Hey guys! The title says it all, but I'll elaborate so I can get the help that's needed.

I'm currently saving up to purchase a new workstation. My work requires me to open multiple tabs and browsers.

Most of the time, I have around 20 to 40 tabs open on Google Chrome. I have apps like WhatsApp, Slack, Skype, and Discord open.

I also have to go through a lot of emails, and in the background, music plays through apps like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

At the moment, I'm thinking about purchasing the M4 Mac Mini—probably the M4 Mac with 24GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, which will cost me around 95k after discounts.

Here's what my work requires me to do:
  1. Go through websites.
  2. Test websites.
  3. Research using apps like Google Analytics, Keywords, and Trends.
  4. Open Sheets and Docs (mostly through Microsoft Office and Google Docs).
  5. Create ad copies.
  6. Create banners or flyers through Canva and Adobe Express.
Before you suggest PCs, I already have a gaming PC with the following specs:
  • Intel i7 13700K
  • MSI Z790 Pro-A motherboard
  • 32GB (16GB x2) DDR5 CL32 6000MHz RAM (G.Skill)
  • 1TB S70 Adata NVMe Gen 4 SSD
  • MSI MPG A850G PCIe5 850W Power Supply
  • Asus RTX 3080 with Noctua cooling (It's the ASUS x Noctua 3080)
  • Corsair H150 RGB AIO
  • LianLi Lancool 216 White case
I barely use it because of electrical issues in our city, hence the new purchase. I'll be keeping this PC and giving it to my sister so she can use it for school and learn designing and web development.

Can you guys make suggestions? Will 24GB be enough for the work that I'll be doing? Should I look into the M4 pro? That would cost me around 140k after discounts.

Your existing pc seems capable enough, invest in a good ups and use the existing pc, this should handle the load..
If space is an issue (which I don't think should be) the. May look for other stuff.

Hi J!

Thank you for responding. I appreciate your feedback.

However, electricity outages in our city typically last between 2 to 4 hours when power cuts occur. During storms, these outages can extend from 8 to 24 hours.

I plan to upgrade my battery backup (inverter unit) soon, but this will only allow my family to use electricity during outages. If I run my PC on a UPS, it will provide power for around 30 minutes at most. Using the inverter extends this to 2 to 3 hours, but doing so would deplete the backup, leaving my family without electricity sooner.

This is why I'm exploring other options, such as switching to a Mac Mini, which consumes very little power. I believe its maximum usage is around 145 watts.

PS: I already have a Macbook Air M2, however it only has 8GB of ram.

I'm still doing everything you require on a 3rd gen intel desktop lol (and video editing on top of it, albeit it struggles with that at times). Your workload is not heavy or intensive one bit for the PC. As @JMak said keep the PC that you have and Imo your sister would be better off with a new macbook or mac mini instead.

I feel like this is just a troll thread to boost your message count honestly lol

How is this considered a troll thread when I'm genuinely trying to purchase a new workstation with low power consumption to maintain my workflow during power outages?

Apologies if it came off as a bit rude. It's just seems a bit ridiculous that you're considering dropping well over a lakh to do what is very very lightwork in my opinion. But hey who am I to judge.
If power outages are a huge issue then it would better for you to get a macbook. Connect it with a few external monitors and you have a decent workstation

You existing setup is already an overkill for the usage you mentioned.
Get gold of a good i5/ryzen 5 laptop and you are setup.

Or you could buy some tall tubular batteries for that inverter. Adding another one or two for about 14k for 160-180AH will power your entire house for much longer and you can use a small ups to keep your system powered.
Since you need another system for your sister anyway, you should first decide if you want the MAC OS or Windows. I dont know how well adobe works on mac.
If windows, then a r5 7600 or even a r7 7700x with high capacity ram like 2x48gb. ssds are pretty cheap which i dont know if the mac allows upgrades. You'll have to look that up.
But again, first, what OS do you want to use. If you want to use mac os, first thing, look up if the mac you want to buy and see if it allows upgradable storage. If not, you need to spend more to get the higher capacity one. That's a real limiter. (unless you have a NAS or something in which case the 512gb is enough)

Honestly, you need multiple monitors. Two minimum, maybe even 3. Focus your money on that.

You existing setup is already an overkill for the usage you mentioned.

This is probably the best bet. Maybe buy multiple monitors, a thunderbolt dock and an intel laptop and you are set. A monitor uses very little power, so adding it to your inverter should not be an issue.

Just an update: I ended up selling my MacBook and used the money to build a PC.

Here are the specs:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
Memory: 32GB (16GB x 2) 6000 MHz RAM
Motherboard: MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI
Power Supply: Corsair SF450 Platinum PSU
Storage: P3 Plus 500GB NVMe Gen4 SSD
Cooling: Arctic Freezer III 360mm AIO
Case: Asus AP201

Here's a pic:

The total build cost was around ₹69,000 (very niceee).

I have no plans to add a dedicated GPU to this PC as it's primarily a workstation. I want to keep the power consumption under 150 watts. I’m currently using the integrated GPU on a 1440p monitor running at 280Hz.

I might upgrade the RAM to 64GB (32GB x 2) in the future. Right now, with a medium workload, I’m using about 55-65% of the available RAM.

Thanks for all the feedback, it really helped me finalize my decision!

I'm also planning to upgrade the inverter system in January. I’m waiting for a good sale or some discounts.

Appreciate you guys. Thanks againnn!!
