Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2 - Discussion thread

^Abhay, what was Shepard's level when you completed the title? I hope the final boss battle or whatever it is, ain't hard! :ashamed:

Good thing - you played the first game before the second. I know a couple of idiots who tried it the other way around. The improvements in the second game make the whole experience so much better that transitioning from the second game to the first is gonna suck.

The final boss battle can be hard or pansy, depending on the weapons and mods you have stocked up. I had to learn that the hard way. So much for getting to know the RPG elements. :ashamed:

Welcome to my world. :bleh:
Can I ask
Which crew members died?

Jacob, Wrex, Samara, Mordin, Jack, Legion, Tali and entire Normandy Crew except Dr. Chakwas.
Fail?

Mine were between Level 51-54 in all my run through's. End boss (Saren) fight is not much of a challenge as long as you have equipped yourself and your crew wisely. You would face tougher challenges mid game.

Boy and I thought I was bad. Better pray that you get to pick a new crew in Mass Effect 3. :p

Anyway, I'll just copy-paste my Mass Effect 2 ending post, which I like to call the "The Mass Effect 2 Massacre"

Completed Mass Effect 2, but what a f*cking huge loss for my crew members. I screwed up big time I guess and it pisses me off. You know why?

I did every loyalty mission there is and still they died. WTF?

I didn't have enough Paragon points to end the dispute between Miranda & Jack, so I chose Miranda (for obvious reasons) over Jack. I lost Jack's loyalty and couldn't gain enough Paragon points till the end to re-gain her loyalty. I said f*ck it and move on.

As soon as I entered Omega 4 relay, the ship started taking a massive hit. I guess I should have upgraded the ship, but I didn't have enough resources for it. So the first one to fall was *drum roll* Jack. I said well that's OK, only lost one member. Later on, Tali got screwed as the engine room exploded. Next to go down (out of nowhere) was Thane.

So that's 3 crew members down in one cut-scene. WTH? Am I that bad a commander?

This didn't end here. Once on the collector ship, I sent Legion down the vent, since he is the AI expert. He died when trying to close the jammed door. This was infuriating for me, as I really admired his abilities. I felt extremely bad for all of them, except for Jack may be. Never has any game, since Fahrenheit and Kane and Lynch Dead Men, had a massive attachment to it's characters.

Rubbing salt to the wounds was the demise of Dr.Chakwas and the remaining crew. That was my own selfish decision to send them off alone, as I thought leaving some one behind to escort them would prove waste of strength.

So all in all I was reduced to a very small crew and 4 of my good team members died. F*CK! *sighs*

Well I'm sure Bioware should have some provision in store for half wits like me so I'm not too worried. Also, I do have a lot of saved games scattered throughout my 45 hour game session. So I can go back and save everyone if I feel like ... :)

The Jack and Miranda part was quite messed up for me too though. I chose Miranda too and didn't get Jack either, however I read guides later on and realized that if you chose Jack then you could heal the relationship with Miranda after sometime ... wtf

I'm considering myself very lucky I fully upgraded the ship. I thought it would only help the ship look better in the ship hologram on the command deck . You got one decision wrong and got Legion killed. I got all my decisions wrong and got most of my loyal team killed :(.

I think neither of us expected the game to be so punishing ....

Finally, completed it! :D

Leveled Shepard to 41. Got to play the romance visual with Ashley - boy that was pretty good!

Onto ME2 in the afternoon.

LOL... I guess you did not attempt all the quests. You would be near Level 50 otherwise.
The Romance dynamics in ME is pretty restrictive in some ways. You can only romance one person per play through and you don't even need to try for it. For instance, In one of my play through I wasn't even trying to romance and still both Liara and Ashley got into a fight over it and asked me to choose. Then there is Alpha Protocol which allows you to sleep with every girl in the game in a single play through as long as you choose the right replies. Dragon Age is much better in that it allows you to romance more than one person although you need to break up an existing relationship to continue further with it. Fable 2 too has a humorous take on romance and marriage in the game, For instance you can marry more than one person and they will fight over you when ever one sees you with the other. You will also get a quest where someone black mails you if have more than one spouse.

btw, Alpha protocol is a terribly underrated game and because of the poor reviews it seems many people completely have skipped it. Personally I think its 9/10 material. As far as stealth is concerned, its a much better game than Splinter Cell conviction and a decent TPS. The RPG style character level up and interaction elements as also pretty good.

^Ah so romance plays an important aspect in the RPG genre eh? Point noted! :D

Character leveling was pretty good. The only aspect I found bad was the map. No correct pointers were given. Esp. in the Citadel, I used to go bonkers at times. For instance, when we return back to the Citadel to meet Capt. Anderson after the control over Normandy is lost, I was searching him for the quarters in Flux when he was actually inside the pub! And there were no pointers leading to him.

And yeah, I did not do too much of side missions. There were plenty of them left. I concentrated more on the main missions. The final battle with Saren when he assumes the evil form was slightly hard since I had only Ashley and Garrus on my side. But yeah, I could beat him nevertheless.

Fired up Mass Effect 2 and boy, this game has everything that was missing in the first title. The cutscenes and the voice acting just got a whole lot better. Newer characters. Newer missions. Newer interface. Better map. Just completed the first level after the meeting with the Illusive Man and landed at the new place for exploration. :D

Did we leave Joker like that? :(

I'm sure they won't disappoint. I have preserved all my saves as well. I hope they let us carry our earlier saves over.

What the frack? seriously? I was a victim of Yvonne's...errr...Miranda's charm. :ashamed:

You at least looked after the ship, I didn't have enough resources to shield it properly in the final battle. I can't believe, all the side missions and loyalty missions went down the drain because of my one mistake. *sad*

Told ya... you wouldn't be able to stop yourself from playing 2 once you finish 1st. And now that you have started 2nd, you would wish you had more time to play(if you are not on a vacation :p).. I finished it on a weekend, but boy, that was a journey.. Did everything... Don't wanna spoil anything but just a little suggestion, " Do every possible mission in the game, even the smallest of side quest. "

Cutsecene after they manage to use the Omega 4 realy for the first time is super awesome. When the alien ship came to attack them again, i was like, Bring it on b**ches, bang bang bang :D, then there was the speech..

Totally agree... The game is so good man, i won't have time no more otherwise even I'd have played it once or twice more.. the game is playable atleast 3 times acc to me.

Wait a minute....Am I the only guy who chose the alien chick over Miranda?Come on guys the Tali was hot!!...Besides I was curious to see what was under that helmet of hers....:p .

My request for Mass Effect 3...More casual relationships and less commitment. That way you can try everything the ship offers.;)

And i was also I was very disappointed when the PA chick kelly Chambers randomly died for me when the reapers attacked. She used to flirt a lot even though you can't start a relationship with her

Few Questions before i start ME2

1. What the hell is that Paragon/Renegade thingy?

2. In almost entire game, my description was way too low. Why is that? I am at 45 level.

3. Is ME2 Collectors Edition available in the *ahem* world?

4.Is it better to continue with the same level from ME 1 ?

5. How can those Engineering class etc be made available?

^If I may answer:

1. Paragon and Renegade points indicate your morality towards others. i.e being good vs. evil. Depends on the dialogues and actions chosen during the course of the game. Surprising you did not know this! :p

2. Description too low? As in? I was at level 41 after completion of the first title fyi.

3. Cannot answer. Irrelevant question!

4. Yes, import your save files from ME 1 and ME 2 awards you with a bonus at the start of the game.

5. Start ME 2. You will know! ;)

ME 2>> ME 1. A lot of features have been refined and polished. Whatever went missing in ME 1 and you could ask for is present in ME 2. Get the game already!

I knew that. What i meant was, whats the use of it ? Is it required only for Leveling up or does it affect in the game in any way?

2. I meant decryption :p Sorry typo.. :p

It will give you extra/stronger dialogue options which helps you to resolve conflicts/take shortcuts...maintain loyalties...usually more XP and bonus to alignment
