So here's my issue.

I just bought Rite's (TE member) MSI P55-GD65 and Intel i7 860 motherboard and CPU combo. Now, I am trying to boot the system, however, its not booting. I have not yet assembled it into a cabinet. I have kept this assembly on a non-conducting surface. I am using Corsair DDR3 1066 Value RAM's (2 x 2GB) and a Tagan 600-UG37 power supply all bought from Rahul at ItWares. Here's what happens.

I turn on the power and the keyboard light flashes. The graphic card fan and the CPU fan turn on. The OC Genie + and - buttons and the on board power button glow and only the LED 6 of the six phase LED's glow. The remaining five LED's remain unlit. The system turns on for maybe 2 seconds and then powers down and then turns on again and powers down going in to a cycle. I have to finally pull off the power plug to stop this. During all of this there are no beeps.

Troubleshooting steps taken so far:

1. Removed video card and memory modules and then booted. Same issue.

2. Checked and reinserted power connections. Same issue.

3, Checked with only one memory module in DIMM 1 slot. Same issue.

Things remaining to be checked.

1. Reseat the processor.

2. Check the 8-pin CPU supply and try either that or the 4-pin CPU supply.
Other than this, the only option is to RMA the board. But I am unsure what is causing this. So, it could be the CPU or the MB, but I have no way to check this as I do not have another 1156-pin board or CPU to check. So, I request fellow TE members to try and help me out on this, preferably members in Mumbai. If you can possibly volunteer to check my CPU on your mobo, and check your CPU on my mobo, it will be of great help to me. I know that I may be asking for too much, but I really don't know how to proceed forward.

Please help.

Thanks- 4nd3r50n :)

The system is in warranty, both the CPU and mobo, that's what Rite told me. But I didn't ask if there was a DOA warranty on the system. I guess, I just trusted that the system would work out of the box. :(

The same PSU is powering my older Core2Duo E6420 system with an Intel motherboard and 2GB of RAM. Also, the video card that I have is the Sapphire 4850 512MB. Not sure if knowing that would help anything. I have also searched on MSI forums and generally googled around. Users have either RMA'ed their board as a solution or the topics have always remained inconclusive.

That's what I want to do, but I really don't have access to another 1156-pin board or CPU that can help me properly diagnose where the issue is.

did you try resetting the BIOS by removing the BIOS battery?

also have you inserted the ram in the slot which is 2nd from the cpu?

Was this thing working with Rite..? Have you spoken to him about it..? Can you give the sales thread here.

It was working at my place. I had a talk with the op and he said that some pins in the motherboard socket have been bended due to change of packaging by dtdc nd transit. But I had got it insured for 13k thru dtdc. What to do now

^ read the rules now dtdc has apply that they has banned electrons part cause they dont ship with that why they are not responsible any-else so in indian country has lot of corruption about courier issue, even i got the board from dtdc but the board was not strange size and it was less curved full atx one :|

Which pins are bent, where exactly..? Probably he can try to get it repaired.

I have asked an acquaintance who has contacts at Lamington Road to see if the pins can be repaired. In the meanwhile, I am getting the CPU checked too. I will get to know the results by tomorrow. I am hoping that the CPU works. I was just hoping to get the system up and running. This has been a massive loss. :(

Did you ship the board with the protective socket cap? There is no way the pins would have got bent otherwise.

Socket cap as in this:

I don't recall this cover on the CPU socket although it was there in the motherboard box. :boxed:
I am at office right now so unable to post a pic of the bent pins. I will try and post a pic of the pins by evening today. I just hope that the board can be repaired.

If the cap was placed in the socket, it locks itself with the socket and unless you pull it out, it wouldn't come out. If it was found in the box, either someone has fiddled with the consignment or our TB forgot to keep the cap on the socket.

Either way, Prime ABGB repairs the socket for a nominal charge. Somewhere around 800-900 INR I've heard. Contact them and they can help you out.

If you can get it repaired in about a 1000 bucks or even 1500 bucks or so, don't worry about that. Just send me the bill and I will gladly pay for it. But please make sure that the bill isn't the maximum possible but the minimum possible :P

Thanks, Gannu. Excellent idea. I will get in touch with them :)
Rite, I really appreciate you trying to help me out, mate. Thanks :)

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Disappointing news...called up PrimeABGB. They can only fix Asus and Gigabyte motherboards as they have 'collborative' service centers. MSI is not collaborative and will not touch the motherboard as the pins are bent. So overall, no go. :(
