Hi Guys,

I need some feedback about Bangalore because I am given option to work there :)

I read this article ... Bangalore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So weather seems to be cool which is good :ohyeah:

Here are points on which I am looking for personal feedback who have been to Bangalore (and if Mumbai too then too good :cool2:)

1. How is life there specially at night and weekends?

2. Is north indian food available easily?

3. How much is the rent for fully/semi furnished 1/2 BHK flats? (I know may depends on area but I am not asking about posh areas ;))

4. How good is electronics and/or computer parts availability? (specially compared to lamington road :P)

Let me know your point of views :D

Thanks in Advance ... Regards

1. Nightlife is dead...everything closes after 11.30 ....stupid Govt....There are many placed to hang around in weekend but you will run out of them very soon!! 2-3 Months max if you like to try out new places

2..Yup ..not much of an issue....

3.Could range upto 10k or more if you try some posh area like Indranagar

4.Dunno abt LRoad but SP Road is pretty good in terms of availability and price

Additional Point :Weather is Awesome...traffic sucks....auto sucks...bus service is good....no IMAX..chicks suck

Night life and places to visit are not a big deal :) ... I would come to Bangalore so that I don't get free time :P

For IMAX I can go to my hometown itself and for chicks ... let's try luck in office :P

Can u suggest any good and cheap area to stay nearby Whitefield ??

Expensive.

Plz tell me what's Expensive? :S

1.Nightlife is totally OFF coz of the govt rules...

2.Ya u can find it but not very easily...

3.You can get a semi furnished flat nearby Whitefield for 10-12k...

4.According to my experience almost everything is available at S.P.Road...

transport's expensive. rickshaws don't go by the meter.

learn some words from the local language, will help.

As compared to bombay, rest of India sucks so Bangalore is no exception :P

2. Is north indian food available easily?
In some areas yes. Now many joints are coming up as my friends there tell.

3. How much is the rent for fully/semi furnished 1/2 BHK flats? (I know may depends on area but I am not asking about posh areas ;))
No idea as I havent lived there for long period. But Coming from Bombay you wont find much difference.

4. How good is electronics and/or computer parts availability? (specially compared to lamington road :P)
Decent. Compared to Lammy you should get 95% of the parts at more or less same base prices (taxes may differ)

Of all the things you will miss the chicks the most. Another thing. Get a bike as soon as possible. Local autos are thugs :@

Delhi stays open till 3AM, how long is it in mumbai, 12pm -1am max isn't it ?

Cost of drinks is also cheaper in Delhi I hear.

Now as to whether the 'quality' of nightlife is better in mumbai than Delhi, i leave for others to say :)

^^^ Ohh really... Are we talking about the same Delhi :P

I am yet to see a place in Delhi which stays open beyond 12 PM apart from the pubs.

Mumbai rocks without exception...

Drinks may be cheaper but that is not the complete night life. Is it???

Been in Delhi for stays like a week/two weeks and lived in Mumbai for much longer.

Mumbai never sleeps mate...

No offenses mate but I find Mumbai way cooler than Delhi and its like a battle.

Mumbaikar loves mumbai and hates delhi and Vice Versa. Yet to come across some one who likes both

Edit: I could have been on the other side of this love hate game if my employer had not have

left me with no option but to stay in Mumbai. Delhi was my first preference back then.

True but only if u visit Childrens Park and Monuments like India Gate etc. Most of us get out of our houses after 10:30 pm to go partying. We wouldnt be doing this if all the places close by 12pm. Hell even the Thekas in Delhi are open till 2-3 in night and so are the local Paratha wallas etc. Most of the Places in Gurgoan are open till 2pm.Making a blanket statement based on your short visits is not the sensible thing to do. Its even more immature to say that xyz city rocks. Its a very subjective thing and ppl are quite touchy about it like i am for delhi :P

You folks are complaining for city sleeping at 12AM or what ever .I am in a city where it sleeps at 5PM what do you say for that :|

Bangalore is my home town well i have complains about it but i love the place.I rejected may job offers because i had to leave Bangalore hell no way i can stay in any other city other than Bangalore.

North indian Food isnt that great here in Bangalore. The only good places i knw are samarkhand and Gurudwara and Treat in Indiranagar etc. True Story.

Autos are freaking expensive and you need a bike to travel. I get screwed since i have a car and petrol prices are way over the roof here. Buses are frequent though.

Again most of the people party at their houses since places close by 11:30 pm. So incase u can make a good friend circle here its gold here too.

Koramangala is quite expensive with 2bhk costing around 10-15K . Best is Diamond District but a 2bhk there is 18K.

Indiranagar is Tad bit cheaper cuz its not that commercial.

TRaffic is a b**ch here so that screws up your weekends if u dont plan it well. THere are plenty of places outside Bangalore than u can drive to like Nandi Hills.

Bangalore is good, although definitely not the best. I would like to mention few points..

1. Transportation :- Sucks big time. The safest way to travel in Bangalore is by BMTC bus. Period. You've plenty of buses to most of the places. i wouldn't recommend to jump on to a two wheeler right of . Get a Volvo(Vajra) bus pass which costs 1350 per month & you don't have to open your purse in the bus again . BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL about your purse & mobile.(especially in bus) People are expert here in getting those stuffs without your awareness.

2.Accomodation:- There are plenty of rooms available, cost of which is similar to other metros.

3.Food:- Again , Bangalore rocks for food ,imo. You'll get lot of hotels which offer variety of types. It's not great but good.

4.Weekend:- I prefer to stay at my home , but there are lots of 3d theatres & stuff like that.

Thanks a lot for advice on transport :D ... I guess I'll get Cab most of the time for going to office by company itself, so I'll have to think about personal transport if I want to go to mall or something like that

I was planning to buy bike in Mumbai itself but have postponed it because of unexpected bangalore thing :(

One more important thing I forgot to ask :ashamed: ... What are the good high download speed ISP options in Bangalore? I use MTNL here in Mumbai.

Huh are you kidding me !!

Apart from pubs is exactly what i mean, because that means clubs, now you've admitted booze was cheaper what more you want for a good night life. Good music is the only ingredient left and easy to provide. EVERYTHING ELSE falls in place once the basic ingredients are in place.

So i'm kinda curious what else for you constititutes the 'complete night life'.

Realise that i say this with some bitterness because 12 yrs and before, places stayed open in Banglore till the customers left, bangalore was #1 in the country for it. Then we grew, and the cops could not keep up with the increased crime and nobody wants to increase taxes so we kinda gave up after that. So the present generation missed out on what ALL the one's before took for granted :(

As a former New Yorker, i'm quite attuned to that. We used to go out at 11pm and return by 3, that was a night out.

If you mean in terms of ppl, of course, who will disagree, on average, better than in my city that's for sure. Tho i'd add that ppl brought up here (as opposed to transplanted) will give you guys a good run for the money :)

I stayed in Bangalore for a few weeks this May-June. Coming from Delhi, I did not enjoy it much.
Few things:

*Make sure to use Google Maps to track the route while taking an Auto. In fact, GMaps was a huge lifesaver for me.
*Guzzlers Inn is a nice place to relax and have a drink, especially in the afternoon. Quiet, cool and dark.
*I did not notice much difference in weather between Bangalore and Delhi, maybe it was the time of the year. Hot and muggy most of the day.
*Not many chicks. :(
*Food was easy to find and cheap. There were a lot of place where you stand and eat and get veg. South Indian food. So I usually had some idli-sambhar for a late breakfast.

I was there in Bangalore for 2 years and in Whitefield too...right now am relocated to Mumbai...and it's my opinion that Bangalore was better than Mumbai...weather is awesome...for transportation...you will get A/C volvo buses...their frequency is quite high...like once in 5 mins...there are not many places to visit...every thing closes after 11PM..you can get 1 BHK unfurnished flat in Whitefield for 6-7k...north indian food is hard to find...but I got accustomed to south indian food...so it was not a problem for me...infact I miss south indian food in Mumbai :(
