1) the next iphone will be a MAJOR revision -- thats a forgone conclusion. Given that apple have taken note of the disappointment from fans across the world.. the 4S was really just a v2 of the original 4. Besides, by mid 2012, the competition will increasingly tout LTE/NFC etc across the range & they have to not just play catch up.. they've got to raise the bar. Besides Apple are widely expected to release the new iphone earlier than they did this year & i think April-June is what they'd look at. So the current 4S really has a limited time to live & is all about maximizing the product lifecycle at minimum cost for Apple.

Which fans are dissapointed :)? Pre-orders have surpassed Iphone 4, and are way higher then any android devices. How can you say this is Iphone 4 v2? Apart from the screen, there were major hardware upgrades. Sure competitors have better "hardware" at the same prices, but does that translate in a better experience?

Well said....

I have kept away form Apple ..more so only form the iPhone as I was not sure about its hardware, software, jailbreak, and Unlock etc issues, but now after a few years, and using a few of my friends iPhones around, I am sold, it is not really about Apple's hardware, or software or anything, I just like the fact how they all seem to fit together to create the user experience. It is the simplicity of they way it gets its stuff done.....

There is no doubt as which platform gives the best experience, but I still feel the pinch shelling out more than 30k for a phone, feel 30-32k would be sweet spot, again its an iphone and they sell like hot cakes even at 35k range officially!

I love the iPhone for the only reason that it works excellent as a tool to make some quick bucks. I would never buy one for personal use, but would definitely deal in them because there is no dearth of people willing to shell out the moolah for it.

Quite a few.. until Steve Jobs demise (though untimely generally) was probably timely enough to have a lil bit of a pep up for the 4S.. When i say the 4S is a 4v2, why not? The reasons why it's a disappointment can be judged from the number of topics across major tech sites, i wont repeat them again. The hardware upgrades apart from the screen would arguably be what? the Camera and the Antenna?

The Camera - upped to keep pace with the competition (without changing the form factor so maximizing the product life cycle again)

The Antenna - something that shud have been "right" from the start in the original iphone 4 itself..

Bluetooth 4.0 - sure! awesome!

Processor - Yes. Significant upgrade -- then again.. they're playing catchup with the competition that pushed the limit already with the Dual Cores.. but yeah it was in my opinion the only big move up from the 4.

Improved battery life --- i wont comment on this one.

So there you have my reasons in a nutshell. Just like the 3G and the 3GS... its maximisation of minimal costs for a body/production design cycle over 2 years effectively..

Does this "upgrade" justify the premium pricing of the expected 38k?? Not to me.

Pricing of iPhone4S in India are expected to be 16GB at 35,500, 32GB at 41,900, 64GB at 47,900. iPhone 4 8GB at 30,000 & 3GS at Rs. 20,900.

looking carefully at the way Apple are playing the game.. anything above 33-35k for the iPhone 4S will be a waste in my opinion.

Reasons:
2) the current iphone 4 is not at all that bad so as to command a huge price revision/gap to the 4S.. the incremental features dont really make the 4S a must have. That's precisely why the 4S is a real waste if it's priced at a huge gap up to the original 4
3) the rising Android brigade is fast bringing newer bad ass handsets to the market at a rate that's fast pushing the limits of current mobile tech boundaries. Given that Samsung/LG/Motorola etc have multiple models across the range and have a faster development cycle that's not a "one launch" product a year funda.. it means that really speaking, the 4S will not rule the roost for long nor present any significant value for money attraction over even 1 full year.

Bottom line. In less than 5-6 months from now.. you're gonna get a whole lot of more stuff for your money at possibly lower price or equal to around 35k than you'd pay 36-38k now for the 4S

Who told you that apple listens to the fans?? they do what is right according to them for us.
And about NFC, BT 4.0 is a competing solution and already present on Macbooks, iMac .. so its just Apple

And the way Motorola/LG/HTC/Samsung are churning out new flagship models, we customers are getting screwed as it shortens the update life cycle of each new device with a brand new version released in 2 months.

And the newer handsets with more cores and double RAM still have a hard time beating browser benchmarks of iPhone 4S,its not just about hardware..

I would actually prefer all companies adopt a one year one flagship model, it would mean better support for customers.. exactly like apple does and more time for app developers as well to utilize the hardware of updated phones.

6 months rocks my boat . I think once prime comes S2 prices will drop IMO ( Just a assumption ) but then again I understand that buying a phone for 30K and In two months its 20K .

Nobody told me.. yet that doesnt mean to say that Apple are absolutely blind to feedback or reactions..

Nevertheless.. as i've stated.. its my opinion, and by that, all im saying is anything above 33k for the 4S (or 35k if you must).. is a waste for a phone that will have less than 7 months to go before it's out dated and is already physically a design that's over a year old.. that is only so much better than the original version and marginally ahead of its current competition.

The strategy of Android brands aside.

Benchmarks and UI issues aside (4 vs 4S).. these wont last long (precisely because the next one's gonna be better and faster anyway). All that i am saying is with respect to the price that Apple generally prices their phones here. (partner agreements/cuts/margins not withstanding)

Well said. The one year one phone cycle makes complete sense for any brand.
It gives their customers a sense of protection from becoming obsolete in 2 months!
Gives developers a chance to adjust to the hardware / software / api changes.
Let's the manufacturer push more incremental updates and iron out existing issues. (Talk about current gen androids and their niggling issues, mostly battery life)
Lowers production cost significantly thus benefiting consumers too.
And once the customer knows that there's a new phone around the corner after a year, upgrades are always more likely translating to more sales !

It's actually a win win for all !

I have used my Friends Iphone 4s for 3 days..Trust me there is hardly any difference Between the iphone 4 and 4s

Even the camera part is almost the same, hardly any processor Speed..

Keep both phones together both look identical in design ..

Who knws u holding a Iphone 4 or 4s in Your Hand

Siri ;)Soon is going to be hacked by Jailbreakers..

I guess u need to hold an iphone 4 for a longer period in ur hand to identify the difference aka u need to be a iphone user to identify the difference. The page is definitely smoother now and I do not get any screen hangs when I try to 'slide to unlock'; As per benchmarks done by Anandtech the iphone 4S processor though slower than samsung S2 beats the hell out of S2 in many areas:)

They have given a proper detailed review of the camera in iclarified.com. you can check it out there.

i agree that its a big disappointment to have the same design but a lot of things have changed under the hood. and apple have also dropped the prices of both 4 and 4s considerably.

iphone 4 32 GB was available in Australia for 1000$ and now post iphone 4S launch u get a iphone 4S 32 GB for 900$. its a great price for 4S (considering ppl got 4 32gb for 1k just weeks before the launch:))

Siri is already hacked ages ago:bleh:(read 2 weeks ago)...fully ported to iphone 4. but there are legal issues in using it as it uses apple servers in realtime.

hell SIRI now has been hacked to be used with any device. read below for more info:

@ destiny No difference between iphone 4 and 4s camera . Get ur eyes checked ASAP. The diff is massive, google for images u will be blow away by the image quality of 4S

For Android, it has become only bump in screen size is the real upgrade

IMHO in iPhone 4s they should have given either 3.8" or 4" screen. I have used friends SGS2, watching videos & web browsing awesome because of big screen. SGS2 cannot beat the design, craftmanship of iPhone. But yeah, Droid Razr & SE Arc are beautiful. And yeah, in battery of SGS2 sucks to the core compared to the iPhone.

I have to say here, being an Android user [Nook Color] the user experience of iPhone is light years ahead & simply great. It just works.

I am not upgrading to i4S,
-I have iPhone 4 Indian version, so unless the upgrade is affordable for me [not more than 6k] I am not going for iPhone 4s.
-I want big screen. Not big tablet size, just 3.8" or 4".
-iPhone 4 is already faaast & I am happy with it.

but Siri ! She tempts me lot :(

iPhone 4S for people who have iPhone 3GS. And have enough moolah to upgrade from iPhone 4 :P

I want to order 4s can anyone tell me where to get it cheap?

I am not aware if unlocking or jailbreak is available for the 4S, however, getting it from the US through a friend or relative there still is the best option. Many people are taking it as part of their upgrade option.
