Maria Sharapova doesn't know Sachin Tendulkar - do you care?

Why this controversy and confusion? Is Sachin aware of all legends of all important sports played in all other countries? Does, not knowing a sports legend reduce that sports personality's achievements?
So what's the big deal? Why do people think that just because someone recognizes more number of celebrities means he/she has higher IQ/GK?
This is a skewed up yardstick to measure someone's IQ.
How can someone say that a sportsperson must know legends of other sports

Lets put it this way.

Lets say you are the tennis champion in you city and you are also a big fan of Sachin and go to watch his matches. You know all about him, but if somebody asks whether Sachin whether he knows you? What would be say? You may be a big shot in your own circle, but as far as he is concerned, you are just another fan who came to watch his matches.

Now, Maria didn't know who Sachin was, but Sachin went to watch her matches. So, what does that tell you. :p

You mean to say Sachin is a big shot only in his circle (India?)
I hope you are kidding.

That circle isn't India, it's Cricket. And yes, it is small.

That's exactly what I was saying.

Cricket is an English origin sport which is known and played only by the English and additionally the so called "common wealth" countries which is just a nice sounding word to describe countries which were for a long length of time enslaved and ruled by the English as their colonies.

Countries like US where the British had colonies way back cares little for this sport because they got liberated before this sport became popular even among the British. People cannot except other countries to care or even know about this sport.

Just because Indians follow it like a religion doesn't mean that others have to know about it or who is good at this sport.

"Cricket is a game played by 11 fools and watched by 11,000 fools,"
- George Bernard Shaw
