How to clean the inside of a washing machine and keep it that way

Ph test is for testing descaler is it ? It's fine am not gonna use it , since Lizol seems to pull up more dirt than i expected... With descaler i didn't see this at all.

Also particles didn't drain...am running rinse cycle again

pH test is to check if acidic, neutral or alkaline

Good

Right it just dissolves hard water deposits but leaves out the stuff that lizol got out

If you want to DIY a 2 in 1 cleaner. Add a little lizol to a container with little descaler in it.

Check if there is any reaction ie. Bubbles etc or nothing happens?

You're going to have to scoop it out.

Is there any smell in the tub after you finish the second rinse?

Repeat the same procedure tomorrow.

I fished them out , will run rinse cycle now and will repeat entire process tomorrow, thanks
No reaction at all

Presuming your Godrej descaler works. Just add it in with the Lizol whenever you do a tub clean.

Do you live in a hard water area
You see scale around your washbasin and pots?
Yes I do , earlier it was too much, now in my current place feels lesser than earlier , soap froths better here

Any idea why LG don't want us adding citric acid to the plastic drawer?

https://www.lg.com/uk/lg-experience/helpful-hints/how-to-clean-washing-machine/
I've never had any problems. It does not stay in contact with the tray for very long either. Once you add it and turn it on, it gets diluted and washes into the machine.

LG citric acid.jpg

And there is no need to do the highlighted part. I don't know who came up with this suggestion

Just add citric acid to the drawer and let it wash through as the water fills.

Comparable weight Vitamin C is expensive in India and by the looks of it needs 2x more than citric acid.

Why would you need to combine them when they both do the same job? No doubt it will work but citric acid alone is good enough

Some other points of interest

A self cleaning drain filter? That's a new one :hungry:

Vinegar damage.jpg

Why not mention that citric acid doesn't harm the rubber parts and should ideally be used in place of vinegar?

Epsom salts to sanitise the drum.jpg

Epsom salts is Magnesium Sulphate. Price is reasonable for a kilo. But you get the same effect with Lysol or Vanish.

Btw one cup is approx quarter kilo or quarter litre

Ckean a washing machine wuth vinegar.jpg
Note the quantity of vinegar. Around one litre or a full bottle. And quarter kilo of baking soda. Price of baking soda has reduced over the years if you want to use it. But I find it too weak in general.

With my LG front loader I cannot pause the machine for an hour like they said. The machine just empties out after say five minutes for some reason. The only way to get it to soak is by pulling the power for the required period.

@blr_p
I probably left some wet clothes in the machine and now the machine stinks badly , did a tub clean last month only what do you suggest to get rid of the smell ?
Have left the door open of machine from last 1 week but the smell wont die/
What is your update?

hey cleaned it today with lizol and 60% of the smell is gone but some is still there also did a tub clean before running a full cycle with lizol
You understand what's happening here right?

The smell is caused by bacteria & fungi which Lizol kills.

Run another cycle with Lizol and see what it does. You might need more cycles. You must repeat until the smell is completely gone.

That your machine started smelling just because you left the clothes wet in there just once means this problem was already building. And I'm not surprised because you do quick washes. You should do a tub clean monthly to maintain your machine. You can mix your Bosch descaler with Lizol. Once every three months and then the rest of the time just use Lizol.

should the lizol run be at some temp or normal water temp?

40 degrees is good enough. After all Lizol is supposed to sanitise floors with tap temperature water. That is why Lizol is ideal for top loaders. Technically you don't have to heat the water but then you have to let it soak for an hour or two.

You can try with 60 and see if it makes a difference. Higher temperatures speed up reaction and all that. I do everything at 60, laundry included.

Your experience is making me wonder whether it can be used as a quick test to see how dirty the machine really is.

That is, deliberately leave wet clothes in the machine for how many hours was it? Two hours, three hours or more

If the machine smells badly like yours then a proper deep clean is necessary otherwise not.

We can call it -- anmolbhard004's stink test in your honour

If it goes viral you will be world famous
