That site mentions it as the "HTC Desire A8181". Is this the same? (also the price mentioned is 26.9K)
No Luck... the cheapest I could find in chennai is 27.2K only. Some stores say 28.4K :@:@

waiting for a few more weeks should bring the price down a little.

But no one has even a dummy model to show... leave alone a live one :@

Just a questions since many have htc desire here how much app memory is available for use. because i can be wrong but heard that its under 200mb

^ With Froyo (android 2.2) it will be practically unlimited due to the option of installing apps in memory cards but in Android 2.1, around 120MB free space is available for installation of apps.

I have foudn HTC top end phones to run far smoother than Motorola phones...any reason for this...I checked out one of the HTC phones in a shop recently and it seemed to run a lot smoother than my milestone.

I have still not put my sim card in it and started using it as a phone as I had to figure out how to get contacts out of my elcheapo nokia phone. I was finally able to do that yesterday. Now I am waiting for the invisible shield that's supposedly en route from the States, and only then would I want to take it out. I am too paranoid about scratches. So I will only write a review then!
Hey veb, now that you have got your guard and applied it, it's time to write a nice review ;);)
I would like to know more about how well the device is able to play different profiles of .avi and .mkv (with subtitles). I am particularly interested in audio/video sync as some have reported there is not proper sync. I am not able to find a good review of the rockplayerbase on desire, and it would be great if you can test and give your views on that..

And how does the phone feel after the 2.2 upgrade? Any improvement in battery life? how long is it lasting for you now?

True, Got my hands on Motorola Milestone today, Lagged terribly.

Damn screen protector is giving me a lot of problems - so still not using it as a phone! :( My life sucks!

After the 2.2 I didn't feel a huge difference, which is a credit to the device that even in 2.1 it was completely lag free (unlike what I saw in my first 10 minutes with the Galaxy S). In both 2.1 and 2.2 I have not faced even one instance of lag!! With 2.2 some sweet things have come up, most of which I am yet to check (chrome to phone, bluetooth voice search).

Battery life initially really had me worried, as the battery dropped some 15% while I played a game of sudoku!! Then I found this post, and the instructions there are heaven sent!! Now the battery life is waaaaaaaaaaaay better, though I am still to test it in the real world with a sim card. For everyone's convenience, here's the crux of what one needs to do:

To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well.

anyone having GPS issues ?
turn of " use wireless networks " inside location which is in settings , and then see if google maps/ navigation in 2.2 is working ?
i cant get a gps lock at all...
cheers guys
kind regards :)

I just cant seem to find this phone anywhere in Bangalore. Tried in a couple of shops (Croma, Sangeetha, The mobile store and a few others) and all of these said it would take a few more days to arrive. :(

I actually only want to see the phone (or at least a dummy one). But frustratingly haven't been able to do so anywhere as yet.

BTW I think the price for the desire (official one) should drop soon (as I don't think the sales for these so far are as high as expected).
