Iphone or Logitech z550i Digital from US

HI,
My bro is coming down from US,

just wanted to check which would be a better choice to get from US

1, Iphone 16Gb( around 20,000)
2.Logitech z550i Digital speakers(around 10,000)

i wanted to go with the speakers since they are 19000 in india, but got to know that they are really heavy(28 kgs), so he might not be able to get it along so he has to ship it before he leaves, could somebody tell me how much apporximate can a person carry in luggage and also the shipping cost from us to india,

or just chuck the above and get an iphone??

If he is traveling by economy class then the baggage allowance is 44lbs = 20kgs

Plus if he plans to walk to through the green channel of the customs with the huge speaker carton....then forget about it....cuz people carrying huge box cartons are primary target of custom officers and he will be surely asked to cough up money.

Shipping cost from US to India + the Customs Duty on the package will kill you...wouldn't recommend it.

My recommendation is that you stick to the iPhone. Also, a point to note is that the iPhone 16GB cost is $499. But that does not include the taxes. So when your brother buys the Phone in the US its going to cost him much more than $499. The sales tax varies from state to state...so it all depends on where your brother is buying the phones from. I recently bought the 16GB iPhone in the state of NY and it cost $499.99 + Tax $41.79 ---> $541.78 ---> approx Rs. 21,670/-

Infact its actually 23kg x 2. You are okay with a single heavier package as long as it doesnt exceed 32kg.

Not really an issue. As long as you have the original sales receipt stating its below Rs2500 (~600$), you are free to go without paying a penny of customs.

True... the state tax must be added to the cost of the Iphone. Varies between 8-10%. Certain states like oregon are tax free.

My personal opinion is that the z5500 is a sad speaker. Not worth spending money on. The only thing it has in plenty is a lot of Boom. Rest is upto you.
 
went to the times audio video revolution ib bangalore. they were quoting 21K for the speakers, i might get for 19 or something for grey, which again is nowhere closer to say compared to newegg

my bro is coming from new jersey, any idea about the tax in Nj?
