the dude is pretty much sold on surround .... give him what he wants... its a lost cause trying to give him the best

not like that buddy, actually I like music only, but I thought if with a little bit compromise with music, I can get a movie with surround on weekend. thats it.
this is the only reason why i was stressing on surround.

But if there is no such combination, then I'll go for MX.....
But shall i be sure it is the best one for music in this budget.

how about an unorthodox solution?

get an MX for the front channels and a cheaper 2.1 for the rest of the money to cover the surround aspect. if you get a 2.1, you'd be getting in effect s 4.2 system :eek:hyeah: you will miss the center , but if you are gonna be keeping your front speakers on the desktop itself, you wont be missing much

wot say pple :D

as long as the cheaper 2.1's remain in surround duty, there wouldnt be much panning loss due to the non matched front and rears.

and yes , as far as i know , at this point , the MX is *unbeatable*

Only he has to find a DVD player which supports 4.0 I don't know of any.

^^ name of thread... i dont think it will any trouble setting the output to quadraphonic in windows :eek:hyeah:

i've yet to see 4.1 speakers with 4.1 inputs :bleh:

OT and n00b alert:::::::Is is possible to add the MX 5021, an MX 5020 and a seperate centre speaker to get a 5.1 surround setup???

nope .. it will work on the bass from the front channels.
if you have a seperate LFE channel in your source(say DTS or AC3), you might want to send it to the fronts :)

hey that IS AN IDEA! the MX 5020 seems to be made of the same stuff as the 21... might be the closest you could get to a matched rear :)

EDIT: but wiring them up as rears is gonna be a bit of a headache tho!(wires prolly wont be long enough)

Heres an idea.......Get a pair of MX5021, and 2 pairs of MX5020. Use theatertek for playing DVDs. Set it to 5.0 channels, and use its bass management to route the lfe to the front speakers.

before i decided to get mine speakers custom made, i was pretty much sure about making something like that out of a pair of creative inspire 4.1's rather than shell out 12K for the crappy inspire 7.1 they were sellling those days

btw, any idea how much an mx 5020 costs?

:D what i was thinking about...thanks a lot guys for the advice...reppin ya both. I've read somewhere that the FX speakers come with extra extension wires...how about the MX ?? Then there must be no issues with wirin up the rears...

the mx 5020 connectors arent the regular speaker connector variety... you might have to involve some wire surgery :D

also, since the 5020 is active, you'll either need to find a power socket near where you want to put the speakers , or run a power cable up to the speakers. also, you will need to run an extension to from the soundcard to the speaker input at line level

But can you explain this little more one more cheaper 2.1 system to get surround!!

Also I have posted a new thread for sound card.

Please help me out there also.
