A Black Desire..... woooow that'll be cool...

Plus, if it is a legit place as many are saying, one would expect that they would not outrightly lie in a e-mail. Tomorrow if I buy the phone from them, and it turns out to be a grey piece, it could mean major problems for them.

HTC India got back saying the phone has indeed be launched..

Still there are no details on the HTC India site. Will probably go around this weekend and see if any dealer has any information.

Any updates from other cities??
 
Got a call from the dealer, he received the stock today. But a bit too late as I got my SGS yesterday :). So far, I am loving it!

Anyone who wants a desire in bangalore, can PM me, I'll give the name and number of the store.
 
^ nice! So it's in stock? Too bad you didn't wait though! But I am sure you will be more than happy with the Galaxy S. Btw can you confirm with your dealer what colour the HTC Desire is available in? Flipkart are repeatedly assuring me that it's in black and it's official and has Indian warranty from HTC India. They said they have even changed the image on their site to reflect the same. Also, please check whether it's an AMOLED screen or Super LCD.

Unfortunately neither dealer near my house has it in stock, and say that I should check next week.

Update2: The stock should be there in Delhi tonight or latest by Monday.

Yep, it's in stock and na, I don't feel bad about not waiting. SGS is lovely and the SAMOLED makes up for everything :). I will talk to him later and confirm about the color etc.
 
Screen is confirmed as SLCD.. Here's the response from HTC india

Now if someone can get a hands on, then we can know how the SLCD fares..... And there are really no specific info on battery life difference between AMOLED and SLCD.

And no info on the color of the device and the size of the SD card bundled with it... and the website shows Brown Desire.
 
^ Twebsite does shown the brown Desire, and moreover since that is what is sold in 95% of the world, that's what one would have imagined to be sold here, but this is what flipkart tells me:

I guess it's only a matter of a day or two now for us to find out, but if it is black in colour that would be sweet!
 
Saw the set box today ,Color is brown written on the box.It is SLCD . 2GB card inside the package itself. Everyone is quoting 27 K . :D .Which is big high :| .One dealer although mentioned that prices might come down in a week .
 
Today I went to some shops in Koramangla, Bangalore to check out the SGS and HTC Desire side-by-side. Unfortunately, the only store which had the Desire didn't let me open the sealed package unless i was going for a purchase immediately. Had good look at the (functional)Galaxy and I am quite let down by the build quality and large size of the phone. Hopefully I'll be able to find an unboxed Desire soon to do a proper comparison. Still the specs and stock offerings on the SGS make it a strong contender.

They quoted 28K for the SGS and 28.5k for the Desire, all taxes inclusive. Where can I get better prices in B'lore? The Desire's flipkart price seems to be pretty good.

It kinda sucks though. The Desire HD is getting launched in the UK just 20 days from now. India is six months behind the latest HTC release! :(

PDA Cafe at magrath road called up yesterday saying they got 20 HTC Desire's in brown color. Check with them for a quote. Don't think they're gonna quote any lower but still give a try.
 
Hmm...I think it's best to control my excitement and wait a week till some first-hand HTC Desire reports come out and the phone has better availability. The first thought that popped into my head when I saw the SGS was it looked like a cheap,shiny and gaudy toy. I am sure I'll like the HTC build quality and classier Sense UI better. The SLCD screen is an unknown quantity still, though. I plan to decide only after a side-by-side comparison.

I keep wondering why samsung made a stunning phone and put it in cheap plastic. Wave @ 17K beats the crap out of Galaxy lookwise and buildwise. The galaxy looks like a cheap chinese imitation of iPhone.

Going for the Desire or Galaxy, depends on the needs and what you are willing to compromise. even if you are ready to shell out 27k, you still have to compromise :no::no:

Sadly, that is the truth. Deciding between these phones is very difficult in terms of the overall package and neither is perfect.

I am actually not sure if I like the SAMOLED screen all that much though. My first impression was that it a tad too bright and too colorful. From reviews, one feels that the SLCD is definitely no slouch either...and it doesn't have the PenTile layout. Now once you take away the Galaxy's screen from the equation, the competition becomes more interesting :P
 
Even if you take out Samoled from equation, Galaxy S is still far ahead of Desire in terms of hardware like, better processor, much more powerful graphics card, bluetooth 3.0, Wireless N......etc. I guess it is always nice to go for the real thing i.e hardware than go for the packaging of desire.....but, to each his preference.
 
have been to jagdish market in hyderabad the best prices that i got for desire were....26.5k and 24.5k(grey)

Of course you are right about the hardware. But after being asked to pay 28K for a flagship phone I won't for a moment pretend that aesthetics and production quality are not important to me :P Now if someone makes a nice aftermarket battery cover for the Galaxy, my decision will be made easier. I really want to buy this phone but Samsung is making my life difficult with shoddy choices:(

Are these prices without VAT or all inclusive?
 
It's still not available in Delhi. The dealer I spoke to who was apparently going to get stock Friday evening is now saying Monday. btw HTC India had told me this on Friday too - that all their retailers should have stock on Monday. Let's see now - all in all someone in HTC India deserves a good walloping!!
 
Hmmm.... and here I was getting all optimistic that it was going to be the black model based on flipkart. :(
