I actually only want to see the phone (or at least a dummy one). But frustratingly haven't been able to do so anywhere as yet.

BTW I think the price for the desire (official one) should drop soon (as I don't think the sales for these so far are as high as expected).
Even i was not able to find a shop which had at least a dummy model... Only few shops had the stock ready.. and many shops are not even aware that such a model has come out..

It's not a mass market handset and sales will be quite low since high end mobiles dont sell too many in India. Main sales for high end android devices are in markets which offer contracts. But I dont think htc will drop the handset price like nokia, considering hero was still selling for 19k even after legend was launched...

I just hope they stick to their launch dates...

Availability

The new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z will be broadly available through mobile operators and retailers across major European and Asian markets from October 2010 with the HTC Desire Z shipping in North America later this year.

Need desperate advice! am in love with the desire but i really wanna know if SLCD has any impact on the battery life of the phone. read somewhere, think it was engagdet that the slcd makes the battery life to just 5 hours. is that true?

1. You should just search on engadget to confirm.

2. I doubt it. Doesnt make much sense to launch a phone with a battery that lasts 5 hrs, does it? Min it has to go 10-12.

On the basis of my recent usage of the Desire, basically a full day's usage with maybe 5-10 calls (~30 minutes talktime), a LOT of WiFi (~6 hours), 10-15 minutes of gaming reduces my battery life from 100% in the morning to about 51% by the time I go to sleep. So it's neither fantastic, nor shabby. However, if I want to use this device as a portable movie player (e.g. while travelling), I might think about buying a spare battery, or at least carrying the charger around.

For better battery life, you have to do this, and it does work IMHO:

Official response from HTC RE: How to double battery Life (WORKS!) + 2nd Reply - xda-developers

To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double,

Hmmm... Interesting. So, that article which I read must have been bogus. I did check out the engadget article (thanks for the heads up techie_007!) and they say that the AMOLED was definitely the better bet.

I am still torn apart between the Desire and GalaxyS though, and this screen change doesn't make the choice any easier. :(
