever policy of the government in question in a positive and informative manner.

I don't pay attention to the opposition because I don't consider their views important. If I want valid criticisms they can be found among supporters who are the strictest judges.

Now if the opposition today becomes the government then I will follow them with the same preferences again. Ignoring the opposition no matter how tempting whatever they say.

I don't find too many people who can do that. They pick a side and stick with it forever. They only know to dance to a certain tune and fight in a certain way.
and that frankly is a pretty moronic stand, but then I get you, this is India, where Opposition only cares about freebies/relgious politics or whatever, but my point stands if you think Trump/Republicans speak the truth and what the opposition says is irrelevant
Just thinking out loud here - Why don't people who have been banned by other subs make their own India related sub? It's easy to make subs on reddit.
no traction, the reason the above mentioned subs are popular is because they have been around forever, and peeps engage in it for better or worse, even if you create a new sub, people just wont join it and it'll just die off, attempts have been made in the past in making an alternate sub, but unless you get users to participate in a big enough number, then its futile

counter point, what about America?
He's a proponent of increasing H1B's which conservatives in the US are opposing. And he does have other interests other than Tesla.

Maybe it's just a game to him, who knows what someone's motivations are when you have more money than a billion people combined.
Elon is just a ****ing idiot who's only interested in lining his own pockets. if justice in America actually worked, then he would have been hanged for treason a long time ago, and Trump would be getting diddled by hundreds of inmates every day
Oh, my dear goodness. Pakistan Bangladeshi people are also suffering from Nirmala Tai taxation and the failing infra of the country. I guess the Akhand Bharat plan is in motion.
if you cant really notice the state of the subreddit and think its fine, then you are frankly, an idiot, No one's here defending BJP, hell I'm pretty sure if you made a thread on taxation or BJP policies, most of us here would jump on that and rant against BJP, but tell me you dont see the juxtaposition of r/India self-proclaiming themselves of being liberals and yet heavily moderate/ban anyone who has a dissenting opinion? isnt Liberalization about having the freedom to speak their thoughts? isnt it about releasing the shackles of religion, and participating in rational debates? if you cant see the irony in the mods banning people, my point still stands

It's a myth that liberals are champions of free speech. Conservatives suppress opinions openly, liberals do it secretly.

In fact I would say, I prefer conservatives in this regard, at least they are frank about it.

Quick what does the P in UPA stand for?
did you not imply it with your stance? that whatever the ruling party says is the official stance?
What ruling party says is official. What opposition says is not. Why listen to then. And this does not stop opposition from saying whatever when they are unaccountable. I ignore them and encourage others to stick to what the party is saying and more importantly understanding what it is. Not so easy.
and that frankly is a pretty moronic stand
Why?
, but then I get you, this is India
It's been battle tested over five years now and applies worldwide. In terms of time management and sticking to what matters Its worked great.

Also allows to weed out opposition types by their stances.

Signal to noise ratio goes up

You got a better idea? Let's hear it.

but my point stands if you think Trump/Republicans speak the truth and what the opposition says is irrelevant
If I want to know what Trump is doing then I will follow Trump, media & social media either partial or neutral.

Now tell me why would any of those source lie about Trump's policy?

Obviously they won't. So for the purposes of this discussion and my intent it is perfectly acceptable.

Why is this is so hard to get. It's a simple formula I came up with which you can use anywhere to know who to follow and who to ignore. You don't need to live in the country concerned or even speak their language to get what's going on.
counter point, what about America?
You mean what is the state of democracy in America?

It's working just fine if Trump can be elected president TWICE with less than half the campaign budget of the other side.
Elon is just a ****ing idiot who's only interested in lining his own pockets. if justice in America actually worked, then he would have been hanged for treason a long time ago, and Trump would be getting diddled by hundreds of inmates every day
Yeah if you were in charge you mean.

I have never spent time on reddit. I've preferred forums and over ten years now.

You will not get any stupid kiddie moderators there. Bring your A game though or you will get shot down

"Scratch a Liberal and a Fascist Bleeds..."
There is a theory on power by Wilfred Pareto.

He says that the society is divided in two: elites who rule and masses who are ruled.

Elites come from a distinct background and have different interests compared to the masses.

There are two types of Elites: Lions and Foxes.

Lions rule with might and strength: symbolising conservatives.

Foxes rule with cunningness, giving the illusion that they come from the masses when they don’t: representing liberals.

Power keeps exchanging hands between the foxes and lions. He calls it Circulation of Elites.

But at the end of the day, Elites are distinct group of people and have little to no concern for substantive needs of the masses.

His ideas have many flaws and have been criticised severely by from Marxists to Pluralists (liberals) to Structural-Functionalist (Conservatives).

I see at the liberal and conservative debate and can’t help but feel the relevance of this idea.
