well i was feeling bored , nothing to do then i thought why not share something with u guys
well recently i saw the movi "the shawshank redemption"
to say the least "I WAS MOVED"
this is a very low key movi , no tom hanks or spielberg to increase ur oscar expectations.it was nominated for 7 oscars won none(huge competition from forest gump and pulp fiction)
well now it is rated as top movie by user's choice garnering far more votes than even "the godfather"

a complete flop , its dvd came out o the market , people saw it.
its popularity began to rise with mouth to mouth publicity.
soon it ended up being highest rated film by viewers.
90% of viewers who see this end up putting it on top in their own top10 list of all time.
and all of them recommend movie.

it is about two improsoned guys bonding over a lenght of time.
two actors relatively unknown(at that time) in tim robbins and morgan freeman and a
completely unknown director in frenchman called by name darabont.
it is based on a short novella by Stephen king.
it is one of those rare movies which are better than literary work they are based upon.
direction->
this unknown darabont guy is actually a genius.
camera angles , viewpoints and slow camera movements provide an xlent perspective to viewer. some of the scenes in this movies are immense work of art.
like in an early scene when andy is in a prison wan van coming to the prison , viewing angle is taken from top moving with the wan(using helicopter or something).
then glorious view of shawshank prison is provided. as we move above , on top of prison building , van fades out of scene to the side.
then behind the prison , prisoners are seen gathering in view of arrival of new prisoners.
BUT here is a caveat. how was this scene taken?
on a helicopter-> i doubt that because in the end the camera passes besides a furling flag which is apparantly not disturbed in its direction or something by immense helicopter winds.
the scenes in the end are equally glorious.(i wont list all of them as it will be too many spoilers)
story->
andy(tim) is convicted(falsely)for murder for both his wife and lover.
he comes to this shawshank prison.
his introduction to prison staff is equally good.
warden norton assembles them for a brief intro and tels them "put ur trust in the lord , but ur ass belongs to me" ---WOW!
soon the friendship between andy and RED begins to flourish.but prison is too tough. some guys wanna get out , others wanna(who lost all hope) stay and die here only.
its a man's choice "get bizi living or get bizi dying"

comedy->
this movi is totally about intelligent sarcastic fun at appropriate places.
the interviews of RED ! , the bible etc.
theme->
well if i tell u the story , then whole fun of watching this movies is reduced.
the theme is about friendship and hope.
official tag line being "Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free"
wherever u are , u must never lose hope.
human will is the ultimate force in this world.

on a scale of 1 to 10 i give this movie 10.5
it is one of those movies which are seldom made.
when all the ingredients are just right to end up in a perfect dish(kinda like sholay)
it is a pinaccle of movie making.
