any suggestions for a 46inch 3d lcd/led tv?????????????????
You will need to provide more specifications on your usage. If you are going to use it mainly for 3D, the panasonic VT20D (plasma models) are the best ones available. If your usage is more for 2D and occasional 3D, then you have choice in LCD - Sony HX800, Samsung C750, LED - NX710, Samsung C7000 and above, LG LX9500. Since most of these will come with 3D package, based on your needs, you will need to make the choice. Models with local dimming will have lesser crosstalk phenomenon when displaying 3D. In general for 3D, I would follow this - 1) plasma > 2) Full Array LED w local dimming> 3) Edge Lit LED w local dimming> 4) Full Array LED w/o local dimming> 5) Edge Lit LED w/o local dimming> 6) CCFL LCD.

1) Panasonic VT20D
3) Sony HX800, Samsung C8000, Sony NX710
5) Samsung C7000
6) C750

Available budget will also play a part in your selection :) Prices will decrease in the same order as above.

Guys, buying a new HDTV this month.

Thinking about these models from Samsung.

1. LED TV - 46" C6900 (120hz) - seems like the best non-3D high end LED TV at the moment.

2. LED TV - 46" C5000 (60hz) - im worried if ill be losing out on the 120hz.

3. LCD TV - 46 " C650 (120 hz) - Is getting an LED worth the premium we pay for? should i go ahead with this one and save some dough ?

I've read here that samsung LCD TVs (C530,C550,C650 etc) have great and sometimes not so great PVA panels ..What kind of panels do LEDs have?

Budget :1L

Usage : SD and Few HD channels,PS3,1080p/720p Bluray-rips.

Viewing distance : 9-10 feet.

Most LED TVs from Samsung uses the SPVA panels although I maybe wrong here but I am yet to see others in the LED segment. If you have the money to shell out for an LED display, get it by all means. LED backlit TVs with local dimming is several notches ahead of the ccfl backlit panels in terms of the PQ. As for the motion interpolation, I'd advise you to see a panel in person and judge it yourself by turning Auto MotioPlus on/off. All the displays you have listed are top notch. If DLNA capability is not a concern, do take a look at the Sony 46EX710. It uses an ASV panel from Sharp, much better than the SPVA panel in terms of the black levels and PQ. :)

Just wondering whether to splurge on a LCD. Please suggest an appropriate model so I can do further research on it :)

1. Budget. 30 - 35k

2. Viewing distance. 3' (for PC) 8 - 12' (for movies)

3. Sources/inputs such as HD DTH/consoles/stand-alone media players etc. HDMI from my PC. (Asus 780g board)

4. Preference for plasma TV/LCD TV/LED-LCD TV. Whatever works best as a monitor replacement.

5. Preference for brands. Not much. Would prefer to avoid AOC/Videocon/VU and similar :P

6. Willing to purchase it from the grey market? Only if its a really really good deal

7. Ambient lighting conditions of the room. Big window next to the monitor. Curtains do not completely block the light.

8. Any other feature you are looking for such as 3D support on the HDTV, DLNA capabilities etc. Nope.

Is the 32c530 the best choice? Or should I look into something else?

Yeah the C530 is the best bet. Besides, most 32 incher C530/C550s seem to have the SS/SQ panels so you might end up getting a SPVA panel. The C550, has an ethernet port so it will let you stream all the media from a netbook/PC/NAS - I am doing it this way with my panel. Some of the media failed to play on the PMS so switched it to Samsung's utility.

I am looking for a LCD TV with a budget of 30-35k

Some thoughts in mind are -

- I guess 32inches will be ok since viewing distance is less than 8 feet

- Need a Wall mount one

- LG samsung sony Panasonic preferred

- should have USB ports and HDMI ports.

- Full HD preferred more

Not caring of much of techies specs etc since it will be captured by my mom and sis most of the time for their serials.. :P

Plz guide for the best option.. Thanxx in advance.:)
Samsung LA32C530/C550. All 32 inch TVs do come with a wall mount so this should hardly be a concern.

Had sought advise earlier on LCD tellys...hadn't seen this. Sorry! So, here's a repost of sorts..

1. Budget: 38,000 (tweaked up)

2. Viewing distance: 8 to 10 ft

3. Sources/inputs: Tata Sky (Non-HD) DTH for sports and gen. entertainment, BluRay player (coming soon), random video off USB...

4. Preference: LCD TV

5. Preference for brands: Pretty open here...except that I find that Samsung is a lot more versatile in terms of video formats it plays. But, am willing to consider other brands

6. Willing to purchase it from the grey market?: Nope...not really.

7. Ambient lighting conditions of the room: One east facing window (with curtains) on a third-floor apartment, lit by a CFL lamp or tubelight...

8. Any other feature you are looking for such as 3D support on the HDTV, DLNA capabilities etc: Um...

The salesguy at Croma (Chennai) recommends a Samsung LA32C530 at Rs.37,990. Now, considering my usage, do I need to go in for a Full HD or will a HD Ready model do? And, considering that I watch a lot of sports, is the lack of 100Hz (it has a 50Hz) a problem? And, what am I not thinking of??? Heh...
You do need a full-HD display considering the world over is gradually switching over to full-HD displays as we speak. HD ready TVs are a thing of the past TBH.

The LA32C530 you have been quoted by the Croma, is vastly overpriced. You can browse through the pages on this thread to get a fair idea of the present retail pricing of this panel. It costs south of 35k.

As far as fast moving images are considered, some of them may be able to perceive this ghosting whereas some others may not. Your eyes would be the best tools to judge this quality and thus, I suggest you pay a visit to a showroom and see it in person. Why pay a premium for something you may not be intending to use?

I'd recommend the Samsung LA32C530/C550 for you. Alternately, the Sony 32EX400 is also good with no such panel lottery but limited to few media formats through the USB playback.

Since you are looking for a LCD primarily for gaming, check out the reviews to see the response time. If you are mainly using it for online gaming, then a small difference here and there in the response time matters a lot. Also AFAIK, the lottery issue in Samsung is restricted to lower end models and smaller size panels. But I might be wrong. If from reviews, you are able to shortlist a Samsung by any chance, need not bother..you can confirm the serial # from the dealer to confirm the panel type as they will have it stock. Sony uses SVPA panel and LG uses IPS panels where both have different areas in which it will excel. Sorry could not help much, but google will be your best friend for getting the response times (actual ones and not from the specs :D)
W.r.t. response time, I'll pitch in with my 2 cents here. I did connect my display (SPVA panel) to a friend's laptop and tried few games - Grid, COD: MW2 and MOH. There was hardly anything bothering me. Tried few Spec Ops missions as well and I could easily take down the Juggernauts. :P The only issue here was that the resolution had to be adjusted manually within the TV since I could notice the black bars on the borders but this is attributed to ATI GPUs, not a problem of the display.

The type of panel varies depending on the version number not serial number, not model number either. This cannot be verified by the dealer unless he is willing to break the seal and open the box.

Not all Sony displays use SPVA panels. Here is how the breakdown goes:

EX300/EX400/EX500 - SPVA panels from Sharp except the 37 inchers which uses the AMVA panel from AUO.

EX710 - ASV panels from Sharp except one model which uses a SPVA panel.

HX700/HX800 - SPVA panels.

NX800 - ASV panel.

@strategy: you query was answered in the other thread. :)

Re: HDTV buying advice thread

Has any one got any advice on this one Toshiba Regza 42RV600E 42" Full HD LCD TV. has it got a good panel. It is for 47k in ezone.

Re: HDTV buying advice thread

Thanks a lot, Desecrator...Bought the LA32C530.
Your advise really helped. I did look around for a better deal, and Shah's (Adyar, Chennai) had it on offer for 34,500 with an AirTel DTH thrown in. Bargained and got him to give it to me for 33k. Reasonable, you reckon?
Anyway, just had it delivered...Said installation would be done later today.
Once again, mate, thanks a lot...
Shall post first impressions ASAP...and perhaps some set-up questions...
Cheerio

You are absolutely correct. That's why I specifically mentioned online gaming. Any lag even in term of a few ms will give advantage to other players. This becomes obvious when the lag time moves in the range of 35-40 ms and above(like in case of few Samsung LCDs). But if its not for online gaming, then as you said it wont matter that much or may be not at all.

Thank you for that insight mate. Well, I know about the response time issue. I had actually waited for a whole 6 months before getting a top-notch gaming LCD & I am more than happy with my Dell 2209WA monitor... with e-IPS panel (Hybrod panel). Doesn't come cheap if you're in mumbai... but worth all the money with a 3 year warranty... Internationally this monitor has gained fame! But it will set you back by 24k. :)

Okay now coming back to the topic, I was suggested by a few other on another forum that I can demand for an SS & SQ samsung panel & most of the dealers know what version they have in stock.

1. My issue is, what if even after commitment, I still get a non-SPVA panel from Samsung? I can only confirm the version after opening the box & once that is done, I can't return it. :(

2. I have shortlisted Sony 40EX710, Sony 40HX800 & Samsung 40C6900VR. Does the 40" EX710 have a S-PVA panel?

3. What exactly do you mean by PQ w.r.t panels? I know about black levels.

My requirements:

Not interested in 3D TV but it's good to be future ready, besides that, till the end of this week (15th Nov 2010), I can get 40HX800 for 110k + 3D glasses as a Diwali offer at Chroma, Mumbai.

I'm a hardcore gamer, have a PS3. I like to play FPS/TPS/RPG/Strategy games

No one in my family is interested in sports. But I do watch a lot of holly/bollywood movies (all genres)

Max LCD size - 40" & Max Budget 110k

Not gonna connect my PC with the LED LCD... maybe browse the internet a bit. But internet is not really a necessity.. have the PC for that.

----Merged----

@Desecrator: Thank you for your reply. I do know about the Response time problems for fast paced games as I had researched quite a bit before buying a monitor. Finally got the Dell 2209WA when it was just launched. Was quite expensive, but it's a beauty & comes with a 3 year standard DELL replacement warranty... the hybrid e-IPS tech is brilliant! No lag what-so-ever when I play FPS games. :)

Oh well... coming to the point. I have short listed 3 LED Backlit LCD TV's. Could you suggest me which one is the best.

1. Sony 40" HX800

2. Sony 40" EX710

3. Samsung 40" C6900VR

[I omitted LG TV's & Sony 40" NX700 from my list due to not so great customer reviews on other forums].

My requirements:

Budget: Max 110k

Size: 40"

3D LED: Not a necessity, but it's good to be future ready if the picture quality is as good as the 2D LED TV's w.r.t Motion Blur & Contrast Ratios

Sports: None of my family members are inclined to sports

Movies: Yes... we all are hardcore movie buffs... all genres!

Gaming: Yes, I am a hardcore gamer & I prefer panels with less response times & minimal motion judder. I play mainly FPS & Strategy on my PC & PS3.

USB: Not a necessity that it plays DivX... Can get my hands on an external DivX player for 2-3k these days.

Internet: Not a necessity, but it's always good to have additional features.

Samsung TV's have a panel lottery. So I will only go for it if the panel version starts with SS or SQ. I don't know if Croma/Sony Mony [Mumbai] employees will have an idea of what version is being delivered from their warehouse. I'm just scared of getting a non-SPVA panel after commitment. I doubt I'll be able to get a replacement after I open the box.

I'm really very confused between these 3 TV's & need to buy them before the 15th of Nov as Diwali offers end. Please give me some suggestions. The 3D Sony 40HX800 is available at Croma at 110k + Free 3D glasses (Worth 3-5k).

@Desecrator or anybody, Can u plz answer my question? How is LG 32LD650? Detail Link -- LG 32 Inch Full HD Flat LCD TV - Model 32LD650 LCD

How much warranty does it carry?

Is it better to use this LCD TV as PC Monitor? Does it also support 1920*1080 or lower when connected to pc, although this is Full HD TV? It has got a VGA connector. How do the web surfing, gaming and Movies look on it? My viewing distance will be 3-5 feets as monitor.

The LCD packaging is pretty simple. If they have the required model in stock, the dealer can easily unpack it and you can verify the side/behind panel serial # sticker to verify it and repack it back. But if the item is shipping from their warehouse, then you wont have this option. Anyway, you can request the dealer. For an item priced 1.1L, its not out of the world for the customer to verify the item before he purchases it. I think the dealers will agree for it.

Re: HDTV buying advice thread

@jigar7 : i'd suggest the HX800 any day. After comparing loads of TV's over a 3/4 day period i've decided that the HX800 is one of the best TV's and beats some more expensive ones too.

I, however, dont know how much of an input lag it causes

Re: HDTV buying advice thread

Desecrator, it's an SQ02 panel...But the dude who came in for installation saw me check for that and said all of Samsung's 5 Series tellys came with SQ02. For real, you think?
Anyway, installation took some time...three full days after I took delivery!
So, am still getting to know it.
Shall post my first impressions soon...this evening, hopefully...
Cheers

Eventually inclined towards a 40 incher......

the best deal I could get is : SamSung: 40 inch C550 for 49K without exchange.

sounds good?

it is a good deal.

check what panel it is.

there is sticker behind right hand egde of the display.

version on the same will let you know about the panel.

if version starts with SQ or SS then you are in treat.

avoid if it starts with CN.

AA is still acceptable.

There is something not right about this:-
On specifications it lists the Response time as 2ms. Its a IPS Panel TV( not sure of the exact Panel,S/h/E). IPS panels have higher Response times than TN, TN panel Monitors nowadays have that low response time so there is something wrong there i think.
Otherwise on paper the Specifications look really good as its DLNa/Wireless enabled with Dolby Digital Decoder!
Dont focus on the contrast ratiosn & 200Mhz Tru motion parameters as those are only for show mostly :P

Re: HDTV buying advice thread

Thank u very much for the reply. Yeah I got what u mean. I was determined to buy dell u2311h but then this offer came by someone(official), @24000/- with 1 year warranty. We were planning to buy Samsung LED 3D TV next year for home, but my monitor went kaput and after getting this offer I decided to buy 1 LCD TV for myself, which is to be used as PC Monitor(main concern) for surfing, movies and games(AOE3).

The MRP of this TV locally is 38k but due to some body scratch I getting it for cheap. Is it a good buy?

Re: HDTV buying advice thread

I compared the LG LD650 (which i just bought) with the Samsung C650 and found both to be on par. The Trumotion of the LG however was inferior to the Samsung and SD picture quality was slightly poorer than the samsung (both the TV's were not calibrated) but HD picture quality was almost the same with the samsung again having a slight edge but the difference was much reduced and took me some time to find any difference.

The LG though had slightly better viewing angles and lesser input lag (both TV's were connected to the same source via an HDMI splitter). For sound, i'd give a slight edge to the LG for better highs since the samsung sounded a little muffled.
YMMV
