My requirements: Word processing, surfing, sometimes watching movies or playing light games when totally wella.

Screen size preferred: 10". EEEPC 904 seemed attractive too but that bezel around the screen seemed to kill it's looks.

Weight: <1.5 kg so that I can put it in my back pack.

Battery backup: > 5 hours. So should have 6 cell battery.

Hard drive: Nothing too particular here. Should be atleast 40 GB, SSD or the spinning one.

Upgradability: I will be upgrading the RAM to 2 GB. So it should allow this for sure. May even put the 7200 RPM laptop hard disk in it.

CPU: Intel Atom is preferable. But other suggestions are welcome too.

Connectivity: Wifi is important. Bluetooth is desirable but not necessary. I can surely live without it.

Colour: Some colour other than black is preferable but not necessary.

Budget is less than 25k.
If possible, also tell me the expected cost. Thanks in advance.

Thanks speedz. Earlier i was considering the EEE PC 904HA in the 9" screen category. But now in case i go for a 9" screen i will definately buy the aspire one instead. Will i be able to upgrade it to 2gb RAM and a 6 cell battery? And i would really appreciate some suggestions for the 10" screen too.
BTW, does the aspire one have that ugly margin around the screen like the 904 ha.
I am writing from my mobile phone so i can't see images.

Yes u can go for a battery upgrade..

For the ram its only upgradable to 1.5 gb.. but thats fair enuf fr a netbook..

As far as the margin is concerned i didn't see any fault in it in ma friends model.. but its personal choice so u shud chek it out urself..

if i was you. either i would buy a desktop or put in some more and buy a full laptop instead.

netbooks are good for browing for half an hr or an hr but after that it really becomes to use a small keyboard and screen.

I hope I don't face any such problem. I already have a Desktop at home. But I live in a hostel and only go home on weekends( It's 15 km from my hostel but I prefer staying in a hostel). I would rather buy a netbook and a Desktop rather than a Laptop. That's because laptops are neither mobile like a netbook nor powerful like Desktop. They are too heavy to carry around unless it is absolutely necessary. A netbook on the other can be carried around. It is "MOBILE".
You know I have been surfing on my Sony Ericsson K810i since the last 1 and a half hours. So I have amazing stamina when it comes to surfing :bleh:

Coming back to topic, I would really like some suggestions regarding the 10" screen model. Otherwise I think I will buy Aspire one only. EEEPC 904HA is out.
In 10" models I am considering Asus 1000HA or Wind u100( I don't know the price of the MSI one though). Don't know about any other UMPC's BTW.

Please guys I need more suggestions. I want to buy in this week.

I bought a lenovo s10.

pros:
lightest netbook
multitouch touchpad
expresscard slot

cons:
only 3 hrs batterylife (6cell not available in India)
no linux model

I should have bought the samsung nc10.

pros:
8hrs battery life
fullsize keyboard

cons
MRP 28k

Battery life is very important, after moblity...

I just need people to give me the names of possibles UMPC's I can buy. e.g., I can buy an Acer Aspire one. But By reading online reviews I won't know whether it's 9" screen is bearable or not. If not, will I have to buy a 10 incher? Unfortunately, these are not stocked in shops so I can't see them first hand.

Picked it up from Caddon, Koramangala, Bangalore for 24K. It was selling for 25K at Chroma. Prices have dropped since. ;)

I have previously owned Acer laptops: they have always been problematic. One had a dead motherboard. Apparently, this is a feature of Acer Laptops. Read Hardware Zone Singapore Forums for similar opinions! BTW, HWZ-Sg is a good place for netbook reviews: users there have already worked their way through eeepc, WIND and now the top dogs are lenovo and samsung.

Wind did not have bluetooth, Wifi g and n and the keyboard and hinges were a bit flimsy when I used my friend's U100 for a week.

Hope this helped.

Proton: thanks. Your views are helpful. Can ou also give me a link to the site you are telling about. And which is the net book you would suggest under my budget?

I'm looking to buy this in Dubai if the price is 20% less than that available here...or else will pick it up from here (Delhi)

Techie: i live in Chandigarh. The biggest shop i know about here is amarbir's lynx computers. He only has eeepc 1000h in stock which he is retailing for 27250. I will go to the samsung showroom to enquire about the samsung nc10. I don't think they will in will have it. Will i get it for less than 25k?
I am ready to get my stuff from delhi when i in there next week. But first i need to decide what i am going to buy.
