Instead of installing MDV, first try reinstalling Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 afresh...

But distro hopping is fun, go ahead and try a few others before deciding which to settle on :D I'd say narrow your choices down to Ubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora and openSUSE.

Yes it is working now, although I feel that this version is slightly sluggish. Will try with what you have told me for compiz effects.

Sluggish feeling may be due to non accelerated video drivers. How did your attempt to install ATI's fglrx driver go?

Darkstar, what I meant to say was that the linux installation was done in the c drive with the existing vista os using the disk partition software available in vista.

Vishalrao, will try what you have told me with the intrepid ibex version before trying any other distro. Haven't tried the solution for the compiz fusion yet. In office now ;)

If you are having trouble installing drivers for your ATI card, I believe if you download and install Automatrix, it will install it for you. I agree that if you can try to figure it out on your own, you will benefit from it as installation will most likely be a similar process in most Linux distros (unless there is a preinstalled or built in option)

You could also check synaptic manager in Ubuntu to see if there is a version you can install from there.....it would also be pretty easy for you.
