Jio to Launch 5G on Aug 15

I don't think India wide launch would make sense for Jio, not a lot of 5G phones atm, only in metros best case scenarios.

Just a simple question , do we need to change the sim to a new sim for getting 5g services , or will the old sim work , depending on the penetration of 5g services i would be very sceptical regarding the rollout of 5g services in different metros of india .

No sim change needed.

Airtel launching 5G by the August month end.

Indian 5G is developed in India and it's a repurposed existing 4G infrastructure instead of creating dedicated infra like everywhere else in the world.

Whats the point of 5G though? Jio is slower than BSNL 3G in my neck of the woods.
Some of the pockets are so overloaded that they can't even go at 1Mbps. At my residence, Jio used to be terrible so I MNP'd to Airtel, later roles reversed so I've been switching between Jio & airtel as & when one gets too terrible to carry (switched at least 4 times, to & fro in last 4 years)
As of today, both Jio & Airtel are completely crapped out with Jio being marginally better. I used to manage better speeds by band locking adventure on my rooted OP5 but such enthusiasm for adventure has taken a backseat in the face of this permanent struggle against such a trivial issue that just isn't being improved. Numerous complaints, ZERO resolution.

I hope they will have some shame not to let 5G drop to EDGE speeds & at least keep 3G speeds going. That's the only thing that I'm hoping!

If govt. orders to set standards, can bsnl meet those standards ?
What about bsnl 4g ? /s
Never mind, since govts. have no business running businesses, its all fine.

Vodafone Idea is BSNL v2, but I suppose Airtel and Jio have to announce 5G services for marketing, more than anything else. Coverage will be extremely limited but if you are an early adopter, you will probably at least get good speeds initially, though I suppose they might set some ridiculous data caps.

Standalone 5G does not work with 4G SIM cards but unlikely anyone will implement that in India.

You say this when government is the largest stakeholder of Vi. As if mismanagement of BSNL and MTNL was not enough. Guess it will be privatized and sold to Jio soon enough for peanuts.

Wouldn't mind. Better than using 1.5lac crore of tax payer funds to resurrect it

And the govt has strong stance against freebies.

It is inevitable, but you got to question why the government had to buy into Vi as well, after basically killing it off with spectrum debts.
I think it was unethically fine imposed by govt of India on vodafone because it didn't get a slice of vodafone-hutch takeover. Later it was turned into shares when govt lost in the court. I could be wrong though.

But in any case, our tax money is being wasted.
