Mumbaiites: What's your electric bill like? (BEST/Rel/Tata)

That's got to be the dumbest thing i've ever heared.

I know it's the state's language, just like Hindi is the national language.

Why wasn't english replaced with hindi/marathi/whatever when the British left us? Why did i study 5 of of 6 subjects in English over these? Why is my written and spoken ability higher in English as compared to these languages?

What is the true value of knowing these languages in today's day and age?

Im not saying English in a country is necessary for progress, look at the Japanese/Koreans/Chinese, unlike us, they actually cared about their heritage, they didn't wake up one day after 60 or so years and decide to re-name cities and carry out BS propaganda just to confuse the hell out of people.

I'll be fine if they give people an option as to what language they want the bill in.

WTF? Why should a language replace another language? Why should English replace Marathi? Can't they coexist together? Or are you saying that Marathi ppl speak English, they should do all the conversations in English only?

You studied 5/6 subjects in English because that was your choice. You could have learnt those in French. What should be do about that? Why is your spoken and written ability higher in English as compared to these languages - the answer is simple - you are biased against them. Did you ever try to learn Marathi or any other language for that matter?

What is the true value of knowing these languages in today's day and age - well it's simple - YOU think that they are of no use - we think otherwise. We think preserving our language is most important thing to do. We love our language and are most proud of it. We think it's an integral part of our identity and an inseparable part of our culture.

And we didn't invent this propaganda now, we fought for Mumbai(which was no doubt truly ours) in 1960, 105 ppl lost their lives and then the state Maharashtra was created.

I have 100 more points to say but you know what really saddens me, the fact that most of the outsiders(I don't like this word) really hate Marathi and Maharashtrian culture. It's evident from posts like this. And you wonder why we hate you...

Abhi.

Gee, what a innocuous thread has turned into...

I think its best if people here act accordingly to the topic of the thread rather than going off topic. Irrespective of which language we know, I am sure we all can acknowledge that part. Or else people can either get a room and start a petty squabble over minor "differences" or they can open a new thread- provided it doesn't hurt other's sentiments.

I live in Bandra West and we have reliance energy. Before our bill was 2.2k 3 months ago and went as high as 3.7k pretty recently!

Nobody hates Marathi or Maharashtrian culture, but we all hate stupid antics like printing critical information in only 1 lang. And what we all hate is this sub-degeneration based on demographics, me, you and most of us are "indians" first, all of us have equal right to abode anywhere in India. What next, have further division of demographics, based on cities, areas, streets etc!!!

And most of the so called "cultural purist" are mad is not because of invasion of outside culture, but of de-generation of culture from within. And thats an irreversible solution, people are gonna change with time no matter if you are a Maharashtrian or South indian or etc.... Super imposing yourself is not gonna help the cause in anyways.

Mods...Please remove the OT posts from this Thread :)

b/w my Reliance bill didn't used go across 1200rs. with very shorter duration of A/C running on 24deg.

havent seen the bill since 10 months, though :)

sorry for this OT, but cooldude this is for your post, My post did not tend to hurt marathi speaking public, no no :)

u dont like marathi ?? whats that got to do

its almost sim to hindi and most of people from ssc board have no probs reding few char in marathi

sorry if u r migratant or diff board.. but i guess the sol is to print billls in dual language on same page or diff page

^^ I can read marathi, and born in mumbai, and not liking or liking it is my personal opinion, and yes it has nothing to do, just mentioned it. And your solution is all I wanted. It sounds good.

Well, that's the reason we don't like YOU. You don't like Marathi, don't come here. Why shouldn't the bills be in Marathi? Your only gripe can be if they don't come in English as well. I absolutely loathe the pricks like you who migrate to a state and don't respect(in fact hate) the local culture. And the funny thing Hindi and Marathi share the same script(Devnagari), if you know Hindi you shouldn't have a problem understanding/reading Marathi.

People bash MNS all the time, is your stance/attitude any different from them?

^^are you a nut, or a brick head. I am from mumbai, know and can read marathi.

Liking or disliking is not a concern unless you are otherwise, why should I expect you to like me, crzy prick.

besides what I stated was my personal opinion, and was not meant to be taken as a communial statement

or as against the community that speaks marathi with all respects. My comrades speak marathi and no one has issues, nor have I.

I have issues if you guys try to prove your dominance in mumbai by treating marathi like it is the only language.

I have no issues with bills printed in both languages, but when I posted the above did not read correcty that both may be printed.

Also my sincere apologies:) if my statement may have caused the above reaction from others as well.

Your only gripe can be if they don't come in English as well

True!!

also no one hates anothers religion, community etc, plz do not take the discussion to the other end. Stay to the thread, btw I have received my bill almost double 2k.

mine came less this month......but those morons sends abill saying your units less than last year without quoting how much i paid for it......those idiots have increased units price i m sure...even with those extended units my those bill may b less than wht will i pay now

Aing- what is going on? :S

A year or so after the acquisition of BSES, that would be some years back, Reliance Energy had allocated a small portion of the bill for a form to apply for choice of language and other personal and billing details/options.
I personally recollect filling it up for the Sardarjis whose garage i frequented and worked at as a hobby.
It did have several other regional languages apart from Hindi, Marathi, English iirc.
And if not selected, it was going to be Marathi by default iirc.
(But obvious to set the local language as default- it is also the official language of the state government).

I told my dad about the same and we opted for English and even the minor corrections in the bill/address got done along with it. :)
Though the rates and bills are rising dangerously, the administrative work like changing address, getting deposit shifted, correcting spelling errors, etc, does get done pretty fast and w/o bribes now compared to BSES days.

Our bill for April 2009 arrived sometime in the first week of May 2009 and it's in English. :|
