The second Test pitch seems even "better" than Motera.
417/2 is phenomenal score on first day, perhaps not so much on Indian pitches.
At least it suited Indian batsmen. After Sehwag and Gambhir,
Dravid looks on his way to yet another hundred!

May be Sachin too :P

I think India should score around 650 and than should ask Srilanka to bat if they really want a result of this match or else its surely gonna be a draw

:D

* Most runs scored in a day by India

* This is the fourth Test in a row in which Gambhir has scored a century

* Gambhir's has now scored 7 centuries in his last 9 tests.

* This is a puny 100 by Sehwags record. His last 10 centuries have all been 150 plus.

Really hope Dravid gets to his century. That will get his ton tally to 28. He is one bloke who deserves to be in the 30 ton league.

People will stop watching test matches if they make such crappy pitches . Now India will score 600+ , then SL 700+ and a draw .

Pitch might turn in the last 2 days. This pitch appears to be in contrast to the last contest here btw india and S.A which ended in 3 days.

For the record, this is the 21st test match in Kanpur and there have been 12 draws and 8 results.

India has scored at such a fast pace, there really is no point declaring before 700(if they can), which would leave SL 500 to avoid follow on. You never know, a mountain of Indian runs followed by an early SL wicket might make the pitch look deadly for SL :P If the pitch cant get them, hopefully, the pressure will.

Problem is i cant recall but i guess last time when south africa was here and test match got over in 3 days because of being a total bowlers pitch....ANd than the curator was lambasted because the authorities had to refund for the last 2 days bringing lost to BCCI (and its obvious poor soul curator is kicked of livelihood)

Thats the reason Batsmen friendly pitches are created but sometimes the pitch dies so badly that in 4th or 5th day(for natural soil) it again becomes dangerous...so now they import soil from some other corner of the country and just nurture it so it remain batsmen friendly throughout and the soul save his a$#

My thesis :D

That pitch played like a day 5 track from the first day. There was some controversy about the Indians getting the pitch tailor made, so they could level the series and level they did.

Dont worry, that record is safe. India now 619/6. Dhoni out for 4.

Edit:

India lose last 6 wkts for 29 runs. Hopefully, thats a sign of things to come. Return of the bowlers perhaps :P

Edit: Dilshan out first ball. Not a great ball though...

There seems to be some slow turn for spinners. Hopefully, it would improve further tomorrow. But still, the pitch is pretty good for batting.

Slow turn doesnt help much ....the pich sucks .... what the hell were they thinking.......were they thinking at all before deciding on such a flat pitch ?

If a pitch is very good for batting in the first two days and becomes very good for bowling in the last 2 , its still bad since it means that the team getting to bat first has a huge advantage . The pitch should play evenly and players should perform well purely on skill not on the pith assisting them .

Pitch plays an important part in a test match, thats the beauty of test cricket. It tests player's ability to adjust to changing conditions. And great players and resolve can do wonderful things. Our team did that a year ago against AU and england by saving crucial games.
And 17 year old Sachin did that against England in England on final day in 1990.

If wicket plays true and same on all days, Test cricket will be even more boring with even more draws.

India doing very well in this Test match. Sreesanth has calmed down a little though, can't see his aggressive taunts anymore. All those fines and bans from BCCI has done that to him :(

cant wait to see SL go through a follow-on and a defeat by an innings and a couple of hundred runs :)

sorry a little too over-optimistic :)
