I have an ASUS A8NE mobo running AMD 3200+, 512*2 DDR 333 MHz RAM, 7600GS PCIE and 2 SATA HDDs

Things were running fine since the last 2 yrs (I use the PC for movies/occasional gaming and as a DL rig). About a month back I reinstalled XP. Yesterday my PC froze while i was playing one of the games. Now when i try to restart it, it does not boot. It does not even give any beeps. I tried removing and reinserting all cards, RAM and HDD connectors, but still no boot or beep. I even tried removing both RAM sticks and listen to the beeps, but no beeps for RAM too!

What else can i check and how?

I have a 400W SMPS (forgot the brand name) - fans are working fine so I dont reckon that it may be that problem will it?

I assume your cabby has a buzzer? :P Many new cabinets do not come with one.

Remove the mobo from the cabby, keep it on some cardboard or paper. Reset the cmos thru the jumper. Remove ram and gfx card, just keep the cpu and try booting. Are there any leds on the mobo? If so, do they light up? Does the cpu fan spin?

Yes - the led on the mobo light up. All the fans (cpu + cabinet) do spin without any glitch. Even the active cooling fan on my PCIe card spin up without any issues. I've already tried resetting the CMOS through the jumper settings but to no avail.

I am not even getting the boot sequence screen !!! So cannot boot using the XP CD. The monitor blinks as if in standby mode. I have already checked the monitor and its working fine.

Well, you'll have to try and isolate each component. I've had this problem a number of times. Once it was a bad gfx card, once due to ram. One time a capacitor on the mobo had blown. A couple of times I had even forgotten to connect the vga cable to the monitor and was wondering why I couldn't see any display :ashamed:

Checked everything - nothing's burnt on first looks. Most of the components are new. Also, i run this rig as a DL rig at times in the night. The temps should not cause any concern.

does it post sometimes or it never does?...try after some hours...isolate the parts and keep only necessary....try with only board cpu n 1 ram n gpu. with no hdd...

try with different psu n gpu.

Tried most of the stuff now - without RAM, with RAM single strip, without HDD, with single HDD, (not tried without VGA card for obvious reasons), but the strange thing about no beeps and no POST still exists.

Maybe monitor not working? Try connecting the monitor to another CPU and see if it boots. Since, you said above that fans and mobo light is coming on.

^^if the monitor wasnt displaying then atleast he should see the hdd activity light and also the system should boot into windows..n he could hear the xp welcome tune.

The monitor may not be an issue - coz even if it is not working, it would POST and light up the keyboard after some time - right now the kb lights blink once when i switch the PC on and after that they are dead. Also, when i remove the video cable from the card, the monitor does show up the 'Check signal' sign.

get a spare ram from someone which works and try booting using that ram.
alternatively, take ur ram and CPU to someone (maybe a dealer) who has compatible mobo and check if they work there.
if ur mobo has a onboard GFX, then remove ur video card and try using onboard VGA.

Unfortunately am not in a situation to do all that (lack of time). No, the board does not have onboard VGA.
